Detent pin or Hog ring

The purpose of the detent pin is to make sure the socket stays on. If you line it up with the indent in the socket it will lock on so it's safe for overhead use on linework, commercial and industrial sites etc., especially when the socket size isn't changing all day. Properly used you're basically guaranteed to need a driver to push the pin in for socket removal.

Hog ring is for decent socket retention with ease of swapping. I vote hog ring.

I've got both and I will never have a detent model again. I'm actually looking at replacing the plug in the detent gun. If you're using the same size socket all day it's one thing, but if you're doing mechanic type work it's a pain in the ass.

Definitely another vote for Hog Ring

You obviously need an impact for every socket you use!
