Blue painters tape and double sided tape. Using them together is a third great thing. Put blue painters tape down the. The double sided tape on top of it. The surface won't get harmed from the double sided tape.

Hand planes. Oh man are these things useful. A small apron or block plane is great to chamfer or round over an edge. They also are great for panel glue ups where they don't exactly line up. Plane the top part away. Sanding will normally leave a divot where the plane won't.

Card scraper. Get one. Just do it.

I love the painters tape and double sided tape idea, soo simple and obvious but never thought of it!

I need to get myself some hand planes, I need to do a lot of research on them because I'm soo green on the subject. You, Chris, khariV and the Kendalls have me drooling over planes!

For a card scraper I use old gift/store credit cards.

Kobalt is going away? I kinda like their stuff. In principle I would have liked to see them flourish. Give Lowe’s a legit competitor to what HD has with Ryobi/Ridgid.

Sorry for the confusion, Kobalt is not going away just some Craftsman tools made by the same OEM as Kobalt's power tool line. I edited the main post to be more clear about this.

Great tips though I will add you would be better off investing in a new battery platform that repairing or buying new cells or packs for a Dewalt 14.4

I agree, depending on how many tools in that lineup they have. A new battery is probably a little over half the cost of a proper Lithium powered tool. Probably 25% more could get a lithium reconditioned tool.

Yeah sorry about the metric, I was in a hurry and couldn't provide both units.

A good thing about Metabo is they always state after weight "(incl battery)". Its not perfect because they don't say what battery exactly; could be compact 2ah, 5.2ah, 7ah LiHD, who knows. I usually assume it's the battery shown in the photo.

Us Americans need to learn the metric system anyway, especially if you're into German tools like I am!

I wish there was a norm; this is how we measure torque, this is weight. Weight listed as bare tools, all batteries have a weight listed.

I didn't see anything about Kobalt or Ego going away. Did I miss something?

Chervon is the OEM of Kobalt and EGO, I was using these brands to show value of little-respected Craftsman power tools which are going away. This list is only about Sears and their inventory. Sorry for the confusion.

Rikon is the OEM of Craftsman band saws, another gem that seems overlooked.

  6. This isn't really for big tools such as planers, joiners, table saws, etc.

This thread is about little hand tools, accessories, layout tools. Stuff that makes those big tools easier to use, make your projects easy to finish and/or improve results. I'd prefer to skip the traditional clamps because we all know how useful clamps are but could include specialty clamps, maybe dovetail clamps. Safety is also more than welcome, need to keep those digits!

Tips and tricks also welcome because, why not?!

BUT this is TiA, we don't need guidelines, no one is going to complain if you post something you thought classified for this thread!

  7. Also shows who the OEMs are and what they'll be carrying in stock. It's a long read, a LOT of stuff is going away. You may want to look out for some of these to be closed out or buy while you can.

Including some Craftsman power tools made by Chervon! Chervon OEMs Kobalt's new 24V line and EGO so if you like those brands you may want to consider some Craftsman power tools.

  8. It will be brushed.

I imagine you have one or two things going on. One, a bad battery. Those Ni-Cad batteries die while sitting on a shelf, not just draining power but loosing the ability to hold a full charge. You can generally rebuild those pretty cheap at one of the battery places (if you have one). Or buy one from Lowe's.

Two: Before you spend money, pull out the brushes and give them a look. If they're radius-ed (they start square but wear down concavely) badly, change those and if you can clean the armature as best as you can to get the carbon off.

  9. I think Milwaukee is inconsistent on the weighing process. I've never handled the m12 Fuel drill/driver but Milwaukee lists it as being heavier than the hammer version...which seems backwards.

I haven't held the gen 2 yet but if it's 1.27kg with battery, that is amazing. That's the same weight as the Makita, which was noticeably lighter and smaller than the gen 1 Fuel.

    BTW 1.27kg is 2.8lbs.

    Dude. I thought I had a problem.

ive got a number for a great shrink if you’re interested 😬

Seriously though, what you did separates the real men from the non TIA men.

I was proud of myself, I didn't redo everything when I noticed the space above the Tekton LOL

I got over lining the shanks perfectly a while ago, it's just too much work. OCD can be a b*tch but it has it's perks, I'm great at finding things I need.

  11. That sucks man, glad you're getting help as well.

That's one of my biggest fears, leaving tools on-site. I go through a checklist in my head of what I used and keep everything in a specific spot and I look for holes.

Really? I use wobble extensions all the time. I hate u-joints, though... but to be fair, one of these days I’m gonna order up some KoKen and Nepros universal joints and give them a try....

I hate (chrome) U-joints too...it's better if you can put a little extension on it so you lightly grip that to keep the U-joint from binding.

Wobbles are easy to use but they don't wobble enough to get clearance most of the time. Then it can be a paint to rethread if the wobble doesn't stay straight when you push it on, some stay in the straight position better than others.
