  1. After watching ex Beatle Paul ruin his own song again at the Olympic opening it is time Macca retired. After the Queens jubilee I thought any good friends he had would have saved our ears and his blushes by making sure he was kept away from a microphone.

  2. Bosch 10.8v Lithium Ion went bad, Hitachi 18v Lithium Ion 6 years old and still going strong.

In the past Dewalt were not bad, but not great either, but that was several years ago.

Makita of recent years, everyone I know has had to swap out batteries.

My new Metabo gear is great, but then again it should be as I have not had them long enough to be having problems, but will be keeping an eye on them and reporting honestly on how things go.

  3. I know quite a few trade guys who buy tools from D.I.Y stores over here in the U.K and just use them till they die then walk back in the store with the dead tool and get it swapped for a new one free of charge.

It may sound like a cheap trick and I don't condone this way of doing things but they swear by it.

  4. Just bought a pair of dewalt slide work boots with steel toecaps breathable design all the bells and whistles and yes you guessed it got home and while opening the box those familiar words are written on the box.Made in China.

Very comfortable boots but I honestly thought they would have been made in the U.S or over here in the U.K did not expect them made in China that's for sure.

  5. Do we really want a society where we are so dependant on safety devices that soon brick walls and lampposts will be required to have air bags to prevent our brainwashed, common senseless, corporate controlled, vote now by phone for the next star, please step away from the squirrel Sir it may contain nuts, can't decide for ourselves bodies from bumping into them??????

LOL I know not all British humour goes down well in the U.S but come on guys this is a great innovation in safety, but it MUST be backed up by training folks how to use these things, and accepting that there will be some arsehole who slits his wrist with a utility knife while opening the box with his nice safe saw in.

But on a grim note with our hearts going out to the victims and families of this terrible incident.

When we live in a world where some loon can buy a gun and walk into a cinema and open up on the audience with an assault rifle, smoke grenades and a pistol. I think there are much more pressing matters of safety that all our governments should be working on.

  6. Just as an ongoing report on this tool.

Still going strong and has had some very very hard work to do.This is fast becoming close to my number one fave tool.

I hope to be doing some side by side comparisons against other 10.8v/12v max impact drivers but one thing I will say is it is better than the Bosch one I had before.

Still a bit miffed at the lack of battery life indicator as this is something I have got used to on other tools.

But as far as working hard no problem whatsoever.

  7. I had some Panasonic tools at one time before my van was broken into and they were stolen and they were fantastic.

Not the most powerful but very very good quality and stood up to everything our wonderful British weather could throw.

I have friends with Festool and i think it is the cost that has them kept in nice clean places LOL.

i have seen guys on site with the track saw and doing some serious cutting and they were very very happy with them.

Protool is a make that I have very little experience with, but again have had nobody telling me anything negative which must be a good thing.

I have had a very good experience with my Metabo tools but U.S readers may find them harder to get, more expensive, and if Dan and Eric's experience is anything to go by the tools they have been testing do not have some of the qualities and features that are on the tools when sold on the European market.

Dewalt for me seem to be the tool manufacturer who seem to come top as far as products being available both sides of the pond, ease of use, and customer service.

Although my Son loves Milwaukee, which again have been great tools but customer service over here has a bad reputation.

You can spend megga bucks and go down the Hilti route, but then again a lot of guys had them on fleet and when the trades went quiet they were left having to find big bucks every month for tools that were sat idol so there are many things to consider.

I was a fan of Dewalt a few years ago as I have said, but the change over to the new range has been clumsy and expensive to follow as you would have needed to constantly spend on new tools to keep up,and I had quality issues that dogged me on site that I have not had with other tools.

it does seem however that Dewalt have been working hard to develop and improve, and i am sure we will hear from readers how this latest kit performs long term. :)

  8. As Milwaukee are now boasting 10 times motor life on the new Brush-less fuel range, does that now mean they will go from a 5 year warranty to a 50 year warranty???? LOL :)

A brushed motor can be re brushed in your lunch time and cost buttons. If your Brush-less motor goes down you will need a new motor and it's going to cost you a pretty penny.

Be honest folks it isn't ten times motor life it's ten times till your brushed needs a few quid a set of brushes and a bit of a service.

I am sure the fuel is a fantastic drill but be honest about it folks I have a brushed drill that is 25 years old and still has the same brushes how long do you want a bloomin brushed drill to last?LOL

  9. If you are on a budget, or if you are a home owner who is thinking should I buy a cheap tool, then think about the reconditioned tool market.

You may find you can now afford a quality tool for the same price as a cheaper lower quality item.

Many have been rebuilt by the manufacturer or by a recognised repairer and carry a good warranty.

Remember to ask questions and keep an open mind and you could get yourself a very good deal. :)
