Many many of the tools you guys see branded as Dewalt in the U.S are exactly the same as the Stanley branded tools over here.
But there are times when we get say a Dewalt range of tough boxes on a trolley and also a Stanley tote box with wheels so they compete in the same market which although they are different in design they still compete for the same customer a lot which is strange.

We have fluke over here.
-
Glad you got sorted Pal.
I am not surprised that some guys are going all12v.
If the application is light enough then i would think it makes good sense.
-
Battery technology is moving so fast that it won't belong before cordless tools will make many corded tools redundant.
I use my stuff all day and these days my 41/2 inch grinder is cordless and so is my jigsaw and no longer even own the corded versions.

Very well written Pal,great honest review with all the information you need and none of the crap you don't.
sounds like a great tool and money well spent.

my experience is of Festool rather than Protool but they are very similar indeed.
Protool are o.k in a workshop environment but would never take one on a rough tough building site.

Hello BigYin,
First of all welcome to the forum.
I use my LTX every day and the lads on fleet with Hilti have all been amazed by my gear.
The feel is solid and like I said for a pro they are just amazing I am not so sure the D.I.Y user would get the use out of the tools they are for working all day every day.
As far as chuck wobble there is none at all not even the slightest bit of lateral movement,so even tiny drills for very accurate work are no problem at all.
The smoothness of them, the lack of vibration in your hand when you do a 12 hour day plus drive to site and back you wont get that twinge in your wrist where a badly balanced drill has had you tensing the muscle to compensate.
I think unless you need one of the more specialist tools Hilti make that Metabo don't then it is a no brainer and the Metabo is better in my opinion.
Just be careful with the impact driver I think it is too powerful for joiners/carpenters and the Max 12 pro is more than powerful enough for site work unless you are driving 3 inch and 4 inch 10's and 12's or above all day in which case the 18v impact will do that no problem at all.
I like to think I do not pamper to one manufacturer and don't conform to the view that one brand makes the best tool in every part of the range but up to now all the LTX that I have bought have out performed my workmates tools side by side on real world dusty tough busy site work.
My only niggle is they do not have a belt hook.
Best I have ever used by a country mile.

Must admit I am very pleased with this phone it is quite easy to use without having to read a booklet.
-
It could also be telling you there is a faulty battery
-
That does sound like lack of lubrication. Also it may be something moved out of place when the drill was re assembled.
-
Sorry to hear about what happened Pal.
I do hope everything gets sorted out very soon.
If I lived a little closer would offer to come over and help fix the place up.

It gets worse Pal not only do we have to do an exam on safety every 5 years and get charged a fee then apply and get the card for which you pay a fee , and do one on site the day you start. But as a plumber and Heating engineer we have to sit the same exams every 5 years and each part of the job is an element and each element has a fee you have to pay.It costs thousands of pounds. Then get Gas Safe registration for which there is a fee.And it is illegal to do any work without all of the above.

Tell you what, take a look at the power 8 workshop and look at the scroll saw function available in the U.S.A and tell me honestly that a
Dewalt DW743 250mm Combination Machine is more of a danger?
-
LOL classic.
You guys must admit the safety guys and girls have gone a bit too far.
If you saw the questions for our safety cards to go on site I guarantee you would laugh your sides sore. Some of the questions are so stupidly easy they insult anyone with the remotest trace of intelligence.
-
They have guards that are at least as good as on individual tools so I can not understand it.
Over here in the U.K they are safety mad it is nicknamed the nanny state because they treat us like children with incredible mind numbing safety protocols that I find insulting they suggest we all have little or no common sense.
So are they saying American users are more likely to hurt themselves using them than Europeans?
If so that is not only very insulting it is down right stupid.

What do the English football team and buying a bra for a woman with small boobs have in common? Ans All back and no cup.
-
h.t.c one X.
It is bigger than my old phone and free with my upgrade so thought I would give a 4 core phone, with a decent camera and H.D video so I could maybe learn to shoot a bit of video or take some decent quality photographs to go with reviews for the forum.

Historically air tools have never taken off in a massive way over here, that and our health and safety people would have kittens with all the hoses and compressors for them to worry about.( It is mad the lengths we have to go to to try and eliminate risk in the workplace).
Its bad enough trying to use our trade 110v tools on site because the supply they lay on is never big enough, running cables to where you are working is a nightmare, someone is always unplugging you somewhere along the way so they can plug in, and the lights dim when I use one of my big boys toys. LOL.
-
I am amazed that they are not available in the U.S.A they are a great tool and very very popular over here because you can do so much with them yet they take up so little room in your Van or truck.
I am used to tools being available your side of the pond but not here, but the other way round is new to me and even more incredible when you think it is Dewalt.
-
Not even the Dewalt or Makita?
-
Air power tools are rare outside a mechanics garage over here Pal.
Battery is king over here on power tools and corded if we have to.
-
I must admit it is not often you need a 12 inch slider, that's a hell of a lot of saw.
The 10 inch are great for most things, and also a flip over saw is a real space saver and they cope with most jobs too.
-
Have any of you guys heard of Halfords ?

Hi folks,
I know it sounds like I am in love with Metabo tools, but here we go with another bit of kit bought by me to replace another tool that was stolen when the thieves wiped out my van a few months ago.
The Metabo Max 12 impact driver is my secret weapon against the screw nothing bigger than your hand and wrist will reach,or up in the gods perched on one leg and even then on tip toe to get an M10 bolt that any other mortal would say sod that I may die trying.
Fact, it has now been used solid for a few months on real, dusty, windy, wet god forsaken job sites in British weather and has done exactly the same jobs as my workmates 18v impact drivers (Yes I am serious ) and obliterated the other more well known model which died the second week ( it was a very short service and few words I could repeat were spoken).
This is a very very very good tool and later this year will be available not only with the 2 1.5 amp batteries, but the Max 12 pro now is becoming available with 3ah and soon 4ah batteries which just leaves the competition behind by a country mile.
They will also be producing a recip saw for 12 and 18v so imagine lads 4ah of power in the big and the little stuff. How cool is that gonna be?
The down side?Well my model has no battery status indicator so I have the other battery small as it is,in my pouch or pocket if I stray too far from the charger.
The work light on the tool is nice and bright but sometimes it can cast a shadow or two but that is very rare and has never effected the job in hand but wanted to be honest about it.
And don't think this costs the earth either 140 quid gets you this tool with 2 of the1.5 batteries and a quality case.
Tool availability is however a major down side to Metabo ownership.Even this side of the pond I have spent a stupid amount of time to get the information on the new kit, and even then I had to use a translator application from the German site.
Metabo are fantastic toolmakers, but product promotion and sales are about as crap as it gets, because you have to go looking for them as Metabo's idea of a big promotion seems to be all based in Germany with a few token appearances at shows in other parts of the world.( that's how it looks )
It's as if they are the quiet guy of the tool world who never brags, never shouts, but you just know if it came down to it in a fight everyone else would end up with vital bits hung in a sling.
I just finally want to stress this tool was bought by me out of my own pocket and I do not work for any tool company.
I am just bluntly honest about any tool I review and concentrate on all the stuff you can't get out of reading what is on the box, down at the tool store, or on some dodgy description on a web site.
And remember folks Unlike some film stars, Builders do ALL our own stunts.

I must admit i would like to have a go for a few weeks on site with the new Dewalt range and see how they shape up.
the beauty of my job is it really sorts the men from the boys when it comes to tools because if they are not up to it they die a death in a day or two.
