  1. found this interesting work light on quirky, i may give it a try, new customers receive 20% with email signup. https://www.quirky.com/shop/704-powershell-folding-work-light#. i wanted to know the amperage rating, but im sure it will be fine for small tools, like a multi tool and such.
  2. the toolnut deal is crazy, get the combo deal with the monster new brushless hammer drill, with new 4.0 ah batteries and a free 36v tool? i just bought a new makita kit that replaced an aging 8 yr old lxt kit, i wanted the brushless kit, do i sell the kit i just got? maybe just to have the most awesome makita tools and be set for a long time.
  3. cool deal, i love my 25ft red tape measure, best one i think i ever owned, that magnet is just beautiful, helped me on some unique work situations.
  4. i really hate to stop by my stores, gonna be broke when i leave.
  5. id get it if you dont have one already, if you need a basic multitool to add to whatever kit is lacking, i personally have 4 leathermans, OHT, 2 x Charge, and a wave, good stuff that holds up to their uses. my favorite is the OHT, its hard to go back to nonspring loaded pliers.
  6. i think we need a tool fight!
  7. sounds good, ive been tempted to jump on the new brushless kits, even though i dont need them, those kits come with the 4.0 ah battery, but the deals are almost too tempting to pass up. even the the older 3.0 ah batteries are going dirt cheap right now. a sign of new stuff to come soon.
  8. Yes online is preferred, stainless steel would be nice, I had some for a while and now run out but don't remember the brand. But the tip was slotted with a sharp tip which made easy one handed toe nailing boards. I can only get cheap pos Philips head screws which piss me off to no end, who wants to deal with stripped and broken screws all day long.
  9. Solid concrete is rare but when encountered is rather thin 6" or less, 90% of time when I need to drill over 2" hole it seems its just standard cinderblock and any powerful drill that can power tungsten carbide hole saws will do the job, small rotary hammers have been able you do this, only needed the extra power when the rare instance of old buildings with tougher cinder block or concrete filled cinder block. So I'm thinking the new 36v cordless models would up to the task and its not like I would be drilling all day, usually less than 4 holes in a work day.
  10. I've had one for a while now and really like it, rarely leaves my impact driver, the one I had come with a locking ring that really gripped the notch on dewalt bits, which is awesome for heavy impact uses, bad for when you want to change bits constantly, I have 2, one I left the ring in, the 2nd one I removed the locking ring to make it easy to change bits, the magnet is strong enough for most uses.
  11. I'm looking for new set of wrenches, ratcheting sounds good, something universal less tools in the bag helps, anything like that exist? Any recommendations help.
  12. I'm on the look out for some square drive screws in the common sizes, 1" - 3" at least 1 lb but would like more. My local stores don't sell them, so trying to find the best place to get them, for framing I can't go back to using anything else.
  13. Anyone have any experience with cordless rotary hammers and the capabilities of them vs corded. I've used large 1 5/8 spline drive from Hitachi that worked good and but they are heavy and difficult to use to when on a ladder in odd place so the new cordless stuff looks interesting, I intend to use them for the occasional core drilling for conduit pathways, so common electrical sizes, 1/2" up to 4 1/2", with standard wall thickness for cinder block and concrete. I'm very tempted on the makita deal at toolnut where you get the free tool, was eyeing the 36v 1" cordless rotary hammer and wondering if that was good enough for what I wanted to do. Jared
  14. I seen this ebay deal last week on th TIA front page and had to jump on it, for $100 can't go wrong right? Its a manufacturer refurbished kit from black and decker, its standard brushed drill kit, but overall im extremely impressed with this kit, i initially bought several kits to give out to people who needed some decent tools on the cheap but may end up keeping one for myself and i got to say this easily the best drills for the money. ive used all the major brands to some extent, newer stuff within the last few years. my platform of choice is the makita lxt kits. side by side to the makita lxt 18v impact and 1/2 hammer drill, the porter cable kit easily performs just as well and in one case a little better, the impact driver actually drove screws faster than my makita lxt impact driver. driving 3 inch screws into some scrap fir 2x6 pieces. id say at least 1-2 secs faster. the 1/2 drill being a drill driver, no hammer function was solid performer, everyhting some spade bits, large auger bits, masonry bits, all at least 1/2" larger, it held up nicely compared to my makita. the drills have nice features such as battery gauge, magnetic bit holder on top to hold 2 bits, led light, changable belt hanger. the build quality was nice, lots of over molding protection, decent grip. batteries are compact 1.5ah capacity, held up ok, as much as you would expect for the size. charging time was stated at 30 mins and this was about right, it charged quick from completely dead. overall if you were looking to save some cash and get a nice drill kit, this would be one to take a look at first. normal price range is $150-175 from places like lowes and cpo outlet. but i paid $96 for this kit, refurb from ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271643761801?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  15. not sure if something is wrong with the site, but i go to add the kit with the free tool and total adds to $750? not exactly free!
  16. i would have my xd45 first, then when out of ammo, stanley fatmax fubar, ive modified mine like this one. http://www.itstactical.com/intellicom/diy/diy-fatmax-breaching-tool-for-first-responders-sar-and-zombies/
  17. CRKT m16 user here, comes in various sizes, styles, blade shapes, overall still enjoying mine.
  18. I dunno about those, i never had a chance to use anything but the standard stuff you find on job sites. Louisville ladders is what i own, standard a frame and extension ladders. sometimes it would be nice to have something to get in odd places. wanting to get a real opinion on those little giant ladders but those damn infomercials are just horrible lol
  19. I run a tech support business and do lots of field technician work and work with everything, from computer software to low voltage cabling, you name it, if runs off a computer you bet i support them and the infrastructure. Im very much a jack of all trades when in it comes to technology, with that said, im a real tool nut, if i can find something that makes my work quicker i will get it. I have a lot of construction and woodworking and general tool know how i learned since i was a kid. I use all kinds of tools in my daily work, specialty IT cabling tools to termination equipment to big power tools. There are days when im working out software problems then the next im recabling security and network cables which sometimes involve core drilling. So i do a lot of what an electrician does minus the high voltage stuff plus a lot more. but also spend lots of time just fixing anything electronic. its fun work, never the same stuff, always a challenge and always a reason to buy a new tool!
  20. Springfield XD 45 and Leatherman OHT
  21. i was surprised today, i needed to do a lot of framing today and my large 5 gallon compressor regulator gave out and ended up using a small 1.5 gallon .5 hp craftsman compressor i use for small stuff like air blowing and the like, this thing performed amazingly well with a large framing nailer, so i wouldnt disregard the small compressors for almost any task thats not high cfm like cutting/grinding.
  22. thanks guys, i ended up with getting a new LXT 3 piece kit from home depot, saw it on the main page of the TIA site when i came here, $232 shipped! too good of deal to pass up! http://www.homedepot.com/p/Makita-18-Volt-LXT-Lithium-Ion-Cordless-Combo-Kit-3-Tool-LXT319/203437807?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053
  23. hey everyone, first time on the forums, i could use some advice, im looking into getting a new cordless setup, I currently have a makita lxt system, with the impact driver and 1/2 hammer drill, with the 3.0ah batteries, now this setup has served me beyond expections, now i do have some reservations for anything but makita because of this, this setup i have its been running over 7+ years flawlessly, original batteries, charger, never had to send back for repair, its been through hell and back and still gets the job, done, with battery performance that is still acceptable. now only reason i wish to upgrade is that i see a lot new designs with some improvement namely in battery technology and brushless motors. with that said, what would be some good replacements? Thanks, Jared
