  1. welcome back Conductor
  2. many of the 6-1/2" saws have a cut capacity around 57mm, so I'm very shocked if they can get 50mm+ on the M12 with a 5-1/2" blade! go Milwaukee!
  3. there you go! In aus our regular structural timber size is 45x90mm, but American's have 2"x4". Is your nominal 2" depth actually 50mm, or dressed down closer to 45mm?
  4. actually so did this one, i'll get a better picture tonight. thanks
  5. Yeah I'm thinking that it must be a 6-1/2" blade! If it can cut through a 2x4 piece of timber. I just can't see a 5-1/2" saw with that cut capacity...
  6. yeah it struck me that they had never been reviewed. is there a newer (faster?) charger in the states? thanks all.
  7. Finally got our hands on some new red gear. Write-up will come soon. Great gear!
  8. corrected. I've also heard bad things about the old 3 speed Makita. However the latest Makita brushless premium drill is fantastic and the most powerful 18v drill by a fair way I think.
  9. welcome to the forums John! I think you will find plenty of others with similar interests and tastes
  10. oustanding deals Javier. those Dewalt cases are nice, I've got 3.
  11. ahh no problems. we have the charger you have shown, it sounds like the very fast charger. we sometimes get the black and pink varieties here too, it's very confusing. With regard to longevity, I don't think the lack of fan is a problem. As I understand it, the faster you charge a battery, the more it heats up. So you can charge it very fast as long as you can keep the heat down (hence the fan). This is the reason that good chargers will refuse to charge batteries that are already hotter than is good for them. The new 4-port only puts out 2.6A which is pretty slow by modern standards.
  12. welcome! and i thought Conductor was nuts. You must be certified crazy! lol
  13. Thanks all! what is a 'lineup' guy? Oh, is your one 9A output and fan-cooled? Good idea, have edited initial post.
  14. Another review from OZ Tool Talk. This charger is fairly new to the OZ market and is probably the most useful multi-port charger on the market. It holds four batteries and charges two at a time. Charge times from Makita's website: 1.5Ah - 30 mins 3.0Ah - 60 mins 4.0Ah - 90 mins 5.0Ah - 110 mins
  15. ha, good point! Yeah I can only imagine they'll exceed 100m on a 5ah battery...
  16. Here's OTT's latest review, a planer-off? This is the full write-up, copied from Tumblr: 18V Planer Comparison - Makita BKP180 vs Bosch GHO 18V-LiA cordless planer is not a tool that everybody sees a need for. Yet I bet that anyone who has used one won’t want to give it back. They really can be a pleasure to use, and the Makita and Bosch planers are no exception. The main specs are as follows: Bosch GHO 18V-Li - 2.6kg, 82mm blade, 1.6mm cut depth, 14,000RPM Makita BKP180 - 3.3kg, 82mm blade, 2.0mm cut depth, 14,000RPM The Makita’s extra weight is noticeable, but also excusable as you get a much heftier base plate that should serve tradies well. Other than this, the Bosch has two unusual features: It only has one cutting blade. This does keep blade cost and maintenance down, but is probably the reason it doesn’t have quite as much grunt, and a just-respectable cut capacity of 1.6mm It has left and right dust chutes! This means that users can direct the chips/dust in whatever direction is least annoying to clean up. It also make fitting a dust bag or dust extraction vac too easy. Both machines gave a very sharp finish. Both gave very good run times (69.5m and 66.5m for the Bosch and Makita respectively on 3Ah batteries). The Bosch is often a little more expensive . The Makita has a more user-friendly safety-lock. So, which do we recommend? Well, we love both. If keeping mess to a minimum is vital to you, then the Bosch. For everyone else, the Makita is probably the better choice.
  17. As another grateful receiver of TIA generosity, I couldn't agree more.
  18. Krane, As you have no doubt noticed, we re-reviewed the drill, coming to the conclusion that our first one was faulty (drill or battery). Punda's comment would have been in reply to our first (less positive review). We think it's an absolute ball-tearer.
  19. Conductor, is there a reason (apart from inciting major jealousy amongst TIA brethren) for this?
  20. i have found the same, the 886 is a tad better with really big fasteners. but the Bosch's 3 speed, 1/2" sq. drive and more delicate touch make it my favourite impact driver i think.
  21. no, i imagine swimming is not within an electric tools skill set. I usually agree re: combo tools, but this one just makes so much sense.
  22. but it's not like the have a big kick like angle grinder or high torque drill....
