Issue removing trimmer head from shaft EM409MP

I recently bought the IDECH Power Rotary Scissors and want to install on a spare trimmer attachment (EM409MP). I am having trouble removing the head from the driveshaft. It looks like there is a small retaining snap ring holding the shaft to the head. Has anyone done this? Do I need to remove the snap ring to remove the shaft? Any suggestions would be appreciated,  as I'm currently waiting for longer reach pliers.
