Those of you who are plumbers... You're a better man than I to deal with this stuff every day. 

 

My wife got a call from my friend’s wife saying he was sick and had been sleeping all day but she had discovered water in the basement.  She wanted to know if we had a shop vac to clean it up.  Long story short I went over there and cleaned it up and found the sump pump had died.  I don't know how long the water had been in the basement but it stunk to high heaven.  I still can't get that smell out of my nose.  It's all cleaned up now and I'm putting in the new pump tonight.  If I'm this put off by a little ground water, how much more would I be if this was a sewage problem - I perish the thought.  Plumbers... my hat is off to you.

 

Also, how suspicious should I be that my friend isn't really sick and just didn't want to deal with the mess? lol

Suspicion level on HIGH Alert! I wish I had all good neighbors willing to help out as you did. A lot of times it only works one way though. Good on you, but be wary if something similar happens again.

Really that's crazy the ground water smelled that that bad it must have been stagnant. I'm glad I don't have a sump pump to deal with!!!

As a kid, we always had one. It's was a royal PITA. I'm glad we moved to Texas.
