khariV
A 1/4"x 1" lag screw isn't really all that long so I'm quite certain either the Dewalt or the Milwaukee will work out just fine. What may I ask are you using such small lag screws for that you couldn't use a different wood screw? Maple is hard so you'll definitely want to pre/drill to keep it from splitting. peroxwhygen
I know both drills has 3 modes so How fast should I set the drill too? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
JimboS1ice
Medium would be probably he best just to make sure you don't over drive or crack the wood, make sure to drill a pilot hole and a little soap on the screw, bar soap that is, wouldn't hurt... What are you fastening? Jimbo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Grumpy MSG
For your pilot holes, look at the shaft of your lag screw, not the outside of the threads. you want your pilot hole about the same size as the shaft, or a hair smaller. That will give you the maximum wood for the threads to grab. Drill it a little deeper than the length of the screw it will allow for a little sawdust to be pushed forward of the screw.
Kato
3/16" drill bit for 1/4" lags.
jeffmcmillan
Kato is right on 3/16 pilots. With lags I go with top speed but usually much larger lags too.
