Milwaukee Fuel Help a noob out. Two drills same model different look

Hi,

 

I was wondering if anyone with experience in fuel drill models could help me out on the difference between these two drills that I have that both have the exact same model number but have some obvious differences and potentially some less obvious ones.  

 

So the first drill I got work to buy a Fuel drill a couple years back and the thing is amazing and compact. Loved it so much I finally decided to buy one for my self. It just arrived today and to my suprise the drill is a bit different, well more to my suprise that it looks and feels a little cheaper. 

 

New drill (bottom one with silver chuck and drill bit in it). works old drill (top one with all black chuck)

 

Basically I'm thinking of giving work my brand new one and keeping the one I bought for work two years ago for myself but I'm not sure.

Why? 1. because the brand new one with silver chuck looks cheaper and the chuck doesn't have as much grip or not as nice a feel to it as well. 2. I also noticed on the new one I got (bottom drill) that when I put it on full speed and suddenly stop power it makes this really loud chunk sound which the old drill does not. So it feels like maybe the motor is cheaper some how. 

 

I'm wondering if Milkwakuee put like a cheaper model in its big bunddle deals or something which I have purchased on it's own? As I just bought the skin by itself.

Great question and not sure what is going on with that.  I know sometimes Milwaukee sneaks an updated or a gen 2 version into the market place but I am not sure which one is which or even if that is the case.

Interesting changes. I’ve heard of some brands selling slightly different versions of the same tool depending on whether it goes to a business vs sold to general public. Also I can’t help but wonder if this is related to recent moves by TTI that have made Milwaukee products overlap more with Ridgid and Ryobi.

The all black chuck is the newest chuck and in the US we only get that on the Gen 3 m18 drills.  I see these are fpd models so you must be EU but in the US they're called a 2504-20 and we only get those with the older silver ring chucks.  The all black chuck should be the better chuck, just interesting that the older drill had a newer chuck and the new drill had an older chuck.  Maybe other countries actually get different grades of the same model tool?  It would also be nice if milwaukee would update the chuck on the gen2 hammer drill in the US, but I suppose they'll just wait to bring it out on the Gen3.

Thanks, yeah I ended up returning the silver chuck one and buying a black chuck one on ebay from the only seller who had one. I asked him and he claimed the silver chuck is the old model and the black chuck is the new model. Though on ebay like 80%-90% where silver chuck drills. 

 

I also checked Sydney tools who is an AU authorised seller and would unlikely have old stock and their picture shows the silver chuck ( They are also who my work bought the 2 year old drill from which came with black chuck)

 

When you goolge this looks like silver one Milwaukee 2504-20 M12 and M12FPD-0 looks like black chuck but sydney tools shows the M12FPD-0 with silver chuck.

 

So all in all very strange.

 

However I am happy I returned my silver chuck one and got the black chuck one. It looks nicer, it feels nice and I could swear the motor sounds a little better when you turn off the power.
