Kato
I have a question of curiosity and would like to know what the members here think. I like the chat, I like talking to the other members. Seems like a lot of members come in, and either leave right away or stay for a couple of minutes and then leave. It also seems like some members come in, and then leave when someone addresses them...like when saying "hello" they leave. My question is this: Why do you come into the chat, and then leave almost right away?? Why do you come in, then leave when someone says "Hello"?? It's annoying, sorry to say, and I'm curious as to why members pop in, then leave right away. Seems kinda silly to me, but that's just me...
JimboS1ice
I've noticed that too, I try to address everybody when I come in and when I leave although I have my bad habit of getting sidetracked on the forum or eBay or something Jimbo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
BMack37
I get sidetracked a lot but I don't know how one would get sidetracked in the first 30 seconds of joining the chat, haha.
ChrisK
Could be the touch screen if your on your iPad or iPhone. I constantly hit the chat button as opposed to the activity button. But.....I've been checking in and saying hi on occasion. I don't stay for long, just enough to reach out to people the. Go back to reviewing posts and new members. I wouldn't be irritated by guys checking in though, I don't really think it's a problem. If a member wants to say hello they will, also some members might be nervous to get involved in a conversation with people they don't "know". I figure I've been around here for quite some time, longer than most, and I "know" most of the members enough to converse with them and would even hang out with most of the guys on the forum in person but some members might be intimidated by this type of "live" chatting. Also coming from a non social networking background (I didn't do my space nor do I belong to Facebook, Twitter or anything outside of the G+ which seems to make YouTube work better. I'm sure it might be intimidating to a non social network type to want to step over that line. Just my opinion though

And actually Brian brings up a good point. Since having gone to mod, I end up spending more time reviewing content and new members and trying to weed out spammers. I guess I've become more "mission oriented" when I am on the forum. Kind of sucks actually I gotsta work on myself clearly! Bitches gotsta learn!!!!

JimboS1ice
I won't even attempt chat on my phone or the iPad... Something they can't replace a computer with so the few times a week I sit on my lap top I try to pop in the chat room Jimbo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ChrisK
I got my Wife a super nice computer and used it for the first time in like a month to pay some bills. I use my iPad and iPhone 6+ for everything. My thumbs are starting to hate me. thanks Brian!

Kato
I went to the 6+ because of the larger screen, I constantly find myself showing photos on the phone, and it's better to see them on a larger screen. My tablet is my portfolio but I don't take it with me everywhere I go, so it's nice to have a somewhat "large" screen to use to show photos.
WigWagWorkshop
Yeah, I have hit the chat button by mistake a few times, and with my one-track/on a mission mind, I often forget to come to chat and say HI, after I am done with the mission I was on. -Steven
John Glassey
Well the only thing I have to add to this conversation is, since I only use my IPad most of the time and occasionally iPhone, unlike the computer users that can have multiple windows open and move around the forum and net while still being in the chat room I can not! As soon as I click on another tab, it signs me out. While not the end of the world, it is anoying to me. And I don't want anyone to think I'm ignorant, I do try to say hi to everyone that comes in and bye when I can. That's all. ?
Kato
I forget that most people don't use multiple monitors, I can have the chat window open and my browser with no issues. I routinely have multiple programs open at the same time so I'm used to juggling windows and monitors. I don't use the iPhone for chat, and if I use the tablet it works fine, I just hate typing on that screen
BMack37
I'm amazed by how many people use their phone and tablets to access the site. I don't really like mobile interfaces, I always access the site on my laptop. If I need to access any forum on my phone for whatever reason, I normally use the non-web version. I think my adversion is that I'm a multiple tab guy, when I browse the forum I open a tab for each unread section, then a tab for ech unread thread...makes it quick to read the whole forum. Kato
I use the phone when I'm at work and don't have my tablet with me. It's good for browsing the site for new content, but most of the time I prefer not to interact until I'm on the computer...it's too hard to type on the phone. I use Chrome on the phone, so I can multi-tab with no problems. It's the typing that gets me, I make a lot of typing errors sometimes, and having to try and correct them is a pin in the ass on the phone. Arthritis makes typing on anything a pain, the smaller the touchscreen is the harder it is.

See the thing is, I am trying to get these members to engauge with the crew. And if you come into the chatroom, you'd think you did it because you want to engauge with the crew and talk about stuff. But when you just sit there when I am trying to talk to you, say nothing and leave, its just rude, sorry, but there is no better way to put it then that. In real life, if I came in your room just to look at you and then leave, especially if I said high to you, that would be just as rude! See, I thought the introduction of the chatroom was going to be a good thing, but it appears to me that its spawning more rudeness then anything else. I often times wait hours in a chatroom waiting for someone to come in, only to have them leave right away saying nothing. I want to build a community here people, that includes the chatroom. How can I get these people to communicate? Cause I am at a loss. I have been nothing but pleasent and nice to these folks who come in, and still, no matter how nice I am, I can't get them to even say hi. How hard is it to say hi? Protoolnut, there has been a community here a lot longer than you've been a member of the forum! The chat room is new. It takes time for people, myself included, to get used to it. But for several years this forum has seen new members come and old members go but TiA has always been a great community. What's nice is that the chat icon was here for several years and it never worked. Conductor and the rest of us agreed to drop it as it was never enabled and it was up to the members to email and keep current with new posts so the addition of new and working chat room is a nice feature that was conceived quite some time ago. But...like I said earlier, some guys are not used to social networking and don't take offense to it! Keep friendly, the members will float in as the get more comfortable with the idea. I remember when the forum was super slow, it could take a long time (count days) to get a response to a topic, no it's normally a few hours at most. That is because this forum IS a community thanks to our members, yourself included!
dwain
also it depends what sort of conversation is happening and who is in there. If someone like Conductor is in there and sharing his knowledge, I'll hang around for sure. If people are just chewing the fat or talking nonsense, sometimes I'd rather spend my time chewing the fat with people I can see and hear

KnarlyCarl
Chrome on my pc automatically opens the chat into another small window, and it stays there while I'm browsing other pages or whatever I'm working on. Then I just leave the chat when I'm feeling my introverted side take over. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
comp56
I know there is fun and I know there is fun I know I said it twice, but this is a tool site and it has a live chat room, I can mostly over look the banter with some of the chat but what about members that would want to use the chat to talk tools and not read about hookers and BJ's ect ect I'm married 33yrs coming up 3 grown kids don't need to talk about sex been there done that, sure a joke here and there is ok and fun but if it is constantly talked about I wonder if I'm at a tool site or a porn site.......I tried the Band saw clinic and it was a bust but I'm not worried there will be another time for another one or maybe something else along those lines. Don't get me wrong I don't mind chit chatting just to cover the weather but I would like to see some more tool talk in the chat room........Dwain had a good point if it is just chewin fat in there may as well do it somewhere else and if is constantly like that it will get known for it and then what....
