Best weld?

good old stick will do, all position, or weld all flat.....preheat welded area to remove scaling and moisture, wire brush as well.....being fence posts there will be no real need for structural strength concerns. 

chamfer/bevel all joints grind smooth after weld if need be, prime and paint......

 

no stick welder? no problem do same prep and use a 110V flux-core buzz box........

My fence will be rod iron and wanna weld some design pieces. Comp 56 do I have to prep anything or make sure that the area is sanded down for the area I am welding???

yes mainly to remove scaling or even dirt oil residue ect ect, new steel or not wheelibrated or sandblasting is best this is not needed if you can grind the area
