  2. Congrats on the haul. I wish Hakko still sold the analog version. Every time I need to change the temperature on mine I have to look up a how to guide. Luckily, I usually just keep it at the same temp. I really need to get some Knipex pliers for myself.

  3. Picked up a few items at cu woodshop today. Store is basically a rockler store. I love it. I priced out some cherry for the up coming vanity build. Think I'll wait a week or two to pick it up. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

  5. New soldering station, figured I'd give a digital one a shot but I'll still keep my tried and true analog station. Funnily enough, this costs less than replacing my analog station: Weekly Knipex:

  6. Lol; "Dewalt has made products that are too popular to keep on the shelves". Holy crap, a FlexVolt radio spot literally just came on the radio as I type this. Going hard on this new line!

  8. Just a heads up - HD updated the page to show it DOES INCLUDE TWO 9 Ah batteries! They mention it in the text and a photos showing the extra battery included. $599 with the quick charger and 2x9Ah make it one of the better bargains now in Milwaukee's product lineup and makes it far more competitive with the flexvolt. Two 9ers means you can go all day nonstop with this saw. You figure the 9Ah kit with charger is $250 and another standalone 9Ah is $200. It's like getting the saw for $150

  11. Yeah, that's my worry. I change temperature rather often because I work on modern and old electronics, so I need low temp for delicate boards with leaded solder and high temp for the lead-free. Knipex are great but don't overlook Pro America, Xcelite and Engineer! Lindstrom cutters are fantastic too!

  12. Is at least one side of the form exposed? If so you can take the blade out of a sawzall and run the shoe over the forms since it's only a 5-1/2" think pour. With that 1-1/8" vibrator head I'd be worried about it redistributing or getting stuck on aggregate in such a thin, tall pour.

  13. Active noise cancellation is really only useful against low frequency, continuous / repetitive noise. I've used these on airplanes and they do a pretty good job of filtering out the engine drone. The way they work is by matching the incoming sound with an inverse sound wave. The result is a loud-ish whoosing noise that's basically white noise. It doesn't eliminate the sound, but it masks it so that it's less annoying. That having been said, you can still get a headache from high pressure / volume white noise over extended periods of time. The best hearing protection you can buy (unless you're part of the 1% that is) as far as filtering all frequencies is 34 dB rated (which reduces noise levels by 34 decibels, of course). This is pretty significant and sufficient for shooting or loud machine noises. The difference that we're talking about here however is in the pressure of the source noise. 100 dB reduced to 66 dB results in sound getting to your ears roughly the same as a vacuum cleaner - tolerable but not really ideal. On the other hand, 75 dB reduced to 40 dB results in a sound level roughly equivalent to a quiet room. The decibel scale is logarithmic and 40 dB is only 1/8 as loud as 75 dB.

  14. All my saws are husqvarna but I stayed away from their blower, that's just not something they are known for and prob for a reason. I have the big echo backpack blower and my neighbor has the stihl Br600. Not sure what the specs are but its definitely noticeable that mine is more powerful. I can blow a brick down the driveway and I'll even blow the snow off my drive in the winter. also if I remember right echo is 2 stroke vs stihl 4 stroke which I believe are less powerful. I know stihl puts a smaller reducer on the end of the blower to make up for it and it channels the air to make it blow harder which is where they get their cfm rating . the narrow stream of air doesn't move big piles of leaves as well tho.

  16. Depends on the muffs. Some of the guys at my job use electronic muffs that block out very loud sound but still let the user hear somebody talking. I, like @khariV don't work without some protection for eyes and ears but I've got my money invested in tools and not so much in advanced protection

  18. thing about advancement with technology is it changes all the time, companies take huge advantages of this.....this year the flex 3 yrs from now it will be the ultra or the mega or the tecflow whatever name they come up with .....it will be bigger better faster or in some cases small lighter stronger......one way or another they will be presenting it to you like they just re-invented the wheel......some of these things will be spot on others might be a hit and a miss......Companies take chances as well sell sell sell....you can't sell something with no new news.......I'm sure there are tools you own that will last a lot longer than you keep them.....

  21. I was not too excited about the Flexvolt line and was not going to jump in. What I like about DeWalt is I can buy them all most any where. They have great promo at most online retailers and big box stores. When CPO and others offered a free tool with purchase....I jumped in to Flexvolt with both feet. All said and done I will have 6 new tools, batteries and 3 chargers, for about $1100. I can use the Flexvolt batteries in my 20 volt tools and now no need to buy any 5 amp batteries. Did I need them....no, but after watching all the reviews had to have them. It is taking longer to get them then hoped for but a couple months from now it will all be forgotten. When I use those free impacts I received, I will be grinning ear to ear. [emoji481] @ToughToolReviews on Instragram

  22. Not a tool, but I got this guy in today and another one with charger and battery coming tomorrow. I never thought I would say this, but I'm now in the Milwaukee 12v line...prices were too good to pass up though. I'm giving this one to my old man and keeping the other one for myself. 28. Yeah the one thing I wish DeWalt had was a protective boot for their impact wrench. Mine is beat. It doesn't have scuffs and scratches, it has chunks missing on the aluminum front housing. Still works like a champ and that's all that matters.
