optimistspencer Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 Graphic images... ObviouslyWell, at the beginning of summer break U had a little accident in the workshop that ended up with a 911 call and about a month in a splint. It's a long story, filled with bad ideas and mistakes, but luckily they managed to save everything and having health insurance meant it cost the family fairly little. anyway, if anyone has questions, I'm totally OK with being a safety advocate on the forum... Believe me, you never think it'll happen to you until it does.Today, it is just about fully healed, just need to let it round out and have the nail grow back.Sent from my One M8 using Tapatalk 1

WigWagWorkshop Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 I missed what actually happened, but happy your recovering. Honestly, Im always a little afraid every time I fire up my power cutting tools. -Steven
kruton Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 Wow man, looks like you are lucky they could reattch. My dad cut his thumb off with a skil saw and they couldn't find it so they just had to sew it up. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
PeteW Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 damn that was really graphic, but still kinda cool. glad your okay and it wasn't more serious.
Hugh Jass Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 My worst on site injury wasn't nearly that bad but just as sucky. Put a #2 philips through my thumbnail. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_RJEKjFfB8XUXQyUkUwRzA0M3M/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_RJEKjFfB8XR3JQeHp0NW1uNTQ/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_RJEKjFfB8Xc3Ftc01LYjBGa3c/view?usp=sharing Doctor broke 3 pairs of reinforced forceps trying to get it out. It was pretty awful.

So I take it your not a fan of Makita bits anymore..lol Ha, thanks for the support! Power jointers are mean, mean tools.Sent from my One M8 using TapatalkI bet that hurt
Hugh Jass Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 It would have been simple to pull out if not for the shape of Makita's bits. The skinny shank let my busted fingernail close in around it which is why it was so hard to get out. Had it been normal I would have pulled it out myself, but I couldn't. It was a one way street.

You should have used a hammer and smacked it through.j/k Did you put a lot of pressure on the drill and it fell of the screw and hit your nail?? I watched my Uncle do that and there was a lot of blood but it didn't go through the nail.

Yea I was on a ladder driving screws through drop ceiling framing, the wall material changed from drywall to densglass, so I had all my weight on the impact with my hand about a foot away on the wall. As the screw penetrated the metal it kicked sideways which left my wide open drill going straight for my thumb. Good times.

Nordraw Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 That is some serious gross dude. What did you do? Let us know so we can avoid something like that. Wow.

Hugh Jass Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 That sucks, how long did it take to heal?? Still not right. Been 2 years. My nail only stays glued down to my finger about half way out before it lifts just a little, and the under side is clearly not normal, a bit too thick. Nail bed is probably permanently damaged, which is that bit of meat that's hanging out of the hole on the one picture.
