Chris
A pneumatic etcher? Like a sand blaster? Do you have any pics of the etcher and the result of what it does? It sounds interesting, I am tempted to get one lol.Sent from my SGH-T999L using Tapatalk Similar to an electric etcher, they tend to be more powerful though. You can dig pretty deep into some steel with one.

NERemodeling
If your worried about being able to prove they are yours after stolen, the best idea is to open up the plastic case and engrave your name on the inside of the tool.. better chance the their won't see it and scratch it off
Justin Hernandez
Yea, but a cop would say I can't make him open it take it to court. Thieves have rights!!
khariV
and there is this http://www.nissenmarkers.com/product/ultraviolet/ I like this idea a lot. Do you think thieves look for UV markings? Maybe a combination of engraving in one spot and UV in another so that they think they've got it all when they grind off the engraving. WeldfabNeil
In trade school everyone laughed about a tool shouldn't be pink. Few days later I started marking all my hand tools with bright pink spray paint. I could see them across the room an no one wanted them. To this day I keep the color pink. My power tools I keep the serial numbers writen down an have pictures on my phone of all. I also spray a pink dot on them. When the paint wears down weather it be hand or power tool I just add more. snarf
Register your tools! If somebody steals them...http://professional-power-tool-guide.com/power-tool-forum/index.php?/topic/1376-stolen-equipment/?hl=stolenI wrote this for heavy equipment a while back but it applies to small equipment. My Festool too.s are all registered on Festools website where they offer a tool box so to speak with pertinent information. Bosch, Makita and Milwaukee all have similar benefits to joining their sites as does Dewalt. I'm sure others do too, I just know for a fact that these guys do. Don't use tape. Engraving is awesome. Make sure you take a "family photo" of your too.s in the event of theft or fire.Us DIY folks that keep all our tools in our garage or workshop at the casa don't have the problem with this that you trades guys have. However, my insurance agent recommends following the advice above whenever possible. He says that it helps to keep all of the info in one place (within reason anyways) where you can easily get it, and it lessens the chance of you entering the wrong serial since most of the ones that do this won't accept an invalid. Ryobi offers the same thing...register your tools there and it keeps up with what the tool is, the serial, the date purchased, etc. I just picked up a Rigid jig saw head for my multi-tool, and several pages in the box said to register it, so I expect they keep a database as well. If your manufacturer offers this, be sure you take advantage of it.
Nalu Rash
You all have some great ideas! I especially like the UV light pen. I usually just right my name on all my tools with a Silver Metallic Sharpie, Inkzall, White Paint Pen or even Spray Paint.
