Butchered a small case, to adapt to a Radio......Now it is no longer sittin on the Floor. In Picture #3, the Dewalt Portable Vac and Flex Light are both held in place, by using a dead 18V battery, with the batteries removed and the empty case screwed into the appropriate location. Tool locks on to the battery case and keeps them secure.1 point

I didn't even know recently that smoke detectors had a life span and how old the ones in my house were. They were from 1999 I didn't seem that long ago when I put them up. I think that's the problem you replace the batteries but forget how old the darn things are. Anyways this was on my local news and though it should be spread around to the TIA Crew. http://www.wxyz.com/news/region/wayne-county/canton-man-warns-others-after-his-home-fills-with-smoke-without-his-smoke-detector-going-off1 point

Not quite as good a deal as two free batteries, but if anyone is already flush with dewalt batteries, CPO is offering 16% off on dewalt goodies. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

This is my bread and butter here, houses today flash over way faster than older houses due to the high quantity of synthetic building materials. Houses that are air tight get super heated causing flash overs in as little as five minutes where as older houses would take twenty minutes. It's very alarming that most houses today are fully involved before fire departments can arrive in seen. Where older houses would be a room and contents fire you see larger fire spread and much heavier damage in today's house fires. If your bored check out some studies that NIST has done, it will really make you guys think twice about the construction of your home. If you guys are interested I could post some information too. Zachary, here is the link for the 745 http://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-15-Amp-10-in-Compact-Job-Site-Table-Saw-DW745/100497987?MERCH=REC-_-PIPHorizontal1_rr-_-204512007-_-100497987-_-N1 point

Whereas you asked about the Ryobi I answered. It in all fairness, I have the Dewalt DW745 and love that little saw. Plenty of power and a superb fence. I will get the Sawstop when I move my shop to the light but my basement just doesn't have the room. I paid about 240 for my DW as its the special addition they put out for the holidays and its truthfully a fantastic machine. Dollar for dollar. I think it's the best saw, hands down over the small contractor saws. It doesn't come with a stand but I built a roll away cart and it works wonderfully.1 point

I have used the Ryobi, Ridgid, Hitachi and the Dewalt contractor and portable table saw. The Ryobi fence is not precise, having to measure both ends of the blade to the fence for every cut. The fence on the Dewalt seems to the smoothest and most accurate, they have accurate table saws and miter saws.1 point

Happy New Year Crew! I am getting up and logged in by 7am, has I again volunteered to cover the on-call for New Years Day so my team can enjoy the day with their families. I am happy that my co-workers were able to enjoy Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day without having to worry about being interrupted spending time with their families. -Steven1 point

Got to break out my Porter Cable impact today, reinstalled approximately 6 feet of fence I had to take down. The County came out and helped remove roots from the sewer line. I built a new back fence when we moved in last year along the back. The new fence gives about 3 feet of seperation between the existing chain link fence. The neighbors behind us have 3 large pitbulls and I have kids and 2 large dogs. Not to mention the folks behind us have all sorts of garbage or something of that nature in their yard. Couldnt see looking at that forever. My yard is about 70 feet wide. The view blocker:1 point

I had a ryobi table saw about 4 years ago. It worked for some stuff but I wouldn't do anything critical on it. My biggest complaint was the fence an the lack of power. I moved up to a Bosch several months after I got the ryobi. It was well worth the extra money. If I remember correctly the Bosch was like 675 an the ryobi was like 200. so it's hard to compare the two. That was 4 years ago so things probably changed in one way or another.1 point

Another option to consider is a track saw. The Festool TS55 REQ is the way to go with track saws and it is pricey but it does a great job breaking down sheet goods. It all depends on what you doing. You need a table saw for dado work and other things. Sorry if I'm adding more options than solving things. Like other people you have to consider how much use to cost of ownership which is a concern.1 point

I know it blows pretty away pretty much anyones budget but the Dewalt Table saw its probably the nicest out out all of them that rack and pinion fence is genius as all hell. $524 is a huge chunk of change that's why I didn't suggest it. http://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-15-Amp-10-in-Jobsite-Table-Saw-with-Rolling-Stand-DWE7491RS/2045120071 point

I've owned one of the original blue ones for about 11 years. The housing is made of plastic and for the most part it gets the job done. But I wouldn't count on it for any precision work. It can get bogged down if you push it too hard. Not sure if they changed anything with the newer ones.1 point

Low Voltage circuits are pretty cool. Always remember. You need the following--- Power Supply, Switch, Load, for a circuit. Look into Carols books and she explains all of this in great detail and very easy to understand. They are very inexpensive books. You won't find books like hers in any Trade school...1 point

Any electrical meter buy a Fluke. If you're on a budget, buy a used Fluke(try pawn shops). I've tried other meters, they work but none compare well to a Fluke. It's worth the small investment and it will last and be accurate for as long as it is treated in the way it was intended, even with the occasional drop. If you look at how long you will use it and figure out how much it costs per day to use, they're dirt cheap.1 point

Amazon Deals Permathread http://www.professional-power-tool-guide.com/power-tool-forum/index.php?/topic/8120-Amazon-Deals-Permathread Bmack does a good job of posting some good knipex scores, there's a good link to a search for Amazon warehouse deals too. I do a decent amount of eBay shopping, there's some good stuff on there just know what your buying. If you don't have one for electrical make sure you get a good multimeter and a non contact voltage detector, those are very valuable, trade electricians on here will tell you flukes, they run a large chunk of change but are worth it.
