Different Milwaukee Drill & Driver Kits - Home Depot

Ok so after looking into this more i am super confused by the packages at Home Depot!  I noticed that the price for the drill & driver combo kits changes almost daily! Last week alone the one i got went from $199 to $169 to $249....what.  And i was just looking on the site and some other threads and started noticing a lot of dif things.

This is the normal package - Model # 2691-22

          - Home Depot link:  https://tinyurl.com/j8ylb8y

   - This used to come with a free flashlight, but now its only when you buy online and not in store... The is the kit i got 2 days ago, the day after it does not come with the free $50 flash light!

- Driver:  2656-20

- Drill:  2606-20

Then i noticed this one (notice the belt clip on the driver is different & its $60 more) - Model # 2697-22CT

          - Home Depot link:  https://tinyurl.com/zfbd22x

- Driver:  does not tell you...

- Drill:  does not tell you...

....and there were a few more I will post when i find them.  Can anyone help?

I have noticed the big difference in pricing for the kits as well. The kit you posted for $259 has a hammer drill and the impact looks slightly different, but I assume it is newer or older then the $199 kit.  The $259 kit looks to come with 2 compact vs the standard packs in the $199 kit.  The free tool or flashlight deal changes frequently on their website, it just depends on the day. I am not sure what you are asking though?

from what i was able to gather both the drills are the same, but it seems the drivers are different. the one for $250 is a "CT" which i cant find on the Milwaukee site.  just confused since you cant compair the driver and drill b/c the $250 ones does not give you the part numbers.

I also just came across some other odd things (and its not just with the drivers).. For example if you buy a normal Milwaukee driver tool only (normal= brushed  & Not fuel) and you buy a kit with that same driver they should be the same. -- so if you have 3 drivers in front of you... 1 tool only, one that comes with battery, one that came in a kit; they all will have the same number on the sticker on the actual tool.  so "normal" being 2656-20

----- but if you compare the 2 links below you notice that if you just buy the tool w/o the drill it has 1500 torque and not 1400 like all the others.  and this is the case with a lot of tools.

1400 torque = https://tinyurl.com/j8ylb8y

1500 torque = https://tinyurl.com/zoaxcbz

and another is if you get the drill in the $150 kit its 450 torque. If you buy it just tool only its a dif part number but its 500 torque.

I heard a rep a Home Depot say heard about this and a rumor that the "same" milwaukee tool you buy at Home depot vs direct can be off by 1 model # and be different guts inside.... and its seeming to be a trend.  buy tool only its 1 model # up or down and more powerful than any tool in the kits at HD.. true?

2602-20  2606-20  2607-20  and 2 others seem to all look the same and be mixed in and changed about all dif kits at HD.  I wonder if the kits that everyone thinks change price al the time are not actually the same kits.  maybe the kit thats 200, then 169, then 219 that we all think is the same is actually dif tools in the kit each week at HD?

Edit: looks to be so.  You dont even see these when your on the site browsing.  You physically need to manually type in each one.

and there are a lot more.  just read that HD swaps each week but never changes display or add so you would never know till u buy it hahah

sorry for all the posts after we figure out, i will clean up and consolidate everything....

so here is another example.  same exact kit on HD and Milwaukee sites, only dif based on what comes with it and part numbers is that one has a normal drill and one has a hammer.  but.. look at pics the driver is complete dirrerent (shape, clip, the metal housing bolted on, etc). but again, they are both 2656-20 drivers?

Ok, the CT means compact battery as far as I know. Milwaukee uses the -20, -21, -22, -21CT, -22CT to indicate how many batteries come in the kit. -20 is the bare tool, -21 has one battery, -22 has 2 batteries.  The drill in the bottom pic is a hammer drill, you can see the hammer symbol on the side of the drill right behind the chuck. As far as the impacts, they say they are the same model number, but they are clearly different in the pic.  Trust the model number over the pic, however the pics at HD are usually accurate.  They also make a Driver that is not a drill, it only has the 1/4" hex quick connect like an impact.

The big deal here is those are two different drills and two different impact drivers you're comparing and milwaukee has many more (though not as ridiculous a number as makita).  They release them as a drill/impact pair so you have seven different combos: Brushed v1, Brushed v2, Compact, Fuel, Brushless, Fuel 2, and One Key.  I might have missed one but you get the point.  Pricing on older models can be incredibly inconsistent which is why you're seeing those differences.  Sometimes the newest model will be cheaper than older ones because of sales.

The 4 digit model number is per tool, so yes the 2602, 2606 and 2607 are all different tools. As I said in the last post, the -20 means bare tool.  The kit model number 2697 and 2691 are both different kits, regardless of the -22 or -22CT.  The 2607 is a hammer drill/driver and the 2606 is just a drill/driver. I know it can be confusing, it took me a while to figure it out.

Here are all the ones I found. If it was me, I would spend the $299 and get the XC kit with the free 4.0. I have the XC kit and they are great, I also added a 5.0 so I never have to worry about running out of power.

So when i click that link the first option is the 299 xc kit but the 3rd is another 299 kit but only the drill has an xc bat.  im confused b/c the driver in the pics is dif. the xc one has bolts holding on the metal front and then one w/o the xc bac (3rd option) looks dif.  Do we think that they pics are wrong on the HD and Milwaukee site or is the one that is paired with a xc bat a special edition?

The 3rd one is brushless and comes with one xc battery and one compact. They make many different drills and combo kits so the best advice I have is to look at whats included in the kit. It will say at the bottom of the description. The first and fourth kits are the same tools with different batteries, plus the special buy free 4.0 on the first kit only. The first comes with the XC (3.0) batteries and the other comes with the compact batteries which are 2.0 I believe.  The second kit is not a hammer drill and the third kit is brushless, but not fuel.  They usually include bigger batteries in the brushless and fuel kits as well as most hammer drill kits.

hmmm. so its sounds like i have a lot more research to do now.  I have 14 days to return it or exchange.. guess my main things are do i need a hammer drill or just regular, am i fine with the brushed ones i have now or go to brushless, fuel is gonna be too much $ for me right now so thats prob out.  and what batteries do i want to run on them....

The compact brushless will outperform the brushless tools there (even the larger ones), plus it's smaller lighter and doesn't drain batteries as fast.  I'd take a compact brushless with compact battery over a full size brushed with XC battery any day.

so in regards to this CT and XC.  does it just have to do the the battery itself. or are the actual tool smaller or compact. and can you use any bat's you wanton then all

what you are looking at are 4 generations of the Milwaukee drill/drivers, when you see different bare tool model numbers it is corresponding to the age of the model, slightly different specs ect ect .

there are regular brushed models, compact brushless models and fuel brushless models. Whenever you see Fuel it will be their flag ship models, since June 2015 they have added a second generation Fuel model that will add to the confusion, as people have adapted to call it a gen 2 model but they do not advertise it as that. Just recently they have added to their line up with the same drill/drivers with one-key, they are un-mistaken by the one-key symbol.

as for batteries they have 2 compact batteries (1.5ah 2.0ah thinner)  XC 3.0ah, 4.0ah, 5.0ah and soon to be 9.0ah in the M18 line up.

Tim,

Hopefully this helps.  Some of the links/screencaps you have are to older models which can get confusing, for sure.

Here's the current lineup:

Brushed https://www.milwaukeetool.com/power-tools/combo-kits/2691-22

Compact Brushless https://www.milwaukeetool.com/power-tools/combo-kits/2799-22cx

FUEL ("Gen2") https://www.milwaukeetool.com/power-tools/combo-kits/2897-22

FUEL + ONE-KEY https://www.milwaukeetool.com/power-tools/combo-kits/2796-22

These are all hammerdrills with 1/4" hex impact drivers.  Batteries vary but are listed in the contents.  Comp covered the battery line-up (only missing the 6.0Ah XC which like the 9.0Ah isn't out quite yet).

I understand wanting the best bang for the buck, buy you also need to factor in what you personally need vs what is out there. I have the brushed 2607 hammer drill and 2656 impact and both are awesome tools. I also have the M12 Fuel 2404 hammer drill and 2453 impact. I have the M12 brushed 2407 and 2462 impact too, but I am giving them to my Dad. All of these tools are great in my opinion, it just comes down to what you need and what your budget is. I would suggest getting the xc batteries, the tools will all do what you need them to as long as you have a decent battery pack.

I am blown away by the power of the M12 Fuel and if you are using them for diy or homeowner work they are worth looking at. Doing decks and light construction they would work too, but you may drive screws a little faster with the M18 impact.
