  1. about 10 years ago I was following a truck on the hi-way and one of these things fell off the bumper onto the hi-way...........spun, flipped, rolled into the ditch.......I stopped and picked it up.....didn't thing it was going to be any good well aside from a few scuffs the thing worked perfect.......(couldn't get the guys attention so I kept it) turns out I still have it and it ended up taking a bit more abuse from me over the years.......so yesterday I seen one 40% off and figured I got to buy it.........
  2. I like goggle style safety glasses, I rub mother's pure brazilian Carnauba wax on both inside and outside every so often......less things stick to them and way less to no fogging.......
  3. there is a zillion and 3 different kinds of foam give or take a few and they can look the same but react different to cold, heat, oils, glues, paints ect ect especially around a tool box..... true story: I was gluing a piece of foam with spray glue to cover a bench.....the foam was 1- 1/2" thick used it 100 times before but the glue was a new can .......long story short the foam started to bubble and melt right in front of my eyes.........wrong glue.........grabbed a different type of spray glue and foam .....all was fine.....
  4. not sure I would want to protect my selection of plyers or tin snips in that way, I realize some things are a bit more sensitive and need protection but real estate is also important in a tool box
  5. ya grow up with hockey night in Canada not to mention so many players from my home town.....
  6. had my drill press on a counter for a while, my scrap pile was getting a little to big so I sifted through and built a little stand on wheels....(lockable)..... Material Cost: Wood scrap pieces Screws and glue couple bucks Wheels $2ea so around $10
  7. that's funny I had it in my head while I was building it....lol
  8. Wife wanted a hockey themed table...... 60" wide 6" seamless raised rail with 3" racetrack, gaming suede.....
  9. gorilla wood glue http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_12908.jpg not this type http://www.carpentry-tips-and-tricks.com/images/gorillaglue.jpg
  10. I know this an old thread but most beginners don't have heat set right, so whatever hand your holding your stinger with use other hand with gloves of course to break away flux from tip of rod before you strike...... also try to have ground clamp close to welding area especially on vehicles........ use anti-splatter and clean area before welding ........
  11. Using tools and knowing how to use tools are 2 different things, Some tools are designed to be used hard and some are designed to be used skillfully ........I have a lot more tools than some of my buddies and I know for a fact some of them think tools are just that. I don't baby my tools but I do respect them for what they are and look after them properly. Just because you can buy or own tools doesn't always mean you know how to use them properly....... Safety is a big part: using tools safely for the sake of you, others and the tools themselves.......
  12. for the welders out there, we used to take electrical tape and cover the screen from the inside ..........WTF? $%^#@ is all ya heard....... or put steel dye in gloves if they went missing all the time ....ya knew who took your gloves before long.......
  13. what? you don't count sawdust as the sacrifice of wood...........poor stuff is useless once it its the floor.......only chance it has is to fill holes if its fine enough.........lol
  14. we need carbicells, 1" square on top of everything that needs electrical power that is charged from the ambient light like solar panels...I know it is a stretch but so was remote start on cars 30 years ago.........
  15. truth be told if this was 20 years ago I would open up a shop and go crazy but not now I build tables at my own pace and usually for family and friends and in some cases myself......(our poker room has 2 full size tables at all times) this is just a pass time alternative to sitting on the front porch carving wooden arseholes for hobby horses.......
  16. ya the cleaning tip is only going to give more cuts or prolong the inevitable of resharpening or replacing the tool bit or blade......
  17. not to be critical but when cutting wood the dual saw would be creating more saw dust........
  18. thanks all, Ive had my chuck key on a steel version of one of these for years hanging on the side of my drill press.....it is just long enough to use and swings back into place.........you could just use a cable or a string but this way it is never in the way.....
  19. if you want more life from your blade, take it off every once and awhile and soak it in vinegar over night .......you wouldn't believe how much better it cuts.....I do the same with router bits as well......eats the residue from the cutters that builds up and hardens..... or if your in a hurry take blade off spay oven cleaner (easy off) on it both sides, go for lunch and wipe off, keep cutting..... learnt that trick years ago from a blade shop, a lot of blades that came in for sharpening only needed cleaning.......
  20. just a quick little tip......... Some tools you carry around with you and are needed all over the place but for me usually when they are small they are left where I used it last. So in my shop I put together a few of these for each station if you will, band saw, drill press, mitre saw ect ect I noticed the lid fits pretty snug with a good click so I took a spring loaded belt clip thingy and with a key ring connected it to the lid of a Milwaukee inkzall and hung it off each tool.... I'd say just hang it off you belt and you would have it always but I personally rather not.....
  21. part of me does and part of me don't, funny thing is I miss the noise the most .....nothing better sounding than a busy shop.....
  22. here is a pic of one of the last projects I was involved with .......only pic I had on computer.....lol
  23. ya the price of some stuff is crazy, but I guess they play on the fact some people can't or don't know how to build stuff......
