  1. i dont believe it, it has to be a typo. my 9-1/4" electric Makita can't make it through 3". half of a 7-1/4" blade is still less than 4", and that doesn't take the arbor into account, or the fact that the blade isn't mounted to the base plate.

  3. oh, is that term not used in the US? A 'skin' is a bare tool, a cordless tool with no batteries etc.
  4. is there any skins in these brands that people would particularly like to see a review of?
  5. grab an LXT Planer and 36V (18V x 2) circ saw to go with it
  6. thanks for the love guys. not sure how us 'Aussies' came to abbreviate Australia to Oz ... We are seriously bad like that (shortening everything). My mate is Mike, he lives down the road from me and until recently ran the tool dept. of the local hardware store for 9(?) years. He does a lot of tool repairs and such so knows his stuff. He's been watching some TIA recently, since I sent him a link, I'll see if he wants to join the forum. Not sure if he's into forums actually ...
  7. Hey folks, After some inspiration from Dan and Eric, and now Javier as well, a mate and I have started making some tool review videos - Oz Tool Talk. https://www.youtube.com/user/OZToolTalk Our first video (actually a five part series) is comparing Bosch, Dewalt and Makita 18V platforms. Even if this doesn't interest you, we'd love to get some comments and feedback. And of course, if you'd like to subscribe, all the better! Cheers, Dwain
  8. actually kind of a ridiculous notion. any test could be fabricated, even a video with unboxing included. quite apart from that, if a review in post form (like this) was going to be tampered with, they would just lie about the numbers!
  9. I'm getting confused here, why is the term 'compact' being used? also, surely no 12V (even the FUEL) is really going to be close in real world performance to a great 18v impact like any of Dewalts 20V impacts? The DCF895 drove the same amount of lags in the same time as the 18V FUEL in the TIA tool fight, and there's not a great deal of difference in power with the 885...

agreed with above, impact is supreme for most screwing applications. I recently had to switch to a drill because my 886 kept shearing 12G roofing screws going into gal posts! if i was using a drill for putting in Phillips head screws, i would certainly avoid the 985 if at all possible! Since getting a 12V screwdriver, my impact gets much less use too, so much more control without the impact/ratcheting motion for delicate work.

Javier, on 13 Apr 2014 - 02:58 AM, said:I still prefer the dcd985 over the 995. isn't the 995 more powerful, shorter and lighter? how many people really care about the mode selector switch? why would you use such a large drill to drive screws?
  12. theres a milwaukee -> dewalt battery adapter!?!?

if its anything like the 985 Yimmiyo, the 995 would lose the hammer drilling, but will likely win the timber test, especially if the test allows its 2nd gear use.
  14. ive got the 'high impact' Irwin Marples (full tang), and boy are they nice. $90-120 in Aus! http://www.amazon.com/Irwin-Tools-1819363-Marples-5-Piece/dp/B00ABC29J2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397283902&sr=8-1&keywords=irwin+marples+chisels+impact
  15. Nah, it's cheaper to get things shipped from amazon if possible. There's just so much stuff that can't be shipped internationally.
  16. Dewalt did the same thing in Australia a couple of years ago, it's how I got into trade tools.
  17. There are a bunch of forwarding services like shipito. I get a suite # at commercial address (must be a big warehouse). They consolidate my packages, I choose the shipping company and they add their fee.
  18. well i just snapped some up. The Dewalt set has 10 pieces, looks good, and I found a brand new set on eBay for $75. I won't use them enough to justify the prices of Blackhawk anyway, so I'm happy. Thanks heaps everyone, and especially Conductor (per the usual)!
  19. thanks Conductor, ill look into them! I have recently signed up to have a 'virtual' US address, which is why the generous TIA guys are going to send me something (as a guinea pig). so I don't have to buy from somewhere that sells internationally.
  20. yeah just metric. thanks heaps Conductor
  21. Seems very cheap to me. Being in Aus I'm not sure whether you'd prefer to buy from CPO Power Tools or CPO Outlet... I bought one through CPOs ebay store. http://www.cpopowertools.com/dewalt-heated-jackets/dewalt-heated-jackets,default,sc.html http://www.cpooutlets.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-cpooutlets-Site/default/Search-Show?q=dewalt%20heated%20jacket

  23. Thanks Conductor, you're a gun! Probably just a set of 7(ish) metric, unless theres a great price. I'll definitely want 10, 12, 13, 14, 15 & 17mm. I'll have to import to Aus, but it's probably worth doing right. Do you think a set for ~$100 is realistic?
