  1. Thanks for the heads up! Yeah that's the one, that cut quality just seems a bit off, interesting to see if a better blade helps. Yeah, I watch the Our Build stuff frequently, great channel and excellent reviews! @james10million I've watched that video 3-4 times!
  2. This is a tool supplier here in Australia who show the DLS714 (xsl02) in use on YouTube. The cut quality doesn't look great. A lot of tear out on the face. If you search for DLS714 it can be found near the top and its 1:56. Hmmm. Unsure if im allowed to post the link here?
  3. I didn't know this. Interesting. The makita blade I've seen on the saw and advertised with the saw are available off the shelf, the same as the 7 1/2" blades as they use on the small corded saw. Those dewalt blades I'm guessing will be a special order item here in Aus. Do they make them in 24 tooth only, do you know?
  4. Thanks for the replies! I would mostly be cutting teak/merbau/modwood decking/cladding, 100-200mm x 20mm Tasmanian oak and some 90x45mm framing or 70x22mm battens. Very rarely some hardwood stair treads (200x45mm as an average). Quality of cut would be pretty critical and dust extraction is definitely an important feature as I'd like to reduce clean up time. Some reviews would sway me towards the dewalt although it sounded like it was struggling with some of the hardwoods tested. Decisions decisions! The dw717 is a great saw, excellent in fact but lifting it in and out of the van isn't ideal and the dust extraction is very average.
  5. Guys! I am looking to invest in a cordless mitre saw! Lugging the old DW717 in and out of the van is getting annoying! I am invested in both Makita (9 batteries) and Dewalt (5 batteries) lineups so that narrows my choices down to both companies offerings! The extra rpm and cut capacity of the Makita are appealing but the XPS and overall quality (from what I've read and heard) of the Dewalt are great! What do you guys think? Here in Aus the Dewalt is $600-$700, the Makita is $1000! Thanks in advance!
  6. The website says 30 mins on high and 65 mins on low for a 5.0ah battery. It's very appealing as I'm constantly in and out of a van, up and down stairs, inside/outside (you get the drift) for a lot of the time. Having something that I don't have to plug in all the time would be great but then to be able to plug it in when I'm set up for an entire day is also excellent. Hmmm.
  7. I had seen this months ago and had been keeping an eye out for it, trying to be as cordless as possible really appeals to me. 6-8L capacity isn't great but it's not going to be filled from anything substantial (planer/thicknesser) but Im unsure if it's really worth it at that price point ($939). No mention of HEPA filter or of a plug in point for tools. Must be fairly powerful and being able to be corded and cordless is great. Thoughts? https://sydneytools.com.au/makita-dvc860lz-36v-18v-x-2-li-ion-cordless-wet-dry-vacuum-cleaner-dust-extractor-skin-only
  8. Tremendous, wouldn't go back to gas. Got rid of my paslode and I don't regret it. A few people i work with are going down the same route. I'm unsure if I'd bother holding off for the Milwaukee ones coming out. The Dewalt is excellent.
  9. Thanks everyone! Will definitely be trying to be more involved in the forum day to day. You guys are the best, keep up the good work!!
  10. Hello all! I've posted a couple of times on here but I thought I'd write a proper post and introduce myself! I'm Steve, moved to Melbourne, Australia from sunny Scotland just over a year ago as a permanent resident. I'm a 25 year old fully quailified carpenter and joiner. I currently work for a modular home company, we construct everything in our factory in Melbourne in 12-14 weeks then the buildings get transported all over Australia! We do extensions, residential homes, hospitals, schools - anything really. I currently work on the post-completion side of things, dealing with problems and mistakes really. I've been given a Ford Transit as a work vehicle and I'm on the road most days! I love the forum and all you guys' reviews/feedback etc! Keeping up to date with all the new cordless tools that come out through this forum and YouTube, is (in my opinion) crucial to what I do because of having to be mobile and working in remote locations from time -to-time! It's a bit of an obsession actually! I've added quite a bit to the Makita 18v stuff you see here ( 3 x 6.0ah, 3 x 5.0ah, 3 x 4.0 ah batteries, 2 x dual charger, brushless recip saw, 18v sander + everything you see in the pics!) Rambling a bit but I thought I'd say hello and thanks to everyone for making this forum so ggreat!!
  11. Nah no others. This was my first purchase into their lineup. I've got plenty of makita stuff and that performs great. A Workmate has some 18v festool stuff and it seems great. I should have a chance today to get it back to the store I bought it from.
  12. Thanks for your feedback. I bought it brand new from my local total tools here in Melbourne, Australia. I've contacted festool, just awaiting a reply. Do you reckon it's the battery or the tool that there is a problem with?
  13. I recently picked up the tsc55 plunge/track saw, 2x4.2ah batteries, 1x 5.2ah battery, 2x1400 guide rails, 800 guide rail and some clamps etc. I charged the batteries full. I used both 4.2ah's to make two cuts across a 45mm x 900mm solid core door, approx 3 cross cuts through some 250mm x 19mm engineered flooring and maybe two rips of the same material @2.2m long. I then left the tool in the box for approx 6/7 days then pulled it out the box and both 4.2's were dead almost. 1 bar of charge showing. I then used the 5.2 to cut approx 12 LM of 12mm ply, the saw struggled a lot and went from 3 bars to 1 bar cutting this material. Any suggestions as to what could be up? I watched a few videos that suggested the saw would last a lot longer than this.
  14. https://sydneytools.com.au/makita-dls714z-36v-18v-x-2-li-ion-cordless-brushless-190mm-7-1-2-slide-compound-mitre-saw-skin-only It's out! Earlier than expected!
  15. Been told by a tool dealer in Melbourne CBD, Australia that it will be around Christmas time for this tool! Fingers crossed it's true!
  16. Good video, interesting! I've subscribed to your YouTube channel for a few months now and really enjoy your reviews! It's a great idea having the hex drive and the square drive for socket bits on the one tool, very innovative! Would you use this over a Makita Impact driver? Where in Australia are you based?
  17. I have looked at and considered the cordless laminate trimmer/router that ryobi offer but there aren't very many reviews/videos I can find online relating to it. I'm wondering if anyone here has used it, can recommend it or advise against it and what it's pros + cons are? It's priced at $79 for the skin here in Melbourne, but I am on the Makita platform so I'd need batteries and a charger. How long do ryobi' high capacity batteries take to charge (2.5, 4.0+5.0)? Thanks
  18. I'm not sure how flexible your stockists are in America but here in oz they are pretty decent, they allowed me to swap tools into a kit for things I didn't want/need and pay the difference. Enquire about swapping the 4's for 5's and pay the difference? You're buying a great saw!
  19. Ryan, any release date for this? Thanks for the scoop!!
  20. Thanks kornomaniac! The sander and the vac will hopefully be next then see what they're offering after that. I considered the brushless SDS but I have no use for it at work just now and one of the other fella's has it, so use his when required! One of the other British fella's at work has the 18v mitre saw and speaks very highly of it for finishing work/door jambs/light framing etc but he would, he paid $750 for his! Some of the other boys have said (not while the British fella was around haha) that they found it tore through material rather than cut through it, as if the RPM's weren't high enough, I haven't had a chance to try it myself though! Plus it's been on the market for ages, I'd imagine they must be working on a brushless or 2 x 18v model at this moment in time? I currently have the DW717-XE and it's a beast but I'd love to be a cordless carpenter (as much as possible), I reckon Makita have the lineup which would allow me to come close to being that!
  21. Thanks for the feedback everyone! The planer goes great, saves the hassle of carrying around a lead when you have to remove a fair load of material. I work for a modular home company here and we get moved around the factory from module to module quite frequently so having the majority of my tools cordless makes a huge difference! The amount of other workers I see having to unplug tools and plug in new ones, then someone's unplugged their extension lead and they have to chase up where's it's gone to, or even on-site when sometimes there's no power at the start of the job it's very handy. Even avoiding the hassle of having your tools constantly tested and tagged. A decent cordless mitre saw would be great!
  22. This is my first post on the forum, thought I'd join in and share my collection. I moved from Scotland to Melbourne, Australia 6 months ago, bought a 6 piece kit when I first arrived and have been adding skins and batteries since then. Looking to add the dvc350 vacuum and the cordless sander soon then see what else makita have to offer. Possibly looking to buy the Dewalt 18v 16 gauge nailer and 18v mitre saw unless makita bring out an 18v 16 gauge nailer and a 36v (18vx2) mitre saw because I've heard from a couple of people the 18v makita saw isn't all that great (tears through material) although this may not be true!
