comp56 Posted December 18, 2015 Report Posted December 18, 2015 so I have some large 6"x6" Tamarac wood, this wood is kinda overlooked many times but has very nice grain patterns usually and that is why I like it....I'm going to make a knife block but not solid, I took a piece and planed it down on all sides then cut out the middle and carefully kept the grains in tact so when all back together it will look like a single piece of wood with center missing...... here is some glue up pics for the block and for the top insert with knife holes.....if you notice the grain is all over the place..... I decided to match the cutting board for the top plate that will hold the knives... more to go yet...dry time sucks....lol
JimboS1ice Posted December 18, 2015 Report Posted December 18, 2015 Love the grain pattern compJimboSent from my iPad using Tapatalk
comp56 Posted December 18, 2015 Author Report Posted December 18, 2015 thanks jimbo, finished it up.....all sanded up square added a round over to break edge......also made sure knives fit ok....no seems looks like original block of wood.... gave it a mocca stain with some butcher block oil rubbed in to finish....
Fazzman Posted December 18, 2015 Report Posted December 18, 2015 That came out great,I love how you made the top match the cutting board.
