  1. oops, scratch that last thought, this one doesnt have blade storage, the fastback 2 does... still a good deal, though
  2. the new fastbacks have incorporated blade storage, but i think the ones that are coming out later this year can hold up to 5 blades versus the current 1(or 2?). i'm sure that's why they're moving these out. i've got more knives than i know what to do with, but i have wanted these for a while. at this price for 2 it's a pretty good deal and might pick it up... assuming they're even on sale around me.
  3. love it! i get the joke, but you know it's really true. my first power tool set was a black & decker that i now know is clearly behind the pack in capability, but the fact is that it got everything done that i ever needed of it. in fact i still use the 18v circular saw and it serves me just fine because i'm only making a handful of cuts at any given time. the majority of people just don't need big name capability like dewalt or milwaukee offer.
  4. i'd have to agree with your thoughts on the 12v line. doesnt seem like they are going for the smaller size as much as they just want a product to sell to a different market segment. it's not a bad idea, though. i'm not a pro and i definitely grab my m12 line more than my m18 since they can do most of what i need without the extra bulk. the fact that they are physically so much smaller is a nice side benefit, but it's really the weight difference that makes it so much easier to handle the tool that makes me use the m12s more.
  5. yes, the terminal for the customers at my closest store is setup at the pro desk. we have a couple of freestanding stations that are clearly meant for the employees, but another one setup that faces out for the customers. i used it for the first time yesterday and didn't find any deals at my store, but better luck to you.
  6. that's a fantastic setup for the space! nice thinking taking the chest apart. i have to ask though... is that a microsoft zune on your wall?!
  7. how could you?! years and years ago when i started watching hgtv or diy, his shows always grabbed my attention because he genuinely seemed to be pissed off when builders/contractors/tradesman didn't do their jobs properly. it opened my eyes to the fact that not everyone with a tool in their hand really knows what they're doing, and often times you really get what you pay for. yeah, he was a little extreme. and now i understand that although the jobs weren't done correctly, that doesn't mean that there was any malicious intent by the guys that did the work. some guys just don't know everything they need to, and hell lots of owners tell these guys to cut corners if it saves money. i was always entertained by him, though. i might check out the show if i can find it.
  8. i've got the standard milwaukee attachments that came with it. admittedly i need to toss out the blades as they are pretty dull now, but even new i found it tough to control for precision cuts. of course at that time it was a completely new tool to me, too, so maybe that had something to do with it. those l-boxx's are awesome. definitely my favorite side feature of bosch. it doesnt affect the performance of the tool, but sure does make the ownership experience nicer.
  9. this is baffling. maybe they'll bring it back every year as a limited time offering, like the McRib at mcdonalds! the milwaukee McToolchest! i crack myself up...

    OCD Heaven

i'm of the same thinking. when milwaukee started putting out all their various hand tools i got really excited and planned to buy a lot of it, but once i got my hands on them, they really didnt feel better than many of the other brands. a lot of them, like the pliers and screwdrivers, just seem way too expensive for what they are. sure they're incorporating a lot of functions into one tool (innovative?), but how many guys really need a wire stripper on every tool in their box? the one cool tool i have is the dewalt hacksaw that can be configured 4 or 5 ways, and even uses recip blades, otherwise these big name power tool guys haven't really impressed me with the standard hand tools. i guess they can't all be winners. it's obvious they're just trying to capitalize on junkies like many of us are... brand snobs! can't fault them for that, it's good business. and hell, the more of that stuff they sell the more money they make to innovate their power tools. i'm on board with that. mike, the setup looks great. sometimes i wish i had ocd so my collection could be better protected and get shown off like yours. if i took a picture of my stuff all you would see is bags! and one messy toolbench...
  11. the smaller overall feel is why i love my m12 tools. i don't even use the XC battery just because at that point is really does start to feel like a smaller 18v, although it is nice the the drills can stand with those batteries. i absolutely love my m12 line. i have a number of different m18's as well, but i only use them for bigger jobs (i'm just a diy guy). i have the 2426 multitool. the various speed settings are nice, but i will say that it doesnt really feel all that powerful. could be that some of my attachments have worn down. i often feel like i can't control it too well, either. i've never tried the bosch lineup so i cant give you a comparison. if the tool you really want is the multitool, based on my experience with the tool, i would definitely try to get my hands on the bosch and feel it out because this could be the one m12 tool that i'm not completely gaga over. the rest of the lineup? LOVE IT. especially the drill/driver, impact, and jigsaw.
  12. yeah, i checked my store today and there was absolutely nothing worth buying that was marked down. it's crazy how much pricing can vary from place to place. i tried my best to work through the price check tool at the contractor desk, but the whole time i felt like i was being watched and doing something wrong! regardless, only 300ish items showed up on clearance, which seems hard to believe for that size store. wouldve thought there would be much more. i'll keep working at it and figure it out.
  13. WOW. sick indeed. the cost of the flight up there might make it a wash though... i'll keep hunting down here.
  14. just got back from hd... they don't have any in stock anymore, even at the raised price. there was a red stanley box, though. i did a doubletake when i saw that. almost $1200... for a stanley! it sounded hollow and felt pretty cheap. really made me appreciate the milwaukee... even though i dont have it.
  15. checked my hd today and there were none left, although i doubt they were that cheap when the last one sold. we never have crazy deals like this, just too many people in my area. i did see a set at costco... 3 different boxes and the cart for $299. you grabbed a great deal.
  16. WTF?! is that an older generation jigsaw, or maybe uk only? that thing looks awesome! is it easy to use? i haven't seen another one shaped that way.
  17. i figured as much on the whites... my brother seemed to think they could be his go-to tools. i believe he just trusted that every makita would be badass without actually looking at the specs or reviews... not so much.
  18. not bad, the usa website has this listed as online only, and for $299. not sure what the exchange rate is between here and canada (i'm assuming thats where your store is based on your profile), but if it is that price in the states it's a pretty good deal.
  19. got mine in november of 2014, so that was the holiday season I was referring to. yeah, didn't really see too many good deals during father's day, although there really is no reason to have them since they know lots of wives/kids will be getting their dads some tools.
  20. my oldest 1.5's have been going strong for almost 3 years now. i don't work in the trades so it doesn't see the type of heavy use that a lot of you guys might have, but the run time is still incredible. i still use those as opposed to the XC for the smaller size and weight and am rarely disappointed. the m18 is always there for the bigger jobs.
  21. dude, can you post a close up picture of the bit kit? i havent seen that before, does it come in the box, or did you put that together yourself?
  22. wow, that is quite the collection! did you buy one of those monster 18-tool kits i see on amazon or just buy things as you needed? i notice the "white" makitas on the side... are you satisfied with their performance? i ask because my brother bought some of those and was actually disappointed.
  23. you're absolutely right, it is both the lower capacities of 1.5ah and 3.0ah. i was hoping they had packaged the 4.0, but no such luck. can't really complain for all that i got for the price, though. funny thing, at the time i bought it the set was listed on the web at $99, but the shelf price was $129, so i asked a manager to price match and instead of just making sure it rang up at $99, he instructed the cashier to give me $30 off. so of course the kit actually rang up at $99 since they suck at updating their signage, and the cashier still gave me the $30 off as instructed! so i got an incredible deal on this thing at just $69!! probably should've said something, but i was just too excited to speak.
  24. yes, the kit included the extra xc 3.0, so it was a great deal for 3 batteries and 2 tools, and of course who doesnt like an extra tool bag. the charger situation is getting ridiculous, though. i think i have 4, maybe 5 now??? it's crazy that most of the time the full kits are cheaper or barely more expensive than just the bare tool.
  25. i would soooooo watch that. i'm an extreme tool shopper for sure. you can find some real gems if you take the time to dig!
