  1. I bet they weren't cut with a table saw
  2. I'd be interested to see them side by side
  3. No idea about the cordless. Anybody else notice a couple of similarities in the Walter's and Milwaukee grinders?
  4. Today I bought the worst kind of tools. Well, the worst kind to use anyway. My digging tool selection is pretty dated and consists mostly of stuff older than me that was given to me years ago. Plus I found my hoe and the only round point shovel I had was laying over the hill all winter from one of Conductor Jr's excavation projects. I was gonna pick up a new mattock, but they were out of the Razorbacks, so I decided to wait. Also, if you guys haven't tried it yet, the 3M Pro Grade Precision sandpaper is fantastic for hand or block applications. Probably the best I've ever used. Got a rubber backing that's far better than paper backed and it does last forever. It's all I'll buy from now on.
  5. As mentioned before, if you haven't done it recently, I would check your miter saw for accuracy before starting your trim project and calibrate if need be. Small errors can show up big in a trim project.
  6. What about the smaller Ridgid job box? http://m.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-32-in-x-19-in-Portable-Storage-Chest-2032-OS/100189569 It's 32x19 and weighs 77 lbs. empty, so you won't be throwing it anywhere,
  7. I like that it has the lip for mating up to the end of the bench. That's a nice feature. My 8" Colombian is a swivel base, but I find that to be a seldom useful feature on a mammoth vise
  8. Here's another gem. I was finishing up the trim in my daughter's bathroom and encountered this: That's no optical illusion. It's a 79 degree angle. I've seen off corners, but this was way the hell off. Made a 39.5 degree miter. I felt dirty even cutting it. It looks surprisingly less awful when finished, but I'll always know it's there ☹️
  9. Here's an early 1/4" blunder piece. As you can see, I got a little better as I went. I was tempted to order a scroll saw, but I got by with a 1/8" bandsaw blade
  10. I'll just chalk this up to a learning experience
  11. Lotta help now ? I got the original few when my wife's family shut their lumber yard down. I was over there picking up other shit and figured they were close enough to her Pinterest find to meet her approval. Problem was that I needed 12 and they only had 5 left (one of which I broke). The first ones I cut out I did in 1/4" before I realized it was actually 3/8" ? I couldnt find 3/8" ply at either big box, so I planed down a 1x12 and went from there. So I had a bit of practice by the time I made the ones pictured. Definitely not my first attempt
  12. Sweet! There are some Grizzly machines in my future as well
  13. Awesome! That's a real gem. How wide are the jaws?
  14. Thanks man. I had a 4 or 5 of them and I used one as a template to make the rest. She found something similar on Pinterest and even though these aren't exactly what she found they'll have to be close enough. I'd never done a staircase before this one as I came to learn, most other people hadn't either. I had a guy come to help me who had supposedly done them before, but he had less of a clue than I did. It didn't turn out too bad. I wanted to bring the bottom step out enough to do a squirrel cage, but it just wasn't in the cards
  15. As some of you guys may remember, my house was built by idiots and occupied previously by idiots as well. I've been working on redoing it since we moved in and finally after several idle months, I feel well enough to get back to business. Today was a beautiful day, work was slow, and it felt pretty damn good to have the saws out and making a mess. The staircase was interesting. Everything about it was done wrong. I went down to the bare stringers, and even they looked like they were cut by blind children. Mrs. Conductor wanted these deco pieces she found on Pinterest rather than a traditional skit board. Got them cut out, painted, and today I started the install. Tomorrow I will finish filing gaps and maybe get as far as paint. The bandsaw has already covered the money I have in it. And yes, this foyer was at one time pepto pink in it entirety ?
  16. FWIW, Metabo is (and as far as I know is still) making Ridgid's grinders.
  17. Can't comment on the planer, but that grinder is pretty sweet looking. I have an 8" Ryobi grinder that's remarkably similar to that AEG and it been pretty good.
  18. That is cool. I never need a bottle opener really, but that is a sweet variation. I prefer colored squares because they are easier to read. If your square was black or red it might be a perfect specimen
  19. Those might be the nicest looking speed squares I have ever laid eyes on. I really like that it has the pencil notches like a Swanson. My shitty Empire 7" square doesn't have them. However, I think the Johnson "Johnny Square" might be the best design. It's black, which is cool, but it also has pencil notches the full length similar to the 12" Dewalt, which I flind to be very useful.
  20. Here's a nice TiN coated Milwaukee set. Same one I have. I gotta agree with Chris though, that Makita set is sweeeeet, plus I like things that match.
  21. I would have to assume it would. Slippery slope because once you go black........?
  22. @Grumpy MSG: That makes sense, but I'm still miffed that the markings are that far off. They can make it however long they like, but you'd still expect the markings to be right. So the fence is done, the tray and resaw guide arrived, and after a couple weeks of fiddling, tuning, cleaning, and polishing, I've done all I'm going to do to it. Despite the simplicity, it was an unusually fun project. Before I threw in the towel, I did take a few minutes to put a coat leftover Delta blue paint on the raised logo on the top door. Kinda gave the project a nice finishing touch IMO. Never seen one done like that, but I thought it looked kinda cool.
  23. ? Funny timing. We ordered Chinese for dinner tonight. We order from them a couple times a month. If we tell them we'll pick it up at 5:30 they will call you at 5:32 wondering where you are. If you show up at 5:28 they will comment that you are early. She literally called me 3 minutes after the pick up time and said "Where you be?" They have about 6 kids that all have to hang out in the lobby from the time school lets out until close. When you pull in, they pick up all their shit and run into the back, and as soon as you leave, they all come back. Certain menu items literally say "No MSG best health for you body" I love these people.
  24. Sometimes you sound like a real New Englander and other times you sound like a normal person ? Seriously though, looks like your making good progress and more importantly, having a great time doing it.
  25. It was the Grizzly combo square set: Nice set for $36 bucks. I just couldn't stomach $250 for a Starrett. http://www.grizzly.com/products/4-pc-Combination-Square-12-/G5726?utm_campaign=zPage&utm_source=grizzly.com
