  1. Had to go and buy some new water hose quick connects and ended up in the sale section again. Bought another set of Milwaukee knives, the larger Coast light(which I hate, it's going back). Empire contour gauge which is a LOT nicer than the General they have at Lowe's that I almost bought. Swanson mini square because I've been drafting up wood projects and have been tired of going to the garage to get my steel ruler...some neat stuff on paper thus far!

I don't but they look like they're made by Apex (Husky/GW/New Craftsman). They have other pliers that look like they're made by Kal/Pro America, those look really good.

I'd order some on Amazon and return what you don't like. Semantics allows for "Item not as described" for a free return. Not an awesome practice but it won't break Amazon.

OK, Schmidt got back to me.

He says that he's about to stop importing Toptul because no one is buying them. If anyone else is interested, he can get a box, but they come 6 or 10 in a package.

That sucks. The sockets and wrenches are insanely nice for the price...that being said, I haven't ordered. I like having SAE and Metric but he rarely has the SAE stuff.

    That's exactly what I need... but $35!

I actually found some that I really like from Toptul, but the tools are ~$15 and the shipping is $30... each.

You know, the Tektons were what I was looking at in the first place when the reddit tool forum guys turned me off of them and told me to go buy the Channellocks...

I think that I will try to sell the CLs, buy the Tektons for now and save up for some NWS Irwins...

Shoot Dennis a message and ask him if he's going to be importing any more pliers. He won't special order for you but if he's buying some already, shipping is cheaper. He's the unofficial Toptul US distributor. https://www.ebay.com/usr/schmidtdn?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

Toptul makes good stuff. They made the really nice chrome Kobalt ratchets that were recently discontinued. Their wrenches are very well liked by the users, comparing them to Snap On and other high end manufacturers.

  5. Slip-Joint, Tekton is made in the USA by Wilde and cheap. The handles are thicker than they look, thicker than Channellock: https://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-8-Inch-Joint-Pliers-37123/dp/B00KLY1F9U/

These are Tekton's other made in USA pliers (That's it, slip and tongue and groove, the rest are China):

I'd also consider these, they sound like a gimmick but Engineer's screw gripping pliers are one of my most valuable tools, if there's a head to grab, they always remove the screw. Made in Japan:

That might be it, but this was 20 years ago; I have no idea which ones they were :)

Ahh. I think you are really looking at expensive cutters and then you can go a little cheaper for the other pliers. Even the Klein cutters that are good are about the same cost as the Knipex, NWS made Irwins(unless you get clearance pricing). I believe KC Tool will be having sale pricing on NWS-made Felo pliers/cutters.

I have one pair of Channellock cutters and they suck compared to NWS and Knipex. If your $15 cutters don't cut and your $30-$40 cutters do cut, it's worth the investment.

Pliers are mostly useable regardless but the fit and finish suffer when you go into the lower pricepoints. Husky is made by Apex so those should be sort of close to Gearwrench...or just buy on Amazon, if you hate them, return them.

  7. Which model of Kleins have you used? There are different cutters with vastly different quality and durability. I wasn't a fan of Klein until I figured that out, now I think they're a solid choice.

i dunno, but I put together a bunch of tool boxes today but they're all chinese boxes, but better quality chinese boxes, clean, no sharps or shavings, all come with zerust mats and really nice casters.

Are these the boxes you were talking about? (Not my picture, none at my Lowe's)

One thing I really find appealing about these drills is the angle of the head to the grip, slightly angled up. I remember reading somewhere (probably on this forum) that this is a European thing.

Far more comfortable. I didn't realise this until I got a Dewalt. Perpendicular as can be.

Agreed, angled is more comfortable. You'd think all American drills would follow the gun industry and the bar is the 1911 angled grip. What's odd is that M18 is straight but M12 is angled. Though Milwaukee feels less straight than SBD drills.

Great find, at half the original price!

Been meaning to get a second one, as the wife loves mine, and sometimes I forget to get it back into the truck. Plus, 2 in an attic sometimes wouldn't be a bad thing. I'll be looking for that deal this weekend.

I actually set mine up to blow on my recliner in the living room and when I work on the back porch or in front I tote it with me. In the garage I have a high velocity fan but sometimes I use the M18 to blow sawdust from my face or workpiece. When I was using my rotary tool to hand carve the dog's toy box paw print the saw dust would shoot up into my full face mask and block my view...this helped a LOT.

    The box I'm talking about:

I might tote this second one to the shop with me for soldering smoke and to get a breeze on the workbench. I HATE still air.
