The Motts Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 I've read on other forums that some people feel that Klein's quality has gone downhill recently, especially when it comes to screwdrivers. The last Klein #2 Phillips screwdriver I used seemed to take a lot of damage after camming out of one screw, so I've been disappointed in their quality as well. Well, a while ago Klein announced they were coming out with a new steel alloy for their square and Phillips screwdrivers: http://www.kleintools.com/content/our-secret-sauce-new-improved-screwdriver-steel Recently I've seen drivers at Home Depot where the hang tag says Strongest tip yet. Has anyone used any of the new ones? Do they hold up better than the old ones? I might buy a Phillips and use it this week to see if I like it better than the last one I had.
sparky603 Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 I used Klein's professionally for years, but decided to try something different after being disappointed with the last set I purchased. Grabbed a Milwaukee set, as I wanted to try the ECX driver, and they've held up to everyday use quite well. At this point, I see no reason to switch back, regardless. While I still have many Klein tools in my bag, they don't hold quite the esteem they once did, sadly.
DR99 Posted December 7, 2014 Report Posted December 7, 2014 Was it a bit tip screwdriver or a regular? They did open a new heat treat plant this summer maybe they had some issues. I'm sure Klein would warranty the screwdriver or bit.
BIGBEARJT Posted December 8, 2014 Report Posted December 8, 2014 most be something fairly recent, ive got some that are beat to hell that 10yrs old, still awesome, some around 5-6 yrs old still kicking, then some about 2-3 yrs that just as good.
chadlanthier Posted December 8, 2014 Report Posted December 8, 2014 Yep I've never had a problem with their screwdrivers. That sucks when u depend on a tool and it lets u down.
TylerDama Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 I have been using the newer Phillips tips and have yet to seen any significant wear...and to be honest I am a little rough on my screwdrivers.
Fazzman Posted December 13, 2014 Report Posted December 13, 2014 Ive purchased some new Klein items in the last year or so and havent noticed what you are describing. Id call them up and talk to them personally, their customer service is top notch. Possibly mention TIA. ;-)
Conductor562 Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 I purged a lot of my Klein stuff awhile back, but I will say I have seen multiple threads in various places about a drop in quality.
