  1. The shipping clip is supposed to be a physical disconnect but doesn't look like it actually disconnects anything so the connection must be initiated by the tool. Wrap foil on your probe tips to stick it where it won't fit.
  2. I recall someone did a video on torque loss using adapters a while back. Something like 10% torque loss with adapters but there was something like 5% difference between control tests that made the results questionable. From my experience it's not a big deal in most cases. The problem is sometimes you get weird harmonics where the adapter springing back effectively cancels out the impact. I'm not sure why you're having problems with the M12 ratchet though because that doesn't impact so there should be no torque loss with adapters.
  3. I think it's the same people underwhelmed by both. At least I am. One-key feels almost like they intend to have DLC but that's a story for another thread. Anyway to each his own.
  4. Hey at least it has less vibration than makita's 10 year old gen 1 impulse driver...unlike ridgid. I'm with you underwhelmed guys. It didn't deserve the hype of simultaneous announcements from every tool reviewer. That said its 3/4 the price of makita and might go down to half with sales in a month.
  5. My home depot has them. Heres the link so you can check yours. http://m.homedepot.com/p/Diablo-7-1-4-in-x-24-Teeth-Tracking-Point-Framing-Saw-Blade-D0724R/100008676 Also some old demo blades have the tracking points even though its not marked on the blade. A pack of blades I bought ~4 years ago had them.
  6. I just want the SDS drills to come out... with dust collection! By the way... not jeffmcmillan
  7. There are a lot of sellers on ebay that resell NAINA items. Typically you're just sacrificing the warranty.
  8. This isn't with a dust collector, but I doubt it would make enough difference to be worth the hassle of getting it to work with a cordless saw.
  9. I guess I'll pick one up and regrind it. Worth a shot for $10. Try one of these for the times you need to bang on a pry bar. I even use mine to hammer on other pry bars from time to time.
  10. I think quality of a lot of these has gone down, because I was going to pick up a set at home depot and not a single one had a decent grind. Do you have an older set? I wouldn't have a problem grinding a new one, but the lack of a decent factory grind tends to indicate cheap steel.
  11. Is it this kind? Hard to say if they have much power normally because the last time I tried one I think the batteries were on the way out. It seemed to be in the range of newer 3.6V/4V screwdrivers and definitely less than the 8V ones, but still almost as bulky as an 18V. There are much better options out there with some pretty cheap modern 12V tools that are more compact and powerful.
  12. I haven't seen the Milwaukee steelhead ones available anywhere yet, but there's a Ridgid version that looks identical (down to the arbor knockout) from home depot already plus a lenox equivalent on amazon. Has anyone tried these? I'm really hopeful that these handle wood ok so you don't have the fire risk of cutting metal flush with wood.
  13. Screw that. I want an LED in the bit.
  14. Sounds like the motor is burnt out but the brushless controller should have overload protection to prevent that. Can you spin the motor by hand when its assembled or is something catching?
  15. That was almost certainly custom ground by your father or whoever he got it from. I can't think of any brand of flatbars that was painted red anyway. I actually haven't seen a flatbar that was ground with anything better than a rough 45 degree bevel and nothing close to sharp unless it's done by hand. Just pick something with good steel and go at it with a grinder or file. You probably want a belt grinder or sander for that long bevel though.
  16. Leave it to Knarly to find a situation where one-key is practically required. Looks like you need bucking spikes more than one-key.
  17. Do I really need a 60V volt drill when a decade old budget level XRP drill can run a 4" spiral mixer in concrete on speed 2 or 6" spiral mixer on speed 1?

Part of prices coming down is production scale. People buy new tools instead of keeping the same ones for centuries. Money goes into development making the old tools obsolete so people buy more. Only thing that bothers me is when they appear to intentionally "leave room for growth" in a tool so they can make it obsolete with a new model next year but it's a small price to pay.
  19. This. Just make the trigger control speed instead of power. That's all I really want.
  20. They're selling a sawzall and two batteries with a grinder, circ saw, hole hawg, or impact wrench so I would say that is the price drop. If you don't bother with settings on the impact the one-key sawzall will almost certainly be lost on you. The main features are just soft start, speed control, and auto stop when you finish a cut--far less than the impact--so it will probably be lost on you. Edit: Looks like the onekey sawzall is already up on home depot http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M18-18-Volt-FUEL-Lithium-Ion-Brushless-Cordless-Sawzall-Reciprocating-Saw-with-ONE-KEY-Tool-Only-2721-20/300185284
  21. More likely they stopped doing business with a certain supplier. I'm glad they waited though because I've seen the results of just shipping with a component that didn't meet specs and reduces performance. Doesn't work out in the long run.
  22. Just to save hassle, first check if there's a burr on the edge of one of the detents. It's a lot more likely that a burr wasn't knocked off than the machining was bad. Otherwise I would agree just swap it for a new one. I say this because I've never seen this problem unless some crud is stuck in the detents.
  23. Just wait. One day she'll have nicer tools than you.
  24. I have no doubt timber workers can find a use for it. These are the guys who have chainsaw discs on their angle grinders we're talking about lol Thats really disappointing about the clutch. These tools really need acceleration sensing like bosch drills. Seems like they have a patent though since its in half their tools and no one elses.
  25. Not many people think through what tools they need as well as you knarlycarl.
