  1. Today I got the new crown up. What pain in the ass. 18' ceiling in the foyer. I made corner boxes which not only look nicer, but made the process a lot easier. Poor bastard in the pick is a neighbor. It was a bad week for him to be off all week on spring break. In exchange for his help, I'm going to make his wife a couple of end tables. I decided last minute to go across the front of the fireplace. The old crown skipped this step and terminated on each end of the brick. These ended up being the only miter+bevel cuts I had to make. I'm glad I went this route as in the end, it really gave the room an extra touch of class. I don't have any before pics, but it's amazing what a difference a little extra effort made.
  2. That's the same base I put on my bandsaw. I'm happy with it. It's worth every penny to be able to move it at will.
  3. It's a good thing I can't get in the back door anymore. Tugnut's member title would be Dumbass ?
  4. I got on a kick a couple weeks ago and watched several reviews on the two. Performance wise they seemed to be pretty much equal. Most preferred the Dewalt for trimming and the Milwaukee for edging because of the unusual head design of the Dewalt, but both seemed to be well received.
  5. Smashed a knuckle with a 20 oz. framer today. F$&king bee hit me in the nose mid swing ? The bees, wasp, and yellow jackets are awful this year!
  6. Do you live in a town, a city or a rural area? Something Like Lake Country Woodcraft maybe? ?
  7. I know how it feels when life starts to get the best of you. Hope everything pans out and certainly glad to see you back!
  8. Dude, as much shit as you're restoring, you seriously need to look into one of those buffer/polishers we were talking about.
  9. Well I'll be damned. It's an E.C. Simmons product to boot.
  10. I could see certain situations where these would shine. Cutting pipe being one of them. It's hard on blades, is usually a pretty straightaway cut, and renders the rear section of the blade useless while the front is untouched.
  11. Today I spent a little money on a tool of a different kind. Conductor Jr. outgrew his old bat I bought him 2 years ago. He wanted a new bat last year, but the other 2 needed new bats more than him and I couldn't afford 3 bats, so I promised him if he'd use his old one again, I'd buy him the best bat money could buy next year knowing I'd only be buying one. Well, it's next year and he wasn't about to let me forget it. It's amazing how a kid remembers an offhand comment on some idle Monday a year ago, but they can't remember to turn a light off despite you telling them 15 times a day. I took him to the local sporting goods shop and he informed them he wanted "the best bat in the world" ? They measured him up, had him swing some bats with a swing analyzer attached to them, and a little over $200 later we walked out with an Easton Mako Beast. I absolutely dreaded the drive home. I don't think I've ever seen him so excited about anything, but I was more concerned about how "excited" Mrs. Conductor was going to be. She was kinda pissed, but hey, a promise to your kid is a promise to your kid. He's a strong hitter, and a bat like this could deliver his first Homerun.
  12. Hard to tell from the pic, but this is actually the model without the disc.
  13. I'm really digging this flag. I have a West Virginia flag for WV Day (June 20th), and a POW MIA flag for Memorial Day. Also found an app the sends out alerts when it's supposed to be at half mast. Having a brother that's a cop, I may get a thin blue line flag for those unfortunate occasions too.
  14. I'm pretty sure that's what they're talking about. Old Ice Boxes are popular around here, and White Mountain Grand is one of the better known brands. I didn't pay any attention at first because I was looking for a white colored box.
  15. Keep your eyes open at HD. They have them on sale all the time. They had the 2 for $14.99 deal when I was there a couple days ago. You could probably get one cheaper than I could ship you one. I need to to grab a couple 16's really. For most of my project a 16' would be ideal and much less weight
  16. Anybody got one of these? You can get the same sander from Grizzly, HF, and several others. Reviews are all over the place. Some tout is as a great little sander, others call it a cheap piece of shit. Just curious if any of you guys have this style. I don't use one all the time. It'll be mostly for sharpening and shaping stuff where I need a little flexibility that my 4" Belt/5" disc combo doesn't have. Most run around $75, so not a huge gamble.
  17. Wow, those look great. You better poly or lacquer those tops or the won't look nice for long.
  18. I do the same shit only I have a laminator. Black Friday yielded one for next to nothing. I lost the drill & tap chart for my Mac kit, so I just made my own. Also made a Norseman version I keep taped inside the lid of my box.
  19. Now that is a slick idea!
  20. I've been looking for 15 minutes for a "White Clad" box. I came to the conclusion you're talking about that oak chest? Isn't it White Mountain Grand?
  21. Here's how I'd like to remove it: Unless you're in Cali or Maryland and you've got $1600, you can be the coolest guy I know. http://www.popularmechanics.com/military/weapons/a16651/x15-flamethrower-consumer-flame-thrower/ Wonder if I could write that off on my taxes?
  22. Tough they were. I knocked a brushed Milwaukee impact off a roof a couple years ago and killed it. I took it apart and found the service field (magnetic ring) was in 3 or 4 pieces. Found one for $20 at ereplacementparts and fixed it. It worked long enough for some crackhead to steal it and brand new XC battery. There's a thread on here somewhere documenting the repair.
  23. I love it when someone I haven't talked to in 5 years calls me up out of the blue, bullshits about nothing for 5 minutes, then asks if I have a particular tool or skill. A tried and true tactic is to have their wife call my wife. More or less saying "hey girl, miss you and the kids. You guys should come out to the house Sunday and have Conductor bring his tile saw and a trowel" ? I get drafted into lots of pro bono tile and trim work this way. My blast cabinet seems to find a lot of charity work too, though I'm about to lay that worthless piece of shit on the Railroad tracks and wait for a choo choo to put it out of it's misery.
  24. I have one Ni-Cad Dewalt tool left. A little 9V Drill/Driver I got when I was 15 or 16. I have no battery for it, but it was my very first power tool, so I hung onto it.
  25. Mostly edge joining for making table tops. Hence how I was able to get by with the HF piece of shit. Occasionally face frames for a hutch or something, but I got in the habit of using pocket holes because my joiner was such junk. I'm hoping having a nicer joiner will enable me to use more concealed joints.
