Coverage from various tool reviewers at STAFDA covered Dewalt’s reveal of the new 60v Max FlexVolt cut-off machine. Model DCS690 Availability Spring 2018 Pricing TBD Blade size appears to be 9”, though the label says 12”, intended for diamond wheels or abrasive wheels. Concrete cutting, rebar, etc. come to mind for applications. As others mentioned in another thread, I’m not sure what sort of power these will have, I know I see a lot of gas beasts on site. My understanding is you can hook up water or dust extraction (scratch that, just water it looks like) to this? Hopefully someone else can chime in, I have no personal experience with cutoff machines.

It fits the 9.0, so yes. Sounds apparently as good as the toughsystem. Can wait.

Really like the adjustability / ergonomics on that thing. Seems like a great solution if you regularly need a mixer.

Well that explains the shorter depth of cut. That sounds like a heavy duty shoe!

I have that drill; I don’t use it often but it’s a lifesaver when I do. Way safer for big holes and can mix materials no problems without taxing it, or spending money on a dedicated mixer like the new Fuel model; I don’t mix stuff everyday so it’s better to have a more versatile tool.

Man, the USA gets such unreal deals lol, meanwhile our HDs up here mark something down 2 cents and call it a clearance 😭. We still have it better than our Euro and Aussie friends though I suppose pricewise. Plenty of IG videos with this beast hauling serious ass, the only thing that surprises me is the 2-7/16” cut depth. Figured they’d make sure you framing guys have the extra 1/8”, like corded/Makita.

They absolutely need a windbreaker or you aren’t heating anything. Battery placement isn’t ideal but walking/ working/ driving a pickup it isn’t a problem. A loader is likely a different story lol.

Beauty! Been wanting it, saw a pricing error the day it was listed on my side of the border (229 CAD which was switched to 299 the next day). I have other things higher priority at the moment but this is on the to do list as well. Looking forward to your thoughts.

Anyone who didn’t see this coming was probably blinded by all the lasers they’ve been putting out (ie, the only 12v stuff they’ve been putting out).

For a lot of tasks on a table saw I’d expect you can toss on a 7.25” blade; less deflection and they’re cheap as chips. I’ve got some Freud Industrial blades but generally stick with Diablo for ripping stuff down. Odd blade size is mitigated by the calendar saying 2017 and not 1987; blade selection online is ridiculous, prices are great, and there are a plethora of blades available from CMT, Freud, etc. That said, a 10” would have probably 10x the blade selection. 8-8.25 still has everything you could need in a wide variety of kerf, grind, tooth count, etc.

I’m with framer joe on this one; I have the 60v and it’s fantastic. Gobs of power, does everything I could ask of it. I’d like a 120v 10” but that would live at home and I’d take the 60 anywhere outside of my small home shop setup.

The half dozen guys with 40v Max gear will be so excited. (Yes, I realize there are actually more than six of them, there are probably dozens lol).

Because the storage team designed the tough system radio and apparently don’t talk to the cordless tool department. 10” was the plan for the 60v max, osha updated table saw regulations; a 10” saw needs a bigger table now. They could delay the product and make a bigger table or put out what they had designed with a smaller blade. My understanding is a 120v 10” hybrid based on the rolling stand model with 32” rip is in the pipe. I expected it to be announced last summer but was mistaken, as is often the case 😭

I'm employed by someone else, yes. I've also subbed out as a one man operation to save other companies money. I've also ran crews of over a dozen people, and know all about hiring, firing, and layoffs. My two points are 1) when it's time to sharpen the pencil and cut costs casting blame in the direction of cordless tools makes little sense, and 2) having employees isn't donating to charity; it's being successful enough to have too much work to do yourself, hence the world's smallest violin.

Buildings have been built for thousands of years. Do Joe's competitors have access to futuristic tools that Joe doesn't that allow them to undercut them? How are other companies making money? How do they manage to pay their employees? Maybe more people should stick to what works and buy into platforms based on proven results and existing product rather than loose promises and projecting their hopes into how those promises will be fulfilled. Meanwhile I'll play the world's smallest violin for you poor guys that have these horrible things called "employees". 🤔

The hyperbole in this thread is reaching levels that my rants do when I'm on a tangent. I find it hard to believe anyone is laying employees off or losing bids because Dewalt's FlexVolt line isn't diverse enough. Other cordless platforms exist and extension cords are still readily available. @glass it sounds like a discerning craftsman with high standards such as yourself probably owns or plans to own a TSC55, you know; the industry standard for cordless tracksaws 😝 leave the yellow knockoff for us plebs 😂.

Today I learned why whining and American exceptionalism are two sides of the same coin 😂. I do think FlexVolt is expanding at a snail's pace but I'd expect that to change in the next year. This year's Dewalt experience seemed like a big push to catch 20v Max up to M18 a bit.

Is there a lot of potential that is left unrealized at this point? Yes. Am I salty about buying 120v Max batteries? No, because that isn't the case. I'm happy with the mitre and hope to see a larger compressor, table saw, vacuum, etc. going forward.
