khariV Posted December 10, 2016 Report Share Posted December 10, 2016 Ok so I know I'm going to be in the minority on this but this story is a prime example of what's wrong with our legal system. Going to prison for three YEARS for stealing $500 worth of anything is idiotic. By the time he gets out, he most certainly is going to be a hardened criminal and the person (actually the company) he stole from is no better off and no actual restitution has been made. Meanwhile, its cost the taxpayers almost $100,000 to keep this moron locked up. This is a lose / lose proposition all around. What we need is some sort of supervised work program. Make this SOB build houses for the needy for three years. His work and his wages go to help the community he harmed. He pays back his victims and the community. I obviously have no idea what drove this man to steal a couple of tools and pawn them, but I do know that there are very, very few people that can go straight again after a stint in prison.
