Brandon708
Last summer / fall I was making some improvements to the outside of my house that me and my buddy where doing. The main item being LP Smart Siding the whole house. We finished the job which came out pretty nice but we have a crap load of siding left over. So, I was "forced" to build a shed to use some of the siding. I wanted to build my shed to look very similar to my house. I designed the shed on my computer to get an idea what I wanted it look like. I asked my village what the codes where for a shed size before being taxed. They told me 144 square feet and not installed on concrete pad. So I did my shed 10'x14' (140 sf) and installed it on a gravel bed. I started this shed project in December of 2013. The first thing I had to do was to excavate and level the ground. I then made a rectangle bed made out of 6x6 pressure treated post 2 high for the gravel and a total dimension of 12'x16'. I then laid down some weed control fabric and then 2.5 square of gravel and compacted it. Then built the shed on top of that including a wood floor built out of 2x8 framing pressure treated boards. The rest you can see in the photos. Very soon when this weather gets better I will stain the bottom flooring and 6x6s to match. Also, I need to install gutters and paint the blue roll up door black. Here are some photos. I should of took pictures of everything but I really didn't think about it till we got the framing up. -Brandon
Brandon708
continued... This last photo is a side by side in my computer program. The right photo is a real photo of the shed and the right is how I originally designed it in my computer. It came out really close to my drawing.

Brien
Yes, where did you get that roll up door? Did you build the door to the shed specs or did you build the shed to the specs of the door?Great job!
Brandon708
Looks impressive. It has a nice color schemeThanks, I really like the color too. I'm more into darker houses. My house is the only house on the block or in a good size radius that has a dark color. Great job. I really like the roll up door.Roll up doors are much better option for a shed and very simple to install. Yes, where did you get that roll up door? Did you build the door to the shed specs or did you build the shed to the specs of the door?Great job! I got the roll up door from a guy on Craigslist. I only paid $80 for it and i also paid $80 for both windows. He had some left over from a storage building job. If you want to order one from the manufacture it can be found at www.Janusintl.comI built the shed to to match the design of my house and I knew I wanted 8 foot walls so fitting the door wasn't a problem. I just made the opening to the specs for the door. I also bought the door around the same time as I started to design the shed so, yeah I worked it in to the design. This door is good up to a 9' tall opening but you can use it for any height because the door is just coiled up in the roll so you just don't pull it all out. In the spring I'm going to paint it and add a Liftmaster 8500 with a digital key pad on the outside to open the door. I think it will help when Im in the backyard and don't have my key on me for the padlock.

DR99
Wow, that looks amazing! I Hope your painting the roll up door though the blue clashes pretty bad with a really pretty building. It reminds me a lot of the New Yankee workshop building.
Brandon708
Could make that a nice man cave. Or atleast you have some where to stay over night when you get into an argument with your old ladyThat was a discussion we had while building it haha. Although I really need it for yard tools and all the extra crap taking up space in my garage. Nice job Brandon. Love the pergola over the slider and the cupola. Those where the two little additions I made to make it kinda unique. I also have the pergolas over a large window in the back of my house and over the garage door in front of the house. I really wanted it to match the house so I added it and it worked out pretty good. The cupola is an addition that I did for my wife because she loves pigs and I wanted to incorporate copper some how so it worked out pretty good that way. It also is a functional cupola that ventilates the shed.Wow, that looks amazing! I Hope your painting the roll up door though the blue clashes pretty bad with a really pretty building. It reminds me a lot of the New Yankee workshop building. Thanks! I am going to be painting the blue door in a couple weeks when we get better weather. I really like the New Yankee Workshop but I don't see the resemblance. haha. Unless you are talking about the other building when he built a cupola on it. That was a good episode. Thanks though. DR99
I think its the general color scheme is somewhat similar between the two even though you have darker trim.
Brandon708
I think its the general color scheme is somewhat similar between the two even though you have darker trim.Yeah, I can see that. I just started the other day to put up plywood on the interior walls in the shed. I need to order 8 more 4x8 sheets to finish it. Then Im going to start building tables, loft storage and shelves. Brandon708
Here is a photo of the shed finished. Well I still have to put up a gutter but I'm not much in a rush to do that. You also can see the raised garden bed I built next to the shed with left over materials.

roadhog96
Nice job with that shed especially with the design and framing. I hate the way those sheds that those home centers carry are framed. Yours is done right like it should be, strong just like the house. Hey what's up with your neighbors white house, is that painted graffiti on the siding?
ChrisK
Awesome job Brandon. Looks beautiful and the raised beds came out super nice!
ChrisK
So Brandon, are you going to use this as a shop or a shed? My shed is roughly the same size but truthfully for woodworking it's not big enough for me. I'd imagine for spinning wrenches it would be great but handling sheet goods in mine isn't easy. That really came out nice though!
chadlanthier
Yea my shop is not huge , I have to open windows on both ends to handle long items.
