  1. I've actually had the opposite experience with customer service at the two.  Last week I was heading to checkout at Home Depot about a minute before closing and and see a guy with the apron so I figure why not, ask him to help find a second one of this part because none were on the shelf or in boxes above in that bay.  He grabs a ladder from the other end of the store and finds a box of them tucked back where the label wasn't visible.  What really struck me is after he hands me the extra piece and puts the rest of the box on the shelf, he goes looking for another part that was running low on the shelf.

At lowes I've had people say they're going to check somewhere and just leave.  It seems to depend a lot on the store and individual employee, but I've generally had more help at Home Depot.  Only time I go to Lowes is when I can't find something at Home Depot.  I used to go if Lowes was supposed to have a better price, but after I found something marked down to half the Lowes price I had just paid in Home Depot I gave up on that too.

Keep in mind this isn't a shot against every Lowes store, just my local one.

That was a typo, mean to say "I'd rather spend my money at HD...Lowe's employees are the least helpful people I've ever met, I only shop at Lowe's if they're the only option or I'm buying something for more than 50% off. Most of the time I go into Lowe's I leave without anything.

  2. My apprentice told me a while ago I'm the only person that smiles when some one calls me an asshole lol.

I've become accustomed to because I'm called an asshole soo often. The problem mostly is in the fact that I don't lie and I don't hide my feelings. I've literally been talking with someone, didn't say a word after they made a stupid comment and they said "You think I'm stupid, don't you?" I responded "Yes."

  3. They do have a good selection of wood.

Yeah Jeff, I have a number of HDs and Lowe's in my area and they're the same distinction. Lowe's has a decent selection of power tools but I prefer what HD offers(Milwaukee). Both have their place but I'd rather spend my money at HD because they have much better customer service and helpful employees. Lowe's I just walk in and if someone actually is bored enough to ask me if I need help:

If you actually need help, figure it out yourself. If you ask, you'll end up with 4-5 employees that have no idea, you'll get irritated and you'll end up figuring it out yourself anyway.

They like the warmth and closed off environment. I see it in TVs all the time, it's soo damn gross. We used to do repair work for a rental company, I put of gloves before I ever touched one of those TVs, luckily they sold to some other company that doesn't use us. I'd rather be working on electronics from the Air Force Base, hospitals, Hard Rock hotel(even though those have a ton of dust and smoke buildup). Roaches are just soo damn nasty, they crap all over the electronics and it can cause issues beyond making me nearly throw up.

  5. Is that their motto? I didn't think it went quite like that lol

Actually their motto is "You can't spell 'Lower your expectations' without 'Lowe's' "

I believe their history started as a shop in 1958 called "Lower your expectations" where customer service and knowledgeable employees would be completely absent. Over the years the store grew for some unknown reason and the name shrunk to "Lowe's", think the letters literally just fell off.

  6. Here's the Gearwrench set: http://www.sears.com/gearwrench-16pc-ratcheting-wrench-set-sae-mm/p-00904332000P?sellerId=SEARS&prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2

I bought the 20 piece set for $45 a couple months ago. If you go in store you can find some of these sets made in Taiwan, the newer ones are made in China. The finishing on the Chinese wrenches are a little worse and there's a hair bit more side-to-side play in the Chinese wrenches...but still, some great wrenches for the money. I don't recall seeing another set of ratcheting wrenches from China being this good. They do skip sizes in these sets. I've been looking for deals to fill in the holes, I'm nearly complete, need only three more...all of the singles I've found have been Chinese.

  7. That is some scarry shit! Make sure you scan your computer by more then one anti virus program. I recommend Kaspersky Inter Security and Malwarebytes.

    Malwarebytes for scanning your computer.

Ad-ons for Firefox for helping protect yourself, blocking ads and speeding up browsing: ublock origin and disconnect. Adblock plus used to be the go-to ad blocker but they sold to an undisclosed company that is allowing "safe ads" if they pay a fee. Also make sure you download the correct ublock program, the origin part is important, "ublock' isn't really supported/updated, ublock origin is updated when it needs to be.

I never saw any of the website issues. I don't recall what ad-ons I use for Chrome.

  8. No Metabo yet at my Lowe's either, supposedly there are some Fluke sightings at Lowe's also...but not at mine. Heard they're getting some new pliers also, can't recall the brand but it was a quality brand.

Also hoping they bring in more of the Irwin NWS pliers, right now they only have the 45-degree pliers.

  9. Is that for the crimper or the model with the spring? At my HD, that's the price of the model with the spring, which is $30-33 on Amazon. The crimper model is $44-45 on Amazon. I believe the differences are the crimper and teeth, versus just a spring and the gauge of wire stripping. I believe the crimper model is the one that goes to the smaller gauge wire.

  10. What Jimbo said, if you're going to use them a lot, comfort grip. The plastic grip is nicer than most others, so don't worry if you go that route either.

I like to buy my Knipex from Amazon/Amazon Warehouse as well as Sears. If you monitor slickdeals.net about points, you can earn a lot with little effort and get Knipex pliers for really reasonable prices. Over the last three months I managed to buy 11 pair of Knipex pliers, total spent out of pocket was only $71, normal Amazon or KCtool prices would have equaled $400. Keeping in mind that I also get a lot of $10 off $20 coupons for tools from Sears, and most of the time I can use points on top of that. $10 off of Knipex alone makes it pretty reasonable. Before you buy from Sears, check Amazon and KC tool for prices. Also I haven't purchased from JB tools but their prices seem lower than KC...I think I recall hearing that Chad's toolbox also offers good prices.

  11. Wow the Snap On pliers look like junk compared to the Kleins. I bet like a lot of tools it's not really made by Snap-On either a bunch of their stuff is relabels or while label oem stuff especially the power tools.

I think those are rebranded for Snap On. Most of those type of wire strippers are pretty comparable, in my opinion. I have a pair of Kleins I think you'd say the same thing about, they don't really need to be as nice as these all-purpose pliers.

    yZffRX6.jpg

The Kleins aren't perfect, there's little things like the tips are not the same size. Knipex(left) gets this right every time, it doesn't photograph well because you can't tell the open spot on the Knipex is the valley of a tooth.

    TgsLPWe.jpg

...but at the same time the Kleins do the major things soo right like threading the bolt shear so the threads remain perfect after cutting.

  12. I really like these pliers a lot. I highly recommend them if you do wiring or need a large crimper or bolt shearing. They have a model without the crimper for about $10 less if you don't need it. I like my automatic wire strippers but these are great for a tool bag or somewhere you can't fit the large auto strippers. The teeth are nice and sharp, these are really comparable to Knipex in quality but the functionality surpasses anything Knipex or anyone else seems to offer.

Seriously, watch this video. I did and added it to my wishlist on Amazon, few months later I received one in a TiA giveaway!

  13. Crazy prices but they sell though.... That's the sad part.

Just a bunch of guys buying tool boxes to impress other guys.

Then when you say that, they claim that it's the warranty or that it has better resell value...but it doesn't because any tool box is going to be worth less than half price used. Half of $5,000 is a lot more money lost than half of $750.

  14. I'm not sure if they're selling on eBay because there are a bunch listed...but it's not hard to do a listing, it's free and it's only about three clicks to relist the item(or you can select automatic relist). The majority of the work would be taking the pics and keeping track which model tool went in which case(and others that fit, check other listings for this) but you only have to do it once. It could easily be a free $100+ if they do actually sell. You'd need to check the "sold listings" to see if they're actually selling.

I can give any of you some help on listing things on eBay if you need advice or whatever. A few years ago I was selling a lot on eBay, now not soo much.

  15. Ha ha that made my day Bmack, reminds me of the Saturday night live parade of Gillette razors when they were advertising their new 10 blade razor lol.
