DeWALT has discontinued this lovely Italian made 60V Flexvlot mitre saw (DCS778)

DeWALT has discontinued this 10" mitre saw and replaced it with another one which seems to me to be made in Taiwan similar to the 12". Probably because Italy is not cheap anymore looool

Here is a photo of the DCS778 which is discontinued, what I liked about their 216mm and 250mm 60V mitre saws was that they were both made in Italy, very compact and also they both had/have metal disc guard.

And here is the replacement DCS727, looks very bulky with a plastic guard. Very similar to DHS780 120V Flexvolt mitre saw

It seems DeWALT never introduced 250mm flexvolt mitre saws to the US market.

I have the DHS780.  It is a bulky saw and more or less a cordless version of the popular DWS780.  Bulk and weight aside, you'll see the corded DeWalt saws on jobsides all over the US.  

 

As production costs continue to rise, I suspect we'll see fewer and fewer tools made in the US and Europe.  I know there's a rabid fanbase for domestically produced products, and I suspect (but don't know, as I haven't been to Europe for years) that many Europeans are just glad to have anything produced in an EU country.

A lot of CAS (Metabo's battery alliance) brands do produce their tools in EU, that is why I always promote these brands.

Dewalt never dropping the 10in sliding compound miter saw in the US was probably the most idiotic decision they ever made.
