    newbie here...

Hi, I would strongly suggest you stay away from the siren song of the large combo kits. Yes they include alot of tools but do they include the tools you want? need? I recommend starting with a drill and impact driver kit like this one: http://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-20-Volt-MAX-Lithium-Ion-Cordless-Combo-Kit-3-Tool-DCK387D1M1/207175338 This kit starts you off with arguably the best 2(yes DeWalt makes a stronger drill but it is much larger) tools you will probably use most often and gives you a small and large capacity battery pack, not to mention an extremely handy flashlight. From there get the bare tools you need(A bare tool is one sold without anything but the tool no battery no charger) After getting a couple tools your definitely going to need to add more batteries, at this point get maybe 1 more small battery and then only look for 4ah and larger. The small packs are great for their light weight and you will really appreciate them but they just don't give the power and runtime on saws grinders etc, this is where the larger batteries really shine. Back to your question about the saws included in the kit you linked..... those are COMBO KIT only models and are "cheepend" versions of the regular ones The circular saw has a steel shoe versus the magnezium shoe of the regular model other than that, no notable difference. The recip has a non adjustable shoe and lacks the sideways or 4 way blade clamp other than that they are the same. I have the DCS391 saw http://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-20-Volt-Max-Lithium-Ion-6-1-2-in-Cordless-Circular-Saw-Tool-Only-DCS391B/203164241 and love it, but it NEEDS at least 3 4ah batteries to be useful(1 on it 1 charging and 1 ready) and I would say that is true for all cordless saws. After getting your needed tools its a good time to watch for deals on other tools that are of "lesser" need, obviously the easiest times to find deals are Fathers day and Black Friday sales but also almost every other major holiday has a good sale and even in off seasons deals are abound. Tool manufactures are in the business to sell their wares. So keep an eye on this forum the guys here are more than happy to share their good finds and also check out Toolguyd(not a plug he is just another great resource for finding deals). I also find Slickdeals .net and Dealnews .com to be helpful. I've mentioned the 4ah batteries a few times because they are the smallest USEFUL size, there are 3,4, and 5ah batteries in the same form factor and there is no noticeable weight difference so the 5ah is clearly the best in its class but comes with a tad higher price tag while the 3ah is cheapest it simply doesn't have the run time for more than a hand full of cuts. Hope this helps and welcome to the shin dig.
  2. I have well used batteries from 2014.... I plan to well use em for years to come ?. Agreed keep your receipt or just know how to look up you purchase history from Amazon because DeWalt definitely uses the date code otherwise.

    Dewalt 9ah

HAHAHA right, Was in Boston for a few days and stayed at the Sheridan, I had an awesome room there, however some buddies had a 2 bed closet that smelt of dead hookers. Had to walk about 2 miles to a beer store and the only micro brews they had were from my home town.... fortunately I didn't have to interact with the locals much at all but WOW traffic is crazy there.

    Dewalt 9ah

To quote my self from another forum: "as I understand it the discharge rate of 18650 cells above 2.5ah are not very adequate for the high demand put on them by most tools where as 20700 cells have larger headroom to go beyond 3ah. I suspect Milwaukee's 9ah (using 15 3ah 18650 cells) can overcomes this problem due to the vast stable of brushless tools that require somewhat less dischage of the battery. Dewalt on the other hand has mostly brushed motors out in the hands of their users and wouldn't want to gamble on potentially exploding batteries." benjamenjohnson Dec '16 1 pchem315 pchem315: Yes, the 9Ah FlexVolt batteries definitely are using 20700. You can see the 9.0Ah batteries are larger to accommodate the 20700 cells. @cr8ondt has got it right, at least up to his speculation, but it's inline with what I heard. The speculation from the NPS16 attendees is that Milwaukee was late bringing out the 9.0Ah battery because the 3ah 16850s are right on the edge of viability and they were having heat issues, but Milwaukee never verified that.
  16. Its been out for only about a month or so, Stuart from ToolGuyD posted some info: http://toolguyd.com/dewalt-dcd777-brushless-cordless-drill/ and the online specs of the DCF787 are (last I checked) nonexistent but I did see the kit at Lowes and its rated at 1500 in-lbs and is EXACTLY like the DCF886 with the chuck of a DCF887. https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DCK277C2-Compact-Brushless-Impact/dp/B01KZNDYT0/?tag=toolguyd-20#productDetails

    Dewalt 9ah

Haha Right!!! I agree, but these are made for the guys wanting the 3ah side of them...... poor bastards that want em for the miter gotta shell out $400!

    Dewalt 9ah

hummm Tool Craze is reporting the 9/3 is the same size as the 6/2.... even goes so far to say the same size cells....... I'm kinda sure hes wrong.....
  22. The battery charge indicator on the packs could be faulty, this is not uncommon and widely documented, contact DeWalt customer service and they will a) email you a paid postage lable for replacement or b ) just send you a new one asking you to "dispose" of the faultly packs(really they are probably just fine but no charge indicator). Good luck
  23. Left is a Porter Cable right is a Black and Decker as you can see are Identical. Fatmax and Bostitch batteries are also the same on the inside. With VERY LITTLE physical modification to the cases these batteries are all interchangeable. More of the discussion @ToolGuyD https://discuss.toolguyd.com/t/this-is-inspired-by-the-toolguyd-battery-article/158
  24. Logically they should ditch 1.5, 3, and 5. The 2, 4 and 6/2 all use the same 2ah 18650 cells and the new batteries use 3ah 20700's. Losing the other SKUs would help them increase purchase volume of the 2 remaining cells leading to better margins and potentially lower cost to the end-users (us).
