  1. Some of the new Festools are Autoclean. I run a mini cyclone on my Festool CT and the bag never gets anything in it. Only downside is that I cant use the top as a systainer holder.
  2. First mow of the season. I would say they FAIL for having a phone conversation with the mower deck running. Engine running was not too bad.
  3. Looks great. Have to say I hate crown. Not the looks, but installing it !
  4. To be honest I rarely use a sawzall for anything but brush and trees
  5. Well there you have it. Dumb Ass Woodworking ! LOL
  6. John is fortunate enough to have a good City name and good last name for woodworking. In my opinion.

Dan and Eric mentioned these a while back and I ordered and took delivery on a par of the Pro series yesterday. I have to say I am impressed. I really was not looking for hearing protection but something that would allow me to mow on the tractor and catch emails and phone calls when they came in. The intent was to just shut off the tractor and take the call. However, these have active noise cancellation which filters out the background so I can hear music or person on the phone as well as filtering out the noise so they can hear me. They are quite comfortable, cut noise 27db and the noise canceling rocks. I have not been on the tractor yet but have talked to a couple friends and walked out into the shop and flipped on the table saw during the conversation and they heard a brief startup but then hardly anything. We was able to have a normal conversation while the saw was running. Flipped on the air compressor and same results. You can leave your phone in your pocket and using a button on earbud cord to answer the call and hangup. Pause music, FF/RW, Volume up/down. They are Bluetooth and last about 10 hours on a charge. USB rechargeable.
  8. You are not supposed to wire wheel your gloves. Skin will grow back.
  9. My two favorite tool mods are Festool related. The first is for the MFT/1080 table. The track flips up out of the way so you can lay your wood on the table. But this means you need to find a place to sit the saw first. So I made a clip (shiny black piece) that slides in the bottom rail extrusion and uses same bolt hole as the hinge. When the saw is slide forward it holds the saw to the track so you can flip the track up and saw stays. Not a great picture but this is a replacement label for my TS55 saw. The saw had two issues for me from the factory. First the label is in metric, and second the "0" mark is calibrated with the saw off the track. So you had to set the saw whatever depth cut you want plus 2 mm. to compensate for the track thickness. So I calculated the settings along the arc and created a label in CAD and started printing labels. So the label is in inches now but you can zero it when you install. Not only does my saw have one of these but 600 other people around the world. Also did router labels. Festool wised up on the newer REQ models and supplied a label in imperial with two scales for on/off track.
  10. I would avoid a lot of the Jorgensen and Bessey cheap F clamps. There are a lot of the Jorgensens being closed out right now and many are not worth having as the pressed on ball foot is crap. Sounds like you might be looking for a Bessey K style. I dont have the Jet clamps but most people say they like them better than the Bessey mostly because they way they release.
  11. The only downside is pad shape is optimized to work well for a lot of things. Because of that its not symmetrical and you cant rotate the sanding disc. If you are corner sanding or doing small stuff you wear out the front point. Be nice to get 3 new points. That said if it was a perfect triangle it would not work as well.
  12. I feel the same way. I bought this for corner sanding and it gets used for everything. http://www.festoolproducts.com/power-tools/festool-sanders/festool-201221-rts-400-req-orbital-sander.html
  13. To small to be of much value. I have a Jet that is a bench top model and its a couple sizes larger and its borderline too small. The disc portion needs to be about 12" or larger in my opinion.
  14. I cant speak for all the all the sanders but the Festool I bought works great and the dust collection is amazing. I have a couple nice Bosch sanders and would consider them equal in sanding abilities but not for dust. I will probably add another Festool sander in the future. Festool has over complicated their sander line so I am undecided. Sandpaper for that matter is just as confusing. Thanks for the info on the Black systainer. I did nto pay much attention to the Pro 5 as I was not sure it was a serious Festool product at the time.
  15. The problem with Great Lakes Woodworks (although I like it) is there is already a million of them. Quick Google search shows great lakes anything is widely used.
  16. Whats the deal with the black systainer? I am behind I guess.
  17. Where is it used? Does it have wiring in it?
  18. All good Ed. I think your initial reaction is common. I was not sure how to feel when I watched his first video. But in reality he is a pretty down to earth guy that has been collecting and upgrading for 38 years. He is out of my $$$ league and everyone I know for that matter. But he does seem like a good guy.
  19. A lot of his videos are using stuff that the average Joe can do. This one was crazy as far as bizarre methods. I agree there was no point in building that shelf the way he did. I think he was just showing how to use the technology. He is a domino guy has well, and mentioned in a video he has never made a traditional tenon after buying the Domino. When I watched the first video I thought it was some multi-millionaire with lots of toys but after you follow him for a while you realize he is just an average guy that probably goes without in other areas. But seriously where do you buy this stuff? Is there a Dubai Woodworkers catalog floating around?
  20. I don't think you need to fasten it down. I am going on 3 years with mine and I just screwed triangles to the top. They fit just inside the rubber feet on those angled corners.
  21. Looks great. I bench mounted my MFT too. Did you attach the MFT or put blocks in the corners to hold it?
  22. LOL, I cant say I like the stickers much either. However about 7 years ago I found out how many drawers you can open before tipping the toolbox over. It held up very well for what it went through but the drawers got dinged up pretty good. I like the stickers more than the dings. But I am 100% with you on the stickers. And as I said with my memory, I need stuff visible so I remember to use it.
  23. I understand the clutter comment. However, I go to great lengths to organize it so it does not look like clutter. Not to mention when everything has a custom built hanger it has a place and easier to put away and keep shop clean. I should think more about a Systainer for disc storage. Right now it would take several of them though as I have 5", 6" and triangle detail disc.
