That storm really changed how homes are constructed, it's amazing it's been this long. I remember watching it live on tv as it blew in overnight on the Weather channel. I've always been amazed by storms, I find them absolutely fascinating. I feel like I'm getting old now, I remember watching this stuff as it happened and it's been over 20 years.

We had a guy that put a grinding stone on a 9" grinder. Well the stone isn't rated nowhere near the RPM's that the 9" grinder runs. Well of course it exploded on him, about cut off the family jewels. They had the crane the guy out of the dry dock. Speaking of workplace safety, this guy is on top of it!

I walked into a cool deal at HD tonight. I ended up getting a Johnson plumb bob for just over $1, some Johnson flagging tape for $0.54 a piece and a Johnson Contour gauge for $1.50.

A special week for a 105 year old war hero Great article honoring a true hero of our country, Laura Mallory, who was 1 of 2 or 3 African American women to work at Norfolk Navy Yard during WWII. Laura at the time was a welder and due to her small size (just like today) would work in all the tight holes and cavities of a ship. It's not a lot of fun but it has to be done and at the end of the day you gain a lot of pride in doing the job.

Really nice, I would say it's much better then one of those aluminum jobs any day. I need to get one of those auger kits to tie it down in case we get a hurricane or tropical storm this year. BTW don't mind my fence in the backyard, going to be replacing it here soon. Last owner of my house used that darn prefab fencing and painted it, falling apart all over the place. Going to put up a real fence board by board in about a month.

Thank goodness it wasn't worse, glad to hear that. I used to work in the printing industry and some your hands getting caught in a roller is no joke.

Very interesting, I really enjoyed watching that. Amazing how much of what I do fabricating steel follows a lot of the same principles when it comes to laying everything out. My X's mark what side of the line to cut rather then where to place the piece though.

Personal injuries? My worst personal injury was probably when I had a pallet with probably 1000lbs of rock on it fall on my foot. It was my fault and due to being in a rush. Worst that I have been around to see? Had a guy fall off a 4 or 5 story roof and onto a pipe and another guy sandwiched between two conex boxes. The first guy, they are not sure if it was an accident or suicide it was never determined. The second was during a storm when a crane was pushed by heavy winds slamming two of the conex boxes together. Luckiest person I know fell into a dry dock that's at least 5 stories deep. The only reason she is still alive is because she hit temporary service lines on the way down and landed on a pile of hoses. Truly a gift from God that she is still here to tell the story. By the way, where I work is extraordinarily safe. Working in a shipyard is a lot like fishing on the Bering Sea, you can do everything possible to be safe and still not prevent death and injuries.

If they offered a service where you could stream Fox News and CNN I'd be all over cutting the cable. I'm a news junkie though, really enjoy watching their programming.

Craftsman scroll saw, just like the band saw, I think this is going to get a lot of use for some of the work I want to do. Bench Vice, this is more along the side of the vices I use at work, I'm going to be a little more comfortable using it I think. It seems to be well constructed and is a very heavy piece. I've never been a big fan of these boxes at all. I figure I can find a use for it though, it'll suit well as a maybe somewhere to store some of my power tools and accessories or something. We'll see, havn't decided exactly what I am going to use it for yet. I am a big fan of Americana and I keep a lot of novelty items around, especially in my garage and office. This is actually a piggy bank and if you look just forward of the differential on the drive shaft the removable key is still there. I'm really surprised, just wish I had a set of side mirrors for it, haha. Hope you guys enjoyed looking at some of the stuff I was able to pick up here recently. Hope to be using them all soon and making some pretty cool woodworking projects before the fall and C

I posted this in the pub due to the items all not fitting into one sub-forum hope that's alright. I have been very busy over the past few weeks with a few big jobs. During that time I have acquired a few things that are new to me and deals that I just could not pass up. My garage is a wreck right now, so don't mind the mess in some of the photos. Lifetime shed, I believe it is an 8' x 12.5', I took it down and moved it, put it back up and power washed it all on Saturday. I was exhausted by Saturday night but this is going to serve me well. I really needed somewhere to relocate all of my lawn and garden equipment to. It was just aggravating constantly having to work around it all in my garage. Cub Cadet LXT 1040 with only 103 hours on the engine. It needs a new belt, the previous owner was trying to cut too tall of grass with it on a regular basis. Already put a new tune up on it, fresh oil, spark plug, battery, air filter etc. I don't have a huge yard by any means but it'll cut my grass cutting time down a ton. My backyard is kind of a pain to mow, especially with my health problems. Shop Smith vertical band saw, can't wait to start using this on a regular basis. As a novice woodworker who is just getting into it as a part time hobby, I think it will come in very handy.

There are also Federal Government auctions, you can get all kinds of stuff. It's actually a decent way to get heavy industrial equipment if you are in the market for it. If you are interested in something and want to bid, I would highly recommend taking advantage of seeing the item in person if at all possible. Some of the equipment that pops up can be old, hasn't been used in years and they don't realize it's missing pieces or it just worn hard.

I prefer HD as far as tools go, they have more brands that I prefer. I hate Lowe's wifi, it is so slow I avoid using it and just stay on my 4g. I highly doubt HD is going to stop hiring full time employees. There is no way they can really operate without full time employees.

Really neat idea, I've had past occasions where I wanted a specific tip but wish it was shorter or longer. I wonder how it feels fully extended vs fully retracted on a tight screw.

I love it when Dan Periscopes, feel like I have backstage passes to TIA. I've never seen the Milwaukee pick-up truck or the vendor for that matter. When I used to work at Home Depot I would see the DeWalt vendor a couple times a year but I'm sure they were in there more often then that. Anyone know if HD still has the thing with DeWalt where they bring the Sprint Cup Car to the store to show it off? Then again they are only the main sponsor for 6 races this year I believe.

Oh I can't stand those kind of questions, they rack my brain. Sometimes I even have to write it out to make sense of them.
