  1. OMG every isle? I've only seen them in my area in the power tool isles.
  2. They have those systems where I am in stores that are in bad areas which most likely have a lot of theft. The stores in suburbs and more well to do areas don't have them at all. It does get annoying but if you are an employee, you hear that non stop every day and don't even pay attention. In fact I have found that there are usualy less employees in that isle where there is the security as they probably don't want to listen to the noise 8 hours a day.
  3. Everything I have seen says on line only. Perhaps they have them in stores in different markets.
  4. Actually he comes across (to me) as one of thse people who are very smart but think they know way more than they really do. As though all of their assumptions are accurate because well they knew it was this way or that way at some given point, so everything gets compartmented as always being a certain way.
  5. I have the 2731 fuel circular saw as a bare tool. I'd like to get a bag to store it in and want to pick up the same size the kit comes with. Does anyone know what size or model bag comes with the kit? I am looking on line but it just says it comes with a contractor bag without mention of size.
  6. Looks like a great deal. Anyone know what charger comes with the set? (just M12, or the dual voltage one?) Also wonder about the sizing. Are these on the loose side? I fit into a 2xl UnderArmour hoodie, but would prefer 3xl. is sizing similar?
  7. For me the most important part of everything was spilled out all over his workbench. It is the liquid that enables the proper operation. Is it silicone, or some other low or high weight oil? Also, the cavitation is normally the formation of air bubbles because of the pressures. For all we know this is injected in a vacuum area and then the assembly is sealed, so there is zero air in there. There just isn't enough evidence to know if any of his theories have any truth in them at all.
  8. I did read your link, and although you may not be trying to be antagonistic, I really don't think you read my initial couple posts. I already explained before your link that the torque level and rpm could be set, so your link really didn't explain anything new. The original question from Jimbo was if you would be able to set the torque as a number as in foot pounds rather than a 1-10 number. I then said it would still most likely be a 1-10 number because the RPM could also be set independently. The real question now is what do each of the various combinations get me for torque, which is pretty much a very large possible combination of factors. (not only RPM and torque levels, but how long does the unit impact for before either shutting off, or being stopped by the user)
  9. This guy is a trip. For the first 5 minutes he just rambles and appears to talk out his rear. Like how he says milwaukee, ridgid, and ryobi are all the same thing simply because the parent company s the same. That's like saying a cobalt is the same as an escalade because gm produces both. (His statements on warranty issues are a bit off as well. All one needs to do is read the info) He also makes assumptions about the lifespan of the unit based on a guess and no real knowledge of the viscosity or type of fluid or for example how well the heatsink works. Everything he claimed is a guess based on what he has experienced with other companies, not off any real experience with this brand.
  10. We already know you can set torque levels. The question was if you could set the levels like 200 or 150 or whatever vs just a number from 1-10. As I mentioned already the numbers would be affected by rpm. (As shown in your link) wish I had a Skidmore tester to work up accurate numbers. They are local but I'm not paying $500 to rent one.
  11. I think it will still be a number value of 1-10 because the torque would also be affected by rpm. I think it would be cool o have couple permathreads fr each one key tool so that as people test out a combination they can report back with results. For example, if a 2000 rpmplus a torque value of 6 gives me 100 pounds then it can be noted and shared. If upping the rpm to 2250 and a value of 7 gives me 120 pounds then it could be noted as well. We can all share our results as a baseline.
  12. I have $200 store credit to use at HD and just bought the One Key combo kit there. I really want the One Key 1/2" compact impact but it is sold out on line and has been for at least the last couple weeks. It is the one and only impact they sell which is out of stock, so I'm guessing everyone else really wanted one too. Anyway, I sure hope they get more stock in soon. Just had to vent a little. I imagine that the one key impacts will be all hot sellers as you can customize your ratings for given power levels needed. For example I want to figure out how I can get setting one to give me a max of 80 foot pounds, setting 2 to give me 140, then 3 with some random number and 4 with max power. This will make tire rotation a breeze for sure!
  13. I have to agree. The stealth force is the cheapest at $200 and every tool on their list is either $30-$50 if new X5 or it is a generation old item they are trying to get rid of so they can come out with the new stuff. If they had more of a selection or offered more bare tools then they wouldn't need all these promotions as the tools would sell themselves. I just returned my Ridgid brushless combo kit because they didn't have the other tools I want to purchase. It wasn't because of performance though as the new brushless stuff, especially the impact driver is really nice. (the impact driver is amazing IMHO)
  14. Personally I would wait until it is absolutely needed and then borrow one first. You are looking at dropping hundreds on a tool that as an HVAC tech would rarely get used. In my facility, an HVAC tech has needed to use a bandsaw exactly ZERO times in 20 years. An electrician would need one if it was new construction, but even then conduit can be cut quickly unless it is like 1"+ pipe. Heck, I just use a jigsaw for cutting all my copper and conduit. Does the same job much cheaper and has far more uses.
  15. That is exactly what I did. I returned the standard kit and bought the new kit and got the saw. I returned my brushless Ridgid circular saw as well so the total cost was almost a wash. You could also opt to sell the saw separate and wind up with a one key kit for the same $350. If the saw new goes for $229, and you sell it for $150-$175, someone gets a deal and you get an upgraded kit. <edit> So I just looked at my receipt again. Because of the way the discounts are worked in the Home Depot register, if you take one part of the deal back you get a pro rated amount based on the discount value. In this case, the refund value for the saw is about $156 and the refund value for the One Key kit is $344 and change. So you could buy the kit with the saw and then just return the saw next week and have a One Key kit for less than $350, which is the price of their standard Fuel kit.
  16. Bought the new ONE-KEY kit from Home Depot and opted for the Fuel circular saw as my free tool. There is definitely a learning curve for setting things up. In fact it will likely take me several jobs/projects before I figure out if I want to increase speed or torque with the impact beyond what I've done already. The drill has a ton of customization available. Not only do you get the usual 3 modes for the hammer/drill/drive but 4 ONE-KEY modes that you can use to customize with both high and low speed. So if you have a certain size hole saw or self feed drill bit, you can customize a one key selection for that individual bit. The sad part is that a custom setting done on the tool from my phone and saved, does not get saved into the cloud where other info does, like photos and S/N. This means when I log in from my tablet, I need to save and name the profiles all over again.
  17. Looks nice, but why not an 18V version? Though I'm more concerned the guy is using a drain snake with no gloves. yuck.
  18. Sorry, why should someone need to buy the body for $80 plus a new head when companies like Milwaukee have theirs out at HD for $99. That is just plain foolish.
  19. Well they are giving away a $230 brushless circular saw, or a $180 brushles Sawzall. Though I do happen to believe the circular saw is at the top end of what it may be worth and the high torque impact may actually be underpriced. I'm sure they factored that in when they looked at their target markets.
  20. That jigsaw pictured above was probably just the floor model on sale. My local HD must have a half dozen on the shelf all at regular price. I posted this over in the Milwaukee area but I'll post it here as well; HD is now selling the One Key hammer drill/impact driver combo kit for $499. (2796-22) Doesn't seem like a great deal until you see their offer of a free tool with the purchase. You get to choose from either the Fuel circular saw, the Fuel Sawzall, or a 5.0xc battery. The offer runs 3/28 to 8/1. I'm hoping that when the sale goes live on the website that it may include more tools in the deal. So if you wanted you could probably buy the kit with the saw then sell the saw on Craigslist or eBay or here or something for say $175 and then your final cost would be $325 plus tax, making the One Key kit slightly cheaper than the standard 2897 kit. Or just part out a kit and make a few bucks or even get some new batteries at a good price. Also, in the kit description they claim that you just get a regular charger, but in all the photos they show the quick charger with the white lettering on top. I'll be buying the kit in the next few days and will see what it really has in it.
  21. It is possible, however the sticky tags in store only show one of three items. There is also signage on the end cap as the One Key now has an end cap display, and the signage shows only one of three free items. The deal says valid 3/28 through 8/1. I've been to three HD stores in the last two days and each one has a stock of the fuel sawzall, 5.0 battery, and fuel circular saw on the end cap.
  22. It is a decent premium. $150 difference between the regular version and one key. However if you don't have a set yet and are also in the market for a sawzall and or circular saw then it is an amazing deal as the total price you pay for the kit plus extra tool is less than what the standard kit plus tool would cost. (or if you bought a set of the regular ones this year from HD, just return them and pay the difference and get the upgraded features plus new tool. The promo is supposedly until August I think according to the stickers so I would probably look for other Milwaukee suppliers to offer something similar in the next few months.
  23. Stopped at Home Depot today. They have the Fuel One Key combo kit with drill and impact driver for $499. The deal is that you buy the kit and get a free tool valued up to $229. Your choice of the Fuel Sawzall, Fuel circular saw, or a 5.0 lithium battery. (wish an impact was on the list but apparently it is only one of three choices. Still, if you are looking to grab the kit you may be able to sell the bare tool and get the one key for the same price as the non one key, or even just keep the tool if you need it.
  24. May be a bit late, but Harbor Freight sockets are the gems in the store. I've never had an isssue with any socket or socket set I have puchased there. Heck, I just bought a 3/4" breaker bar there for like $22 when at Grainger they wanted $100+ for a similar bar. Been using their sockets and breaker bars for many years now.
  25. These things are great for transitioning between material and in homes where you have pipe running tight along basement joists or walls. You can't solder without risk of fire, and if you have water running out of the pipe, these are perfect. Would I build new construction with them? Nope, but I sure would use them for repair in accessible areas where use of a torch is not preferable.
