The 888 is mediocre. Had one and sold it. It doesn't compare well to the Fuel line at all. Fuel impact wrenches are still where it's at for performance I feel.

It's "direct drive" and supposedly has 33% more max output than the FlexVolt sidewinder...it should haul ass.

Today's it man. I am a bit underwhelmed as well. The best stuff leaked early. Rear handle saw, mower, and possibly compressor are on my wish list, most other stuff either didn't wow me or made me angry (retcon on the rafter hooks! lol, but that's me being selfish.) otherwise it feels like we saw everything bedore. Happy to see a toughsystem drawer unit that doesn't suck.

Makes the single speed M18 Fuel look archaic.

Dewalt screwing over early adopters...imagine that. The FlexVolt sidewinder is also getting updated.

If the improvement for this saw off of the 7491 is the same refinement that the DHS790 has over the 780 it's hard to imagine anyone being disappointed ??

Table saw supposedly is getting bumped to a 10" 120v max hybrid solution. I'd be shocked if we don't see it revealed next month. Supposedly based on the DWE7491RS.

The Fuel guns use a sealed nitrogen canister, to the best of my knowledge. Not a replaceable gas canister like Paslode, maybe thats where the confusion is coming from, but they sure as hell aren't flywheel tech like Dewalt's.

Yep, I've said many times table saws are likely the most dangerous and intimidating tools in the shop. Making one more rickety doesn't seem very innovative and seems like it could disrupt the way your appendages are attached to your body.

Not yet, still undecided on this vs a corded Festool. Or, if I win the lottery, a cordless Festool lol though I hear that has less power than the corded version despite two batteries.

FlexVolt blades are amongst the thinnest kerf you'll find anywhere though. Some CMT ITK is similar but both are thinner than the 3/32 that most thin kerf are.

Interesting. Hadn't seen that kit, only the DCS520T1 kit, which doesn't have the track.

No, because there are ten cells to draw from. If there were only 5 to draw from, then you'd have shorter pack life and more overheating warnings if you used the compact on various types of saw or grinder. As for brands of cells, most manufacturers use multiple brands; depends on who they get the latest batch from for the best price and who can keep up with demand. Samsung, LG, Sony, etc.

The lever is perfect @Framer joe, I'm saying reading the scale on the depth adjustment sucks. I adjust it the way you describe ??. My main complaint is the legibility of the scale on the shoe of the saw and the friction of the shoe itself.

@M1Deuce how would you propose that? The Makita uses 3 18650 sized lithium ion cells for 10.8v nominal voltage. The M18 is 66% larger just based on the fact it uses 5 18650 cells. The M12 puts those same 3 cells as the Makita in the grip of the tool, leading to no base under the handle but a fat grip. The Surge is a fairly weak tool (realistically specialized might be a better description) so either power suffers or runtime suffers tremendously; the housing and mechanism of the tool remain the same size but the handle changes slightly. I don't suspect there is a large market for that tool but maybe 2018 will show otherwise.

I will say that I hope the rear-handle has a different shoe than the DCS575. The FlexVolt sidewinder is my favorite saw, but it's not perfect. It feels like there's more friction to the shoe than I've experienced with other saws. Also, while the dark color of the shoe looks badass, in low-to-medium light situations it can be an absolute PITA to see the measurements on. Similar complaint for depth adjustment.

@jkeating3The DCS575 is the FlexVolt sidewinder, which is brushless, and apparently the identical motor to the new rear handle. @Hugh Jass if that were the case Milwaukee likely would have solved that mystery 3 years ago with the 2731 instead of making a competent sidewinder with less-than-corded torque and rpm. Dewalt's marketing department finally has something to get out of bed for so it's pretty unlikely they don't pursue "power of corded, freedom of cordless" with this rear handle saw.

I don't really expect "much" more powerful, I would expect a slight bump but I think form factor is the main thing to write home about.

Seeing as a 20v Max model would be weaker than the DCS575 and Makita rear handle, what fanfare would there be in releasing that? It's great for the guys who want one but there would be 0 bragging rights, and company marketing departments are all about that.

I'd say you're 100% correct @FrosBros82, they aren't known for their woodworking tools but every company starts somewhere. Maybe guys getting into tools 10 years from now will never know there was a time Red lacked in that department ??

It just wears more than comparable saws in my opinion. I dislike the detent plate most of all. The slide is nice and smooth though. I think it was a poor replacement for the 1013, and the new 1019 looks like a huge step in the right direction. My only complaints with my 790 is weight (to be expected) and average dust extraction. Adjustability, slide, and accuracy are top notch, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 10" FlexVolt if North America gets one, but for our shop I would definitely look at and recommend the 1019 over a rear-slide.

@FrosBros82 we have different experiences for sure; our work saw is a Makita 1016 and it's basically universally disliked by my coworkers and I lol. This new saw seems like an incredible improvement to me. I can assure you the 1016 is not meant to be treated with anything close to what would be considered abuse.
