BMack37
Some of you may remember that I do electronics repair as a profession. Well I found a great source for quality misc stuff that some here might be able to use. I'm not talking diodes and capacitors but banana plugs, alligator clips and the like... For the LONGEST time I've been stuck buying crappy alligator clips that were cheap and worked but didn't hold well, broke and closed poorly, finally I found someone who sells something high quality and silicone wire!!! Not cheap PVC, silicone can better survive heat and is much more flexible. They do cost a little more and they still come from Asia(Hong Kong) but the guy that runs it speaks English well and has nothing but high quality stuff. He has no idea I'm posting this and I've never really spoken to him outside of my orders but I believe in this stuff. I know this won't be a popular post but anyone with a DMM or Clamp meter might be interested so it's worth a share. Link to his store: http://stores.ebay.com/99centhobbies Some of the more popular items: 18AWG alligator copper clips, silicone wire(!!!): http://www.ebay.com/itm/18AWG-50cm-Silicone-Test-Leads-w-28mm-Copper-Crocodile-Clips-1-Pair-Red-Black-/201043948015 16AWG alligator copper clips, silicone wire(!!!): http://www.ebay.com/itm/16AWG-50cm-Silicone-Test-Leads-w-43mm-Copper-Crocodile-Clips-1-Pair-Red-Black-/171253604936 2mm gold plated slip on connector, this slides on to any normal probe's leads(as long as it's not a "lantern style" lead): http://www.ebay.com/itm/2mm-Gold-Plated-Sockets-for-Test-Probe-Tips-with-Heat-Shrink-Tubing-Pair-/171084548642 Heavy duty 4mm banana plug: http://www.ebay.com/itm/4mm-Solderless-Stackable-Banana-Plugs-1-Pair-Red-Black-/171030386766 I have a lot more but those are the highlights. He has nearly every clip you can want, you can make your own alligator clips to size. Make any cable with slip on style, banana plug male or female and soon he will have shielded female available. What I do is buy silicone cable in bulk from a cheaper supplier(it changes any given week) then use Franky's clips. If there is a shipping charge, he will combine shipping. Due to shipping regulations in Hong Kong changing on Jan 1st 2017, his prices will be going up. He's just one guy with a hobby so sometimes he's slow with leaving feedback. Feel free to ask me any questions about the cables and connectors, I have most of them.
KnarlyCarl
Awesome, nice find, thanks! I had a dozen or so alligator clips floating around on my bag, but they soon go lost!! I also need to have a few more jumper wires, and it sounds like this is just the place to get some more that will actually hold onto the terminal
BMack37
They are definitely very good, nice tight joints, not sloppy like every other clip I've had(other than the expensive ones that go on probes or banana plug). They're even nicer than the Oscilloscope alligator clips. Jumper wires is something I'm still looking for, right now I have the cheap ones. I need something on par with the rest of my leads. I'm thinking of making my own with sewing needles.
