Are you invested in all three platforms? I wouldn't by any of those as a tool to build my platform around and wouldn't buy any to start a new platform...none seem THAT much better than the others.

that used to be 270? That is some serious cash for that.
Closer to $230. The precision stuff done well is expensive, lower tolerances...A PH000 costs more than a PH1.

Now in Kobalt blue, I wouldn't buy at this price, I'd think it would at least hit $20 like the high-visibility green set...hopefully $15

I've been busy...
Today's gifts from Sears:
Bought this stuff at one of those pallet stores. $20 for the impact set, $10 for the line tester and $4 for the power cord which was needed for a buy from the day before:
Garage sale find. Needs cleanup, I have changed the power cord which was previously fixed with wirenuts haven't touched the surface rust yet. Was only $100
Then my big purchase. I've been looking at planers and was thinking I'd go with the Dewalt...well a DW734 popped up on craigslist for $250. I had to jump on it, the guy said he used it once to plane down a few boards and I believe him, it is basically new. I've already made a few buckets full of shavings with her!
For those with planers, how do you store the spare blades the ship with? I was thinking of buying a machinist tube (that the bits come in) or using PVC, I don't like them loose.

I can't think of many recent Kobalt purchases, but the little 1/4" socket sets are outstanding. I got the smaller 19-piece set for $10 in 2010 or 2011 and loved it. When it got stolen I was hoping to find a replacement for a similar price, but settled for the 51-piece set when it dropped to $30.
Kobalt is hot or miss, and Lowe's seems hellbent on promoting the brand for certain trades only to clear them out or lessen their presence in favor of other brands. Until 2014 or so, Kobalt concrete, masonry, and drywall tools were sold. Now the mechanics tools and toolboxes are the only ones that dominate their respective shelf and floor space. Layout tools, hammers, and other hand tools attempt to compete against other brands at prices that are little, if any, cheaper.
Most stores are putting together much more aesthetic power tool displays, though, with brands including Kobalt standing out. Even though I have no interest in adding the brand to the multitude of cordless platforms I own, I hope that Kobalt 24v Max tools are considered outstanding well into the future. I have a 20v Max impact wrench and it is pretty good. It'll be gifted to a relative this Christmas, though.
The problem is that the reason they clearanced last year was because the sockets switched to manufactured in China...well I say problem but they're probably just fine.

I don't know the actual quality level but those were the good ones that didn't have any problems.
for some reason we switched to a different manufacturer for kobalt tool chests, something about craftsman being in lowe's now.
That would be weird because Waterlook makes a lot of Craftsman boxes...well maybe there is a non-compete thing, not wanting two differently branded same build boxes or something?

@Stercorarius What are those made of?
I love it! I've always wanted to get a bunch of vintage tool, gas and automobile signs...but there's a severe lack of funds and space.

I have no idea what that is but it looks awesome! Well done!

@BMack37 That the gen 2 drill?
The one I posted, yes. The one in the kit is gen 1.

Easiest way to tell is that they moved and changed the belt clip.

This Kobalt utility knife, $10 and nearly identical to the single-blade Milwaukee. It has a textured finish and has a different blade change system but works the same, belt clip on the Kobalt is stiffer and solid instead of wire style. Definite winner.

First one, ratchets. I noticed the Pro90 came out about Father's day, maybe a little earlier. They came as a set, I swear they were labeled as "Made in China." Well recently they put the out as singles, so I took a look: The label on the singles said “Made in Taiwan.” They do have the normal switch orientation unlike the other current Kobalt ratchets. I would NOT buy these, they’re gigantic!
BUT, HUGE Kardashian sized BUT and the reason for making this thread; these ratchets have a sister ratchet; the “Mini head” (72 tooth) those are “Made in Taiwan” really nicely sized, priced the same as the Pro90 and again, switch is in the correct orientation. If I was buying ratchets from HD or Lowe’s, the “Mini heads” would be my choice. I didn’t have a Snap-On ratchet with me but the size seemed really close. The lever on the mini heads are also really nice, nearly flat but easy to switch over. They have a recessed locking button but it’s chamfered so your finger fits inside the head and easily pushes the button.
Same orientation, mini on the left and Pro90 on right:

I've seen an interesting trend with Kobalt tools, some have been in a decline in quality but some are getting better. So much like a HF good or bad thread, here's Kobalt's. Feel free to post power tools.

I think they will stay around as a low-cost option but brushed motors definitely have their place. Brushed motors in general will always be used but as far as tools go, I can see it...then I imagine it will come back.

Yeah, screw that. No amount of money is worth that, can be a serious long-term problem. I'd link him to some articles about it.

The shelving unit arrived today, didn't realize it had the option of casters or leveling feet, so that was a nice surprise. Made the mistake of assembling it in the living room and then having to figure out how to get it through a door way. Luckily popping the top shelf off let me tilt it enough to fit. I'll post a photo over on Instagram once I get it loaded up. It's really good quality and I like how simple it is to adjust shelf height. Feels nice and sturdy once you get a couple of shelves on it and rock solid once they all are on. One thing that would make it nicer would be if there were numbers stamped into the inch increments so it's easier to make sure you have all four clips on the same level.
Yeah, I just count from the double line segments...I just bought three small shelves from Kmart using points. This makes one with bins, two of those large ones, one 72" X 14" X 36" and three small shelves.
BTW, all sizes use the same thread so casters work on the small carts with the crappy casters too.

The separate collar for mode select is a winner for me. Metabo but I don't think you can make a bad decision here.
