  1. Do the type of capable makers that use quality table saws really replace them when the table gets rusted?
  2. We've all seen the wimpy 18V version posted on here, but......
  3. It's practically New Old Stock. He bought it around 1996-97, used it for about 6 months, and literally never fooled with it again. I'm guessing the trunions got busted when it was moved to storage. Other than that, it was in awesome shape aside from the table, and after sanding and waxing, it's smooth as glass.
  4. I looked at bandsaw fences for what seemed like days! There were some pretty nice fences available, but most were pretty high rent for a 20 year old Delta. I didn't want to get into it to the point where if the motor went, I'd be into it more than I could have bought a new saw for. Looked at some mag fences, but I just don't like the idea of not having a scale. The Kreg seemed like a good fit. It has good reviews, didn't break the bank, and is a direct bolt on for this model, so no drilling and tapping. I'm also fond of Kreg products, so I went with it. My previous unit was a little 9" Delta BS100 I got used back when I was in a single car garage. It was fine for little shit, but now that I have space for a bigger unit, it just feels like more a pain in the ass to drag out and set up than it's worth. It'll be nice to just flip it on, make my cuts, and shut it off.
  5. Well, kinda. Dad bought this Delta 28-276 back in the mid-90's. Didn't use it much, and eventually it got moved into storage and forgotten about. He's tried to get me to take it forever, but I just never got around to it. A couple weeks ago I finally dug it out to have a look. The belt was missing, which I knew, but the ridiculously shitty trunions were busted to the point the table was about to fall off. Table was a solid sheet of rust ? So I sanded the table down starting with 220 and working all the way up to 2000 grit, ordered a link belt at Comp's suggestion ($23), found some upgraded trunions ($35). Once I got it running and played around with it, I was actually surprised how well it did. Great cuts, smooth, and not very loud either. I liked it well enough that I ordered a HTC Mobile base ($60), and a Kreg Fence ($107), because for some reason that is totally lost on me, the 28-276 was sold without a fence or miter gauge. So the free bandsaw ended up being a $225 investment, but it's hard to bitch. It's still less than half of what a comparable bandsaw would have cost me to buy and I can finally quit fooling around with the little bench top model that I hate. Once the fence and mobile base arrive, I'll be in business.
  6. I've seen some makeshift set ups like that on YouTube, though none heated with a heat gun. This is is the oven I like. It can be built for $1000 or less, but I'm not sure I have the sheet metal skill to make it look this nice. This same outfit sells these on eBay for like $2500, but I'd have to pick it up in Iowa. I've got enough skills, and know enough guys better than I, that I could get this made myself.
  7. Eastwood offers their original gun for like $79 and a dual voltage (for better performance in recesses) for around $100. HF and Grizzly offer set ups as well. HF is the cheapest, but we know why that usually is. You could use use any old oven you're willing to dedicate for that purpose, and therein lies my problem. I'd like to have a big enough oven to be able to do ATV and Motorcycle frames, so an old household oven won't work. I could get Eastwood's little oven for small parts, but I'd have to build my own big oven, well, either that or cough up $3,000 and a trip to Iowa or somewhere. Theres a really nice how to on YouTube, but until I redo my shop I just don't have the space which has caused me to put off getting one until I can set it up the way I want. The metallic PCoats would be especially nice to do, especially for resto stuff.
  8. I ended up buying a buffing kit from Eastwood specifically for shit like this: http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-1hp-buff-motor-buffing-kit-and-stand.html I haven't used it enough to be good at it yet, but I have done a couple projects with it and had good results. I've considered their powder coating kit to do chrome and other metallics, but haven't made the jump yet. http://www.eastwood.com/dual-voltage-hotcoat-powder-gun.html http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-bench-top-powder-coating-oven.html?fee=7&fep=5682&SRCCODE=PLA00020&product_id=15635&adpos=1o1&creative=83580266340&device=m&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=Cj0KEQiAuonGBRCaotXoycysvIMBEiQAcxV0nLRAmPKEJ9Hvn8nVyST01W9-P6xAT7rD1cWqEOX2zX4aAt-v8P8HAQ
  9. Talk about something that will ruin your day. It's heartbreaking to open a tool shipment and see it's damaged. Hope Tool Barn makes it right
  10. ? I looked for that pic, but just couldn't find it. I'm sure as hell glad it wasn't lost in the vast recesses of the interweb. I mean, that picture is to TIA what the Marilyn Monroe issue is to Playboy. I get get that the Europino's are more socially evolved than us Murican's, but it's still hard to grasp that a company with the worldwide corporate girth of Bosch looked at these fudge packing britches and said "damn, blue color humanity needs a little of this in their life". I grew up in the 80's man! We had biker shorts, leg warmers, and jams (anybody remember jams?), and even I'm like "Jesus H. Christ those are gay!". You'll never live it down Chris, never! If We live to be 100 I'll still be talking about your Bosch Capri pants.
  11. I think ChrisK has a pair of the Bosch Capri pants. I know he used to ?
  12. Funny story. A few years ago I got her an hour massage. She and her mother went together and did 30 minutes instead. About a a month later the place got raided and they found cameras in the dressing room with video of a couple hundred women naked ? Needless to say, I still haven't lived the last massage down! The
  13. I've never flat out told someone they couldn't borrow a tool. I do it on a case by case basis. I have a couple of friends that could come borrow anything I've got. I know they have the skills to properly use them. They know how I treat my tools and they have enough respect for me to treat them the same. Some tools simply aren't worth damaging a friendship over. I'm not going to tell someone I like and respect they can't borrow a $100 or $200 tool. I'll take my chances that they have enough mutual respect for me to care for the tool and return it, and if they don't, $200 isn't going to break me. However, if a guy I know doesn't know jack shit about tools calls and wants my miter saw, table saw, planer, etc, I'm going to offer to go over and help him or have him bring it to me. I'll make excuses or whatever I have to do to ensure he gets the job done without actually borrowing the tool. But, there are some people I'm just not lending shit too. I'll start out offering to help, etc, but if it comes down to it, I'll just say no. There's one guy in particular that comes by 3 or 4 times a year wanting to borrow shit. Married into my family, so I had to put up with a little more. I don't particularly like him, I don't trust him with my tools. He started out looking for odd size 3/4" drive sockets and little shit that not everyone should have and wouldn't make sense to buy for one use. Fair enough I guess. Then he started asking for an angle grinder. I had an old Dewalt I wasn't particularly concerned with so I let him use it. He'd keep it a week or two, bring it back, then come get it again, and again. Borrowed it at least 6 times. I finally told him there was a difference in not having an odd ball tool and just being a cheap ass. He's stop and borrow basic shit constantly, shit every self respecting man should own. Fucker borrowed a circular saw! Doesn't own a saw....any saw! What kind of panty wearing excuse for a man doesn't own a saw of any kind? I put put up with it for awhile just to keep the peace, but when he stopped and wanted my welder and plasma cutter I just had to draw the line. I explained to him that I knew he didn't know jack shit about welding and cutting, I knew he didn't have 220V anywhere outside, and I knew he didn't have any way to deliver dry air to the plasma, unless of course he borrowed my dryer. He wasn't too upset about the plasma cutter, but kept on about the welder. He was planning on running it off his generator and admitted that he had only a very basic idea of how to weld and wanted to use mine to practice and see if he wanted to invest in one ? I told old him that if he wanted to come out to the house I'd be glad to give him a crash course, but he wasn't taking it home with him. That was last summer and I haven't heard from him since.
  14. @Jronman Surprising Mrs. Conductor is a nice thought, but seeing how she pretty much buys what she wants, and this year alone probably put the children of 2 Lularoe sellers through college, I'm gonna splurge. @rrich1 Selling my current blast cabinet is a good idea as well. Unfortunately the guilt of charging someone to take that piece of shit would compromise the basic integrity I have as a tool junkie and a human being. @rrmccabe I know you're right. It is a lot of space for something I'm not going to use all the time. I press bearings in a handful of times a year during race season. A small 6 Ton press would be sufficient for this, but a brake would help me justify going bigger.
  15. Spray it on, let it soak a few hours, and wipe it off. Do that about every 3-4 months. https://www.wd40specialist.com/products/corrosion-inhibitor/
  16. I ended up ordering the V-Link belt. Seemed like the best option. I can always use it to determine the size, get a standard belt, and keep the v link around for an emergency replacement. Thanks for for the tip Comp!
  17. So, thanks a payroll correction that Mrs. Conductor isn't completely aware of, I have around $1000 to blow. Now, like any of you guys, I could blow a grand on tools before my morning piss. There's seemingly no end to the tools I'd like to have, but seeing how I can make smaller purchases throughout the year, I figure I'd better take this opportunity to cross one of the bigger ticket items off my list and as always, I'd like to get the unfiltered input of the crew before deciding. Option 1: American Forge & Foundry 20 Ton Super Duty Shop press This is the sweetest 20T press I've ever seen. It's the same as the model offered by Redline , except it comes standard with the pin kit, includes a blast gate, and upgrades to a foot pedal instead of hand held operation. It's got a sweet set of arbor plates and the ram is movable from side to side. It's also about $100 cheaper than the Redline. I've already got plans with a buddy of mine to build a brake for it if I go this route. I was looking at the HF model, but then I saw this and it was game over. Option 2: Grizzly G0714 Industrial Blast Cabinet At 51-1/2"W x 69-1/2"H x 47"D, this is as big as I will probably ever want...err.....need, and certainly as big as I can make room for. Has a built in 1-1/2 HP dust collector, it's a front loader, and is everything my current HF piece of shit is not. At $1400 it would take an extra month to pull off, but I'm not in a terrible hurry. I use my HF blaster fairly frequently which posses 2 problems. A: I use it enough to want a better one, and B: Hate it or not, I already have one. There's no question I'd use the blast cabinet more than I'd use the press, but I have been wanting a press for a long time and kinda feel like I'd be crazy pass on it to simply upgrade a perfectly functional tool, even though it is a total pain in the ass to use. I like expanding the capabilities of my shop, and the press does more in that respect than a bigger better blaster. Whichever I don't get, I'll immediately start saving for the other, but what do you guys think?
  18. I farm out any cast welding I need done. Good friend of mine works in a welding/fab shop, so it's no big deal.
  19. Man, that grinder is sweet! Can't believe how flawless it is inside.
  20. Props to KC Tool for an awesome giveaway!
  21. Wherever he lives, it's apparently somewhere where 4.5" grinding discs aren't all that common ?
