jrk_indle84
Well like the title says think I finally killed my fuel 1/4 inch hex driver. Started the other day where whenever I'd put battery in it wouldn't do much of would just kinda sputter when hitting trigger. Was using the compact batteries and at first, if put full size battery in it would take off, but now nothing. Can't really complain though, have had it for at least three or four years and it gets used and abused and never had a hiccup till now. But guess the point of this is is there any point in trying to warranty the thing since have had it so long and guessing from the looks of it they would laugh and is there even a way to look it up and see if its still covered under the five year without having a receipt? I could look through some old paperwork and see when purchased but at end of day to replace it isn't going to cost much more than 120-150 depending on which model so it's deal breaker if have to junk it. I've just never dealt with warrnty service so not sure how it worked.
Daniel Julian
Might just be something simple like trigger assembly. They replace that on my hackzall. If you can read the serial number, it has a date code in it and they can tell you if its still under warranty. It doesn't cost anything to send it in and have it looked at. I'd go online and fill out the warranty stuff, get your mailing label and send it to Milwaukee.

If the tool is less than five (no receipt needed they date stamp the serial number) years old, which I bet it is, they honor their warranty. Of that doesn't work I'd highly recommend and American made (yeah yeah global blah blah blah) Dewalt DCF887!
jrk_indle84
Yea I planned on sending them a email but I left the jobsite today and forgot to grab the drill out of the job trailer. I'm not sure its just a trigger issue, when you put the battery in nothing at all happens now. Meaning the light doesn't come on like usually does. Thanks for response though, looks like that would be best option anyway, worse they can say is its not covered.

Really has more to do with I'm pretty loyal to most things if don't have problems and this is only one I've had issue with and I definitely got my monies worth out of it. If wasn't so deep into the red though dewalt has some tools that would be nice.

Milwaukee honestly has one of the best warranties out there, so I wouldn't hesitate to go online and send it in the self addressed label! Bremon
Plus he can replace his 2653 with the 2753 and fall in love all over again lol. Gave my 2753 away because I have a DCF887 and feel there could be a 2760 Surge in my future ?.

Honestly that's why been iffy on sending it off for warranty, unless the newer gen ones had more balls would be the only reason I'd like it better. The one key or any other programmable setting don't really impress me all that much. I only need it to drive in 3 inch deck screws, tapcons, and the occasional drywall screw into a stake holding a board. But thanks for the help fellas, looks like will be contacting Milwaukee and go in from there.
Bremon
@jrk_indle84 it has more power, a nicer handle, and is smaller and lighter.

Bremon
Lol @Cr8ondt the 2654 has been out for what, 4 years? So yeah, my comment could apply to the 2753, the 887, or the new Makitas ?
jrk_indle84
Yea think if what I found to read date code is right, mine was made in 2014
Biggie
It's probably worth trying to send it in for warranty. Even if you have the itch for a new one it never hurts to have a backup. I'm sure you would be happy with any of the new offerings from milwaukee, dewalt, or makita. I don't really like to completely endorse it because I haven't used it too much but I think if I were you I'd at least take a look at a surge. I know my 2753 was faster than my 2653 and the surge is neck and neck with my 2753 driving 3" deck screws. The thing that really impresses me is just how quiet it is and you really can't hear the difference in youtube videos but its a big difference in person.

Well, from our experience here, you're better sending it off than using a service center, there are so many centers that need to get their act in gear... it's almost gauranteed to take 3-4 times longer going through a service center than just shipping in the tool. Although, i can see that with larger items...

Yea I tried stopping by our local HD yesterday because usually the guy that works the tool sections is pretty good and in most cases if the tool is still under warranty will just swap it out. He wasn't there and they didn't have the tool anyway, but the person that was there said they would send it off for a fee and I jus kinda laughed and said if that was the case id do it myself for free. But its gone now and hopefully hear something back.

If it is a manufacturer defect, the warranty states it is covered. I don't know how much HD or other stores follow the "limited" part of the limited warranty but I'm sure it wont hurt to at least have it looked at. Yea I'm not sure how much they follow what the warranty is to the letter either. I just know from past experience and what they've told me in the past that the HD we have just lets you swap tools if the right person is working and they have the tool. Don't know if its right or wrong but figured at that point that's between them and Milwaukee.
Biggie
The place we buy tools from is a certified dewalt and milwaukee service center. I've found that they like to use that wear and tear part to get out of warranty claims. On the other hand I've had both dewalt and milwaukee tools that I've done online claims for and they never so much as questioned it just get a fixed tool back. There seems to be some gray area especially with triggers and electronics. Service center likes to call it wear and tear and factory direct seems to just fix it if it's within warranty period. Yea I may not have had as much trouble if they had the tool I needed. But they only offered them in a kit and the impact was only thing messed up out of kit I got. Coulda maybe pressed the issue little more but didn't. Did just get a email saying they sent some kind of package back. Didn't say much else so idk if they fixed it, sent new one, or looked at it and are sending the original back. Guessing there will be a explanation in package. So wait and see again. jrk_indle84
Got it back today, they replaced the trigger and soemthing else don't know what. Don't have any batteries here at house but will get put to use first thing tomorrow so should be all good. Apparently the direction control button must of had some dirt and whatever in it because now it's pretty touchy so haveta make sure and kick it around in the dirt little in the morning ha. Kind of annoying every time put tool down it flips that switch but is what it is. Overall pretty happy with first time using warranty service and got everything pretty quick.
