  1. This arrived today, thoughts on it once I've had a play with my new toy.
  2. Your knowledge should be shared, the name "Rohm" is now on my radar.
  3. Yes, I'm dribbling in anticipation, but it's killing the wallet!
  4. Just ordered a bare 996, this forum's costing me a fortune!
  5. I really like the chuck, feels solid enough to me, but I'll admit I'm no expert on such things. Anyhoo, thanks to this forum I've now ordered yet another Yellow machine, a 996! Gotta stop buying!
  6. My Milwaukee M28 combi drill is forever dropping bits, the problem seems to be the electronic brake, it's so vicious that if you release the trigger to quickly it makes the gearbox clack and undoes the chuck. An easy fix for Team Red, just reprogram the braking profile.
  7. Yeah, but don't forget the twenty year part is only manufacturer defects, not wear and tear. That's only a two year warranty, if you wear it out after two years, it's on you.
  8. Hadn't looked at the weight of the 40 volt cells, good point. I don't like the idea of charging higher than 1C, I believe the Makita chargers can hit 9 Amps? Not good, even if the manufacturer claims their cells can handle it, I'm convinced it shortens cell life. Red do indeed make great tools, my V18 set was going strong after eight tough years before they were stolen. I just think they need to start pushing the higher voltage platform a bit more.
  9. This! I feel the Red 18 Volt platform is good, but way too many eggs in that basket, their M28 range has virtually nothing! They really need to address this! The Dewalt 40 Volt system looks good and could work very well with construction tools, but I guess that's what Flexvolt is for. No personal experience of the Makita 2x18, but spoke to a guy with the SDS plus and he said it was good, but chomped through batteries very quickly.
  10. Today's "Tug tool problem" is that I'm bored, so I've watched hours of tool reviews which led me to go outside and play with my drills. I've literally been drilling holes in wood and steel just to enjoy my high-end BL toys! Gave me a chance to try my new TCT Starrett cutters, they're bloody good! 79mm through 2" timber, no problem. 51mm through mild steel trunking, child's play. Sorry, but just had to share.
  11. Didn't think of that! Mine will be like a brick! A very lopsided brick!
  12. Almost exactly what I'm doing! My entire inventory was stolen last year, so now I carry cheap tools that I don't worry about being stolen, but all my big guns are red and yellow. These don't leave my sight, they only leave my home if I know I'm definitely gonna need them.
  13. Taken the plunge and ordered a Dewalt 887, just the bare unit to use with my flexvolt packs. Pics on arrival.
  14. Cheers, roll on Monday, then I can give it a go!
  15. I find the Ryobi tools a bit hit and miss, but their cells seem pretty good.
  16. Wanted one for a while, now I have one. Question is; "can I get it straight from now on?"
  17. How's your runtime? I'm quite impressed with my 54 Volt so far, especially as they're only 2ah.
  18. They've literally stopped making them?
  19. As an electrician with a hobby in RC cars, I do understand the electrical power side of things, higher voltage is definitely more efficient and gives more driving force when you're trying to pull more amps. I guess for small tasks they're ok, but as I said, I've never owned one. Surprised to hear you say Dewalt aren't continuing their development.
  20. Dewalt do their 10.8 volt range, not used it myself though.
  21. Never owned a cordless grinder, but from what I've heard none of them are that great due to their lack of torque. If I was in the market for one, I'd be looking for the highest voltage I could find, regardless of manufacturer.
  22. Some interesting reading on the various ratings of these different machines. The problem I'm finding is that my Milwaukee M28 sds, with its claimed 4.1 joules, is too powerful and keeps snapping my chisel bits at the chuck end. I've got a personal best of three busted chisels before lunch! I've now got a Dewalt 323 flexvolt, claimed 2.8 joules. Hopefully this will still be able to cut chases in to masonry, but without busting bits every five minutes. It is a weighty machine, but not heavy enough to be a nuisance (unless you're constantly drilling overhead!). Good review BTW.
  23. Latest purchase, seems like nice kit so far. I'll try to write up a report on my thoughts on it once I've spent some time with it.
  24. Anything with power! Be it my sds drills or my impact drivers, I love em all! Here's two of my favourites.
