  1. Do you use your ceiling air cleaner much? I need to use mine more but dont like listening to it. I know it works because my filter is filthy. LOL
  2. Is it a dual action sander or something? Maybe something mechanically broke in the "transmission" and its not orbiting dual action as it should and more spin action. Loan it to your neighbor and let him use it on a project
  3. So I have a need for Y fitting/diverter/blast gate. I have not found anything I liked so decided to build one. I have a Festool dust Extractor that sits next to my Festool Kapex miter saw. The dust extractor has a mini cyclone on it and I use it for sanding, track saw, miter and the new domino. I get tired of switching hoses around and to be honest, if I have a 2" cut to make on the miter saw I will just let the dust fly instead of switching the %$^&@ hose from something else! When you build something like this you have to keep flow in mind of course. I have seen guys build square boxes which I cant imagine works very well. So I built this which will wall mount next to the Kapex. So what about flow you ask?? Well here is a look at the inside And here is how I did it. Could not have been simpler. I cut 18 3" x 3" squares of plywood and drilled a 1 1/2" hole in the center. Then I glued them together being sure to line up the center hole. I did this in a couple steps to mantain the center easier. After truing them up on the band saw I used the miter saw to make a 15 degree slice on each side. Then glued them together and let them dry. One that was done I cut top and bottom off and give them a nice sand to prep all six sides And then added a 1/4 face to the front and back to capture and hold a piece of UHMW in place for the blast gate. I have not drilled the holes in the bottom as I have not decided what to use for a 2" nipple to attach the two Festool hoses. I will add something to the end of the UHMW to act as a handle and stop when I do that. Was pretty pleased about the outcome and to be honest it did not take long to do.
  4. I agree and speaking of that, I was watching their open house video last week and there was a guy there showing his hand made flat blade marking gauges which he makes in Arkansas. I am trying to use marking gauges more instead of rulers and tapes. Because of accuracy and also using one to slice end grain fibers to prevent tear-out. It showed up today. What a nice piece! This is what it looks like.
  5. I really wanted a granite top on my table saw but just could not live without magswitch stuff ! So I am constantly fighting rust. Frustrating.
  6. Fastcap power head screws and flush cutting bit. Cover with Fast Cap wood adhesive caps which are real wood and finish as well. You can see bit and screws here. http://www.fastcap.com/estore/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=15&idcategory=0
  7. Paint? Wipe on poly. Looks like a million dollar wood shop!
  8. John, all recent. Did not have anything except a small stanley block plane when you and I were working together. The book you want to buy is Marc's Hybrid woodworking book. But watch a few videos on shooting boards and see what you think. I just built Cindy that little box and it allowed me to do stuff that would be impossible with power tools and much faster. Love something he said in the book (or maybe a video) about having high tech power tools that you can adjust down to .001" +/- 1/8th. I have no intention of becoming a hand tool guy. The power tools save your back and get it close.
  9. My intent was to buy ONE nice bench plane. Settled on a #62 jack plane as I thought that would be a good all around plane. It worked fantastic and in conjunction with a shooting board the low angle blade allowed me to trim end grain in a way I did not realize was possible. That led to a block plane and a rabbiting block plane and a router plane (on back order) and finally a scraping plane which showed up today. Very cool American company in Maine. Below is a Youtube tour which is pretty cool to watch. Love Hybrid Woodworking !
  10. LOL, I have no place to put on of those bad boys. But would be nice ! Can always dream. Might as well dream for one with the miter side arm thing too.
  11. Yea, I struggled with it. Had buyers remorse the next day and the next day after that. But honestly if I had it to do over again I would probably still buy the Kapex. I did buy a Colliflower Zero Clearance Insert today. Looking forward to getting it.

    Cabinet

Nice job. I should do the same and start using that stuff all the time !
  13. Yea, its stupid. There is no reason a miter saw should have cost as much as this !
  14. I dont know his motivation but if you watch his videos he downsizes on occasion. He had a super nice powermatic bandsaw and sold it and downsized to one with almost the same capability with smaller footprint. Now the footprint difference was not enough to justify the change so I dont know the actual reason. He said he had a Makita on the floor too. I am sure all of its has been sent to him. This is his business so you can bet there is going to be an plug here or there for monetary reasons. That was not the best review in my opinion since he just makes straight cuts but it did show the dust collection differences and I agree the Festool clamp is nice. Anyone that owns a Kapex pretty much has the same opinion which is probably its the best you can buy but not worth the money. My 3HP Grizzly cabinet saw cost about the same money as my Kapex. Makes no sense.
  15. That is very cool. You Canadians know all the snow tricks.
  16. Great buy. I know some wiltons are highly sought after based on the kind of iron. I have two different wilton vises but neither are high dollar ones. Some of those old bullet vises command big money. Lets see the after pictures
  17. Just ran across this. Had not seen it before.
  18. I heard buy one get three free is in the works
  19. I love my Kapex. Best miter saw I have used hands down. Like everything Festool... price sucks. My second choice was the Bosch, but its a unit I would want to lug its final resting place ONCE and never move it again. For me its too bulky to move around. The Kapex also has a lever you flip that locks the depth so its like a radial arm saw. So you can cut dados or rabbets with it or just a half depth slot. Very handy.
  20. Yea thats a good video. Very basic version but I learned from it. did not want to use mine in a vise like that. I have a cleat on the back that just allows me to drop it on the bench anywhere.
  21. I have been reading about shooting boards for several months. Seemed like a good idea but never took it much further. Lately I am becoming more of a Hybrid Woodworker thanks to Marc Spagnuolo. I bought a new Lie Nielsen #62 low angle jack plane a while back and there was a link for shooting board plans with it. I decided to give it a try so I built a short version to see how it worked. I was amazed and after a little research decided to build another that would fit my personal needs better. Today I tossed together a better one. The man difference besides making it longer was making the fence/stop adjustable so I could move it towards the cut over time. This allows me to plane end grain without any tear-out. Makes me want a regular shooting plane !
  22. Thanks all ! Well I just kept going and pretty soon I had a box Just got one side of the hinges mortised in and need to do the lid hinges. Have more sanding to do on the inside. Anxious to see what it will look like with finish so wiped a coat of Danish Oil on the lid.
  23. Tried again with the box joint and no issues. Live and learn.

    Size matters...

Hey Kato, They are never big enough! Mine is L shaped and about 1050 SF. About 15' of it is only 20' deep where we park and the rest is 37' deep except one corner with auxiliary stairs going to the basement Fortunately I built a 15x24 shed about 3 years ago to hold the yard stuff so that junk is not taking up space in my garage. Not complaining as I am happy to have what I do.
