Coppertone
Greetings, First off, I'm really glad I found this forum to converse with other tool folks. I look forward to learning a lot and contributing in ways that I can. I picked up a Dewalt DCD 790 Drill yesterday and immediately upon unboxing and slipping on the battery, I noticed that the battery fits very loosely and wobbles. If I shake the drill in my hand, the battery wobbles and rattles. This happens with both batteries. Is this normal? My Porter Cable 18v impact driver has two springs and the battery "snaps" on and is held firmly in place.....no movement at all once on. Is my dewalt missing said springs? Thanks in advance! dwain
my dewalt and bosch 18v tools both have a little movement from memory.
DR99
Dewalt doesn't have the spring loaded battery like Porter Cable, but I don't have any newer Dewalt 20v tools to see how much play they have in the battery contact area. They do want to have some room so that the battery packs are easy to slide on and off.
NicholasShetley
The ones I have used fit snug and didn't wobble at all.
Coppertone
Thanks guys. I went to Home Depot today and all of their display models have the same "looseness" as mine. Interesting....
Frain20
Makita have 2 small rubber cylinders in the base of there drill to combat the movementIm interested to know why Dewalt decided they didn't need something similar for there cordless range.. Coppertone
I'm not sure. I like the drill, but this really makes the drill feel cheap.
happyfeet
Hi, I just got a DeWalt DCF886M2 kit and both batteries fit loose it rattles really bad. I went back to where I bought it and checked out 2 brand-new kits. There all loose. Seems to me it'll get worse the more I use it, and yes it does feel really cheap. DeWalt should fix this. Frain20
Some of you might know that I purchased the dewalt multitool last week, well I noticed the tool had inserts that actually stop the batteries from moving!
Bigmikez
that's cool atleast dewalt fix that issue now, thanks for the heads up Frain!!
chadlanthier
I was going to say none of batteries have any play. Tool feels solid
RickyMcGrath
ALL my 20V are solid. VERY SOLID. I have 20+ 20V tools and 20+ batteries.
ericsmoldt
I just got a refurbished DeWalt DCK281D2 drill & driver set. One of the first things I noticed was that the battery didn't stay snugly attached to the tools. I was afraid I got a bum set, so I did some research and found that about half the people out there seem to encounter this. Here's my solution; I layered two small strips of gorilla tape behind the catch, on the battery, and it seems to keep the battery snug to the tool without getting in the way.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
JimboS1ice
Yea for whatever reason the battery's fit most of my tools slightly loose, I have 1.5, 2.0, 4.0 and 5.0 packs and they all have a little play in the packs, nothing to be concerned about.JimboSent from my iPhone using TapatalkEdit: just want to clarify that they are not truly lose where that would be concerned but some tools have just a little bit of play in them. The dewalts don't seem to fit as snug as the m18 packs do.

Millerzconstruction
I have the drill and impact kit. Batteries are snug on the impact dcf885 but are loose on the dcd780I had a ridged drill like that new. It was a defect. Take it back if it's under warranty. You'll more than likely have trouble down the road with it. I did. Miller
