James Duncan
i have been trying to decide between m18 fuel milwaukee or dewalts lineup.I just read now milwaukee will have a "compact" line rolling out march 1st.. its pretty similar to the XR series from dewalt.. In my travels i found out that the dewalt flex torq line is better than the red shockwave bits etc and for my personal DIY and household woodworking things probably dont need a full sized m18 etc... im trying to decide between the DCF985 impact (like that it can accept 1in bits for super tight spaces and has a push button bit ejector) and the 3 speeds for small fasteners and 3 leds $229 at home depot with charger and 2 2.0 batteries or the DCK281D2 which is a combo kit with the DCD790 20-volt max 1/2 in. drill/driver, and DCF886 20-volt max 1/4 in. impact driver on sale for $259 for 2 tools charger and 2 2.0 batteries i know an impact can drill etc and i do fasten more than i drill but this will be my first impact and im not sure which deal is better ... 2 tools for a lil bit more or 1 impact with more features... i will primarily be fixing DIY stuff around the house and light woodworking projects and cabinets etc birdhouses dressers etc.. Gatorb888
I would go with the combo kit. You'll find you'll never end up using the 3 speeds, the push button is only a novelty and the 886 also accepts 1" bit tips and has 3 LEDS. No brainer for an extra $30
James Duncan
yeah its basically a free drill for the price of an impact .. i just didnt know if i really need 2 tools or can basically do everything i want with just an impact.. i basically just drill pilot holes from time to time and thought maybe get the better impact etc.. madman_us
definitely combo kit
chadlanthier
Combo kit and stick with dewalt
rfwjr
It is nice to have the combo when you are working on a project and drilling pilot holes and putting in screws. That way you are not changing the drill bit out every time you want to drive a screw.
comp56
don't kid yourself........go with m12 fuel combo more than you need and the size is nice too......or go all out and get the big brother m18 fuel.....
Illini
Although I have a 3-speed impact driver that I have made use of the different speeds in several situations, I would have to say that the combo kit would be the better way to go if you're going to do drilling as well as fastening. madman_us
i would buy this kit - comes straight with 2x lboxx 2's. bought that kit about 2 years ago (just without the lboxxes from lowes for the same price) http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-CLPK234-181L-18-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Batteries/dp/B00BQV5IW2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424468491&sr=8-1&keywords=CLPK234-181 ( i know not everyone likes bosch, more dewalt nuts here) :P
James Duncan
what do you guys think of something like this to start me off .. (all my other bits are non impact and assorted brands etc) http://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DWA2T40IR-FlexTorq-Driving-40-Piece/dp/B00GMXFK3G http://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DD5060-IMPACT-Drilling-10-Piece/dp/B002LF9120/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1424470077&sr=1-1&keywords=DD5060
DR99
Well I say he should wait and stick with Milwaukee
James Duncan
yeah but the new milwaukee compacts will be like $200 each and no combo sets out .. i mean i can wait but from reading the tech specs the dewalt has more torque and weighs less
ChrisK
I'm with Madman, for the price the Bosch is a great deal and they have a ton of woodworking tools too. I'm hoping big red and yellow starting poppy ding out more tools (cordless) for woodworking
James Duncan
i was really trying to get something future proof and brushless
DR99
I have that same Dewalt bit set its been good to me so far. I like the magnetic screw holder. With Dewalt you only get a 3 year warranty verses
madman_us
good drills are future proof - they will last for years.if you go brushless on a drill, you can easily add 100-200€ depends on bare tool or as a kit.
James Duncan
well i already planned on dropping $300 on my impact or drill set.. are there any better deals out there under $300? and brushless adds like 50% more runtime and no parts to break
James Duncan
you can preorder the milwaukee combo kit (out march 1st) but its $269 would it be better than the dewalt combo? http://www.acetoolonline.com/Milwaukee-2798-22CT-M18-Compact-Drill-Combo-Kit-p/mil-2798-22ct.htm

Bigmikez
Wow u gotta tuff choice on ur hands man I have the Dewalt set and lovem but I also have some tools from milwaukee and I love them 2 though I haven't tried milwaukees fuel hammerdrill and impact I'm super happy with there 1/2 inch impact, blower and right angle 3/4 ratchet I'm kinda afraid if I do pick up the fuel set I might jump ship... madman_us
ya that kit looks definitely pretty cool
comp56
right now nothing can touch m18 fuel under $1000 and the new kit is not a hammer drill
john92awd
I was able to buy the kit and swap/trade the driver for the dcf895 and I would probably go with the kit if that's not an option. Absolutely love the brushless drill and the 895 driver is awsome. I use the 3 speeds quite a bit too. But my vote goes to the dewalt kit.
