Personally I plan on going with Carlyle for my hand tools. They are sold at our local parts store and if you are a mechanic why wouldn't you go with them since you won't have to wait on a truck to come by. Odds are you will be there anyway to get parts. I feel that they are better than snap on and they are a good bit cheaper too. They might be out of your budget though.

I have had great luck with the warranty on my craftsman sockets. If they have the socket in stock they will replace it no questions asked.

I would get a set of half inch drive crowfoot wrenches as well if you will be working with hydraulics much. Some of the lines get pretty big and they are the only option to get to them.
-
I agree with conductor. I have a couple of non click stop proto adjustable wrenches and have never had an issue with them.

We either have to cut our own lumber or make a 30 mile round trip to get some good lumber. The lumber place in town sells the warped crap. There might be one good board in 100 2x4s.

Well the thing is on tv that they buy everything new, they get their tools furnished for them and they have 15-20 guys on one car. The only show that I feel is realistic is counting cars. They never tell how long it takes to do a vehicle.

That's a steal. That was one if those deals you couldn't lose on.

My local Lowes barely carries any bosch tools. They have the job site table saw and a few 12 and 18 volt drills and impact drivers but that is it.

Don't expect it to be like it is on TV DR. One of my friends dad was offered a job at a local custom shop. They wanted him to build a total of five rat rods in a total of fifteen weeks in his home garage. There is no way in hell he could have one built in fifteen weeks. Look at how long we have been building this.

Thanks conductor! It is the same paint as the frame just in a rattle can. It is rust oleum sunrise red. I just thought I would let you guys know I have been working on this for almost a year now. I came in when my grandpa was working on getting the body ready for primer and we were working on boxing in the frame and beefing it up. My grandpa has been working on this for a whopping five years. If I remember correctly he traded an arc welder for it. It was just bits and pieces and what was there needed new metal. The top rounded portion if the cab just above the doors needed new metal along with the rocker panels and the entire floor of the bed and cab. This thing has made a complete turnaround. No one can believe what it looks like now compared to what it used to. Sadly I don't have any pictures of when he picked it up, I never did see it either though.

I would think it would be on the motor housing.

Those wheels work great Javier. They work great for taking paint off of metal but I have never used them on wood.

Get a house boat! It looks like you have plenty of room there

This is why I'm glad I live out in the county and not in the city. We have a lot less of this going on.

We now have the engine and transmission in now. We still need a driveshaft but we can't find one short enough so we will probably have to get one made. We will also have to make a grill for the radiator but we found some aluminum that will work. I polished that up and for the aluminum being scrap, it turned out fairly good. Overall it is starting to look like a hot rod now.

There goes my graduation money.

I'm going to Linn State technical college. They are changing their name this summer. It is located about 150 miles from home so I can still come home on the weekends. I will have a dorm up there with one of my friends who graduated last year.

I'm suprised it held that much. I bet the backpack is heavy with all of that in there.

Thanks guys! I am going to tech school to be an auto mechanic.

I just thought I would let you guys know that I will be graduating high school this week. I am somewhere between 25 and 35 in my class if 131 people which isn't too bad in my opinion. It has been a long ride but it has been one that I wouldn't change.

If you can find an old yost vise I would do that. We have an absolute monster of a yost vise in our shop and we picked it up for almost nothing. Hit up a few local yard sales if you can.

The cells in power tools are designed for a higher amp draw unlike the laptop cells.
