    LED Light on DHP459

yup, completely unavoidable due to the placement of the light. my milwaukees have the same problem, as do most of the drills that added this feature early on. ridgid's solution is ingenious, three lights on the chuck that do a great job of lighting, especially when the drill is spinning. functional and looks slick. i would agree that durability might be a concern with that setup, though. how strong can the chuck be if you designed it with holes for LED's?
  2. $1200 for the dewalt? i watched a review of a 40" and if that's the one you're referring to the pricing is absurd. so even after milwaukee basically showed everybody up by including 2 power strips, self closing drawings, a peg board, a workshelf, and i don't know what else into a box that costs less than $800, these guys still think they can charge 50% more for an inferior product?? i don't think i've heard a negative comment about the milwaukee box other than you need 2 different keys for the locks on each piece. i'm a huge red fan, but money is money and i'm never gonna buy an inferior product just because it's the brand i happen to like, especially if it costs more than the better product. seems like there's a lot of arrogance at dewalt HQ which keeps leading to silly decisions like this and the lack of innovation in their products. i would hope even the most loyal yellow guys would eventually open their eyes and ears and see they're often not getting their money's worth.
  3. wow, had no idea these were as expensive as they are. 649?? bare tool is 349, so 2 m28 batteries and charger would run 300?? yeah, case included too, but those cost almost nothing. yikes, is the m28 line actually that much more capable than the m18, and are pros using them?
  4. i believe they were a "seasonal" item. i'm pretty sure i read or heard in one of the video reviews that these will definitely be back in store. i'm not sure why, but lots of stores that had remaining inventory actually clearanced them at $20-30 off list. they were actually relisted on the website a couple of weeks ago at an increased price... i think it went up to 800 for the set instead of the original 700. they wouldnt increase the price unless they misjudged the market for these things. my guess is that milwaukee underestimated just how good a box they made compared to the competition.
  5. i'd agree the makita is clearly ahead in this comparison. it's spinning 20% faster and neither is likely approaching their torque limit, so i wouldnt be surprised to see the makita win this type of comparison 19 out of 20 times. about the color, though! the lime green was driving me crazy, so i finally looked it up and apparently in japan they offer the same impact in 5 colors: their traditional blue, white, black, PINK!, and the lime green. they even had a gold 100th anniversary for a limited time. i love my red, but i have to admit if milwaukee did a special edition in black or gold i'd be having yet another uncomfortable conversation with my wife

    Broken drill?

i second this. the warranty program is awesome, the last tool i sent in was ready within a week, so no sense in trying to fool with it yourself unless you absolutely need it daily.
  7. saw the same kit for a similar price around me, too. almost bought it just for the value, but i put it back just because i have way too many pliers.
  8. dear lord, even in an area of the world without strict guidelines wouldn't someone just speak up and say, uhm, maybe this is that line that we shouldnt cross, it's kinda dangerous. crazy, just crazy!
  9. i remember seeing a video review of this a while back. it is definitely a slick little drill. for light duty applications these modular tools make a lot of sense. it is so much more convenient to just carry different heads instead of entire tools. i always see the b&d matrix drill on sale and clearance around me, but that one has quite a few more attachments. matrix feels flimsy, which is why i imagine it's always on sale, but i bet the milwaukee feels pretty solid.
  10. lookin good! i think about this project every other day when my wife nags me to buy a new bed. thanks for the update, and keep us posted!
  11. very nice! yeah, the kit itself was a special promo a while ago. one of the combinations of this promo actually recreates the contents of that kit, so it's like you got 2 freebies since you got the angle driver too. nothing wrong with that, though, the hardware guy shouldve known. 3 tools and 3 batteries for $129 is an awesome deal.
  12. right on. odd that the tool on the right always wins these quick comparisons.
  13. that side handle is absurd! i'm blown away at how much power these guys are putting into these drills with each new model.
  14. these are neat, short comparisons you're finding. results of this one are what i would've expected. they've got some other tool categories down, but overall i don't really understand all the love for dewalt, at least when it comes to drilling and driving cause they aint so good at it unless you're comparing to entry level offerings
  15. gold makita's?! did i miss a new product intro? impressive, but one screw a champion does not make. i wanna see him screw again, and again, and... wait, what were we talking about?!
  16. yeah, that's quite a few more tools and related than we see around here, too. looking at the prices it doesn't look like you missed out on any deals, except maybe the combination square for less than $2, assuming you have any need for it or dont already have one. smart move... play the long game and save up for the house. you'll never regret it. it's one of the most satisfying purchases you'll ever make.
  17. they're both solid sedans. i think the fusion is going to be a little firmer riding and more responsive than the impala. if you want a cushiony ride for your old people butts than i would lean towards the impala. it's also the roomier car if that matters. one thing i would certainly look at is if you're getting upgraded infotainment with navigation, the impala is going to be a much easier car to live with day-to-day. the system that ford is using today is not as simple as it should be given you need to use it while focusing on driving at the same time. both good choices from the domestic brands.
  18. that's actually pretty clever. it looks incredibly flimsy and poorly made, but still clever if you lack the space to store tools or need this level of portability. the fact that it seems to only be sold by Hammacher Schlemmer for $600 tells me something else about the product though....
  19. you can actually use periscope without twitter, you'll just need to provide your mobile #. i did that at the beginning of this month and haven't gotten any weird calls, so it doesn't appear as though they sold my # to anyone. i'm completely with you on avoiding most social media, i just joined periscope to support TIA. it never really dawned on me how much i love tools until i started watching some of their youtube reviews the last couple of years. i've been hooked ever since. nalu gave a quick explanation of how to join periscope under another post if you're interested: http://professional-power-tool-guide.com/power-tool-forum/index.php?/topic/7003-how-to-use-periscope/
  20. that looks fantastic! sounds like it's gonna look even better once you've finished. i'd like to see pics of each step of the staining process if you took them. i have this mental block that keeps me from doing any project that involves stain... probably made a mountain out of a molehill, but if you've got the time and interest this could be an awesome chance at a tutorial for the forum/DIY newbies.
  21. holy cow protoolnut! over 7000 hearts?! that's insane! congrats to the tia team on passing 1 million!
  22. interesting vids, although i didn't see anything amazing in the snap-on video that would justify their outrageous prices. built solid, but come on...
  23. all i can think about is the countless pictures you could add this caption to...
  24. i like the way you think! we should all keep some on hand for that very reason!

    Makita at my HD

yeah, they started clearing those out a couple weeks ago, or at least that's when i spotted the deal. just went today too and saw quite a few kits left on the shelf at the same price. given the number of kits around me, i'd wait for another round of markdowns before jumping on this one even though it is a decent price.
