New battery technology is being produced. Sounds fairly close to being ready for the tool market. May replace Li-ion batteries like they replaced Ni-cad batteries. No really any downsides to the battery except it may not be compatible with li-ion tools.

Yeah, I remember reading this back in February in some university papers. Not sure it's ready for prime time yet but does sound pretty cool. Pretty amazing to still be revolutionizing things in your 90s. 

 

That said, Tesla gigafactory is going to be pumping out 20700 cells so we will see what that means for prices re: economies of scale.

Another interesting battery tech I'm sorta excited about is graphene,  Instantly charged, potentially low cost, and able to be made by a modified DVD burner.  Can also be used to make low cost solar panels too.....
