  1. Lol, one thing I'd say is the gritty matte finish, feels like medium grit sandpaper, will probably get dirtier and be a little difficult to keep clean in a grease filled environment. The drawers and pulls are more conventional semigloss powder coat which aren't a problem but everywhere you see red is the matte powdercoat. I love my box and I think structurally it'd be fine but just FYI.
  2. I'm glad they are going to be back in stock for more people to enjoy them. I love mine!
  3. I just wanted to say I wasn't singling out your comment about the $100 android phone because I thought you were a jerk, just the opposite in fact because you actually gave thought to factory conditions half way around the globe. It's just that it's a super complicated problem and to single out Apple might not be exactly fair when they do seem to be at least interested in the problem. I'm not saying they're perfect on the issue either. For full disclosure I do have iPhones, iPads and a Mac Pro, the little black paint can one with a Xeon hex core and dual 6GB GPU's, so I like Apple but I can see their products aren't for everyone. Macs today are way more consumer oriented but many tech people love MacBooks because they are so well made. My brother works for Google and he's all Mac and most Googlers I've met use MacBooks or MBP's. Most people don't even realize that Google and Apple used to be really tight and to this day Google still gets employee discounts on Mac's throught the Apple Store. I got a discount on my Mac Pro through my bro and saved enough money to get the blazing fast 1TB SSD in my mini tower included, I think it's 1.25GB/s fast - there are faster now but this was a year and half ago. Apple's touch screen tech is usually top notch. I think gaming is actually bigger on iOS than android currently and the new AppleTV might actually eat away at the console business for casual gaming. You'll never replace a dedicated console for high end graphics but the new SoC in the iPad Pro shows Apple is hell bent on making their chips dominant in GPU power and they've had an astonishing last few years the way they've increased the performance and still kept these mobile chips' power budget low. The Apple store is more lucrative for Devs to make money but I still think free apps outnumber paid ones and the Google store and Apple App Store both have like 1.5million + apps each so you could download apps constantly and delete them all day and night and still not even dent the library. What Apple products have going for them is even though they tend to be more expensive they do hold their resale value better than most so you end up selling them instead of throwing them away or locking them away in a drawer somewhere.
  4. I think that's a mistake many people make wrt Apple. They avoid the race to the bottom by only trying to capture the big market share of the premium segment of the market, which they do exceedingly well. Someone really interested in video to the point they know about and want to actually shoot in 4K will just buy the biggest storage option. Also keep in mind this is a tool forum so most people posting here have at least some technical proficiency and love of such things. Many people still buy smart phones and use them like dumb phones or install few apps if any. Edit to add how many peeps today care only about FB, Twitter and Instagram? Also to decry that Apple uses slave labor when they take more of a hands on approach over their suppliers than most companies and then brag about buying a $100 phone is a little off base. That $100 phone is cheap because they probably had horrendous conditions for the workers to shave enough cost off to get it to you for that price. Also this is a tool forum where 95% of our favorite toys come from China The way I look at it as long as manufacturing is prominent in China and people take an interest things will improve but the government there has to be part of the solution and not part of the problem.
  5. That would make sense. They take up tons of space so they wouldn't want too many on hand just for logistics reasons.
  6. One thing I love my pliers wrench for is for straightening out dented putty knifes or painters tools etc. I hate when my favorite one hits a screw or nail or something and dents the blade. The Knipex pliers wrench acts like a mini metal brake and after a little metal bending all but the worst dents can be smoothed out pretty well!
  7. Wow this is totally skookum, I sure hopes he can get those drills choochin' again for a nice giveaway...
  8. http://youtu.be/_zE7gPNd_PI I laughed when seeing their review of the Skybell the day I put up the Ring doorbell. I have to say I really like the Ring so far but it's only been a day: https://ring.com The Ring costs $200 as well but seems to have more features. Unlike the Skybell the Ring contains a battery so you don't need a wired doorbell to replace, if you do have an old wired bell it's even better because it will trickle charge the Ring. This was great for me because I installed a new front door and pulled a new wire but haven't got around to hooking up a new transformer yet so it still works until I do. They claim the battery will go a year before you have to unbolt it to bring it in for a recharge, we'll see. Also the Ring allows all door bell pushes to have the video stored online as well as video from the motion detector being triggered, even if no button is pushed, so you can see anytime someone approaches your door. The motion detector has zones that can be disabled as well as range settings from 5 to 30 ft. They do charge $3/mo or $30/year to use their cloud services to store video but it's totally optional and a nice option to have IMHO. If you forego their cloud service you just use it as a live video device but can't go back and look at videos. They give you a 30 day free trial when you first create an account. Also Ring offers a Chime, $30, which is a wifi doorbell chime that plugs into any outlet so you can have an actual bell ring in the house too and not depend on the Android or iOS app alone. So far so good.
  9. Boo, I kinda need a miter soonish and I'm not sure I can wait not knowing one way or another for certain when and what Milwaukee will be releasing a new saw. I might have to just buy a dewalt, they do make nice saws, but it would have been nicer buying an M18 saw with an excuse to get a 9 Ah battery to go with it
  10. I was just looking at mine which has had a couple k of nails through it and it still seems to be pretty clean but still retains a nice coating of oil. Maybe some come from the factory better lubed than others?
  11. They look identical to the Ryobi's save for different styling.I think the marketing guys got too aggressive with the photos trying to make them look big and powerful in the forefront of the image. Probably a bad choice for a tool that's a little porky. They should have got guys that were 6'11" 340lbs to make the tool look smaller
  12. I mentioned the Rigid. It looks like a brushless version of the Ryobi. The nail transport mechanism looks identical except for the clear cover and bigger release handles.
  13. Why do I have a feeling one day comp56 is going to put photos up of his car and it's going to looks like this:
  14. Man that sucks. I use Dewalt and porter cable nails and no issues. I don't know if I'd use white lithium grease. I would just bring it back and see if the next one is better. The Real Tool dude has a video where he goes over maintenance of nailers and recommends using a Paslode cleaning and lube kit. He also mentions about using high quality nails. It's a good all around video for nailers in general. I'm probably gonna get the Paslode kit but I haven't had any issues with my nailer and don't want to jinx it lol. Removed real tool YouTube video link out of respect for Dan and Eric...
  15. You missed it but a few months ago all the HD's by me had clearances on nails. I got all different sizes for the heck of it, I think some were like a few bucks for 5k packs. Some of the smaller sizes I wasn't sure I'd ever use came in handy with some of the more delicate trim work and neck moldings I'm doing on doors and windows.
  16. Lol, those fans are a good deal. I like them way better than the Milwaukee ones. Being able to plug it in the and extension cord is so convenient too for extended use and not wasting batteries.
  17. Yeah people never factor the drag the hose has on the tool and with the annoyance of tripping over hoses and getting them snagged etc. Also like I mentioned above for occasional small jobs you'd be still getting your hose and compressor sorted out while the airstrike might already be finished with the job and the battery already back on the charger.Plus now you can buy some great inexpensive Ryobi accessories to go with the batteries. Seriously, for the price of the Rigid brad nailer kit you could get the airstrike, charger, some batteries, a fan and led floodlight.
  18. Those are the 2.5Ah batteries? The Airstrike isn't a particularly battery killing tool. It really is just a tiny air compressed piston so the battery is only used a split second each time. The 4.0 batteries will probably give you around 1k nails per charge but the smaller 2.5 batteries probably still will give you over 600 and shaves off some bulk and weight from a tool that's only real downside is its a little porky.
  19. Enjoy your new purchase. Money goes a long way with Ryobi. The Rigid brad nailer kit with battery is like $330 and $230 for the bare gun. The worst case scenario if you're not satisfied you can always return it but the vast majority of reviews I've seen reflect my own experience in that it's fantastic tool at a great price.
  20. I'd say it's more than powerful enough and very very consistent. I've probably used 2" brads more than anything into mostly 3/4" finger joined pine trim and it sinks each and every shot the same. I'm putting the trim over both modern drywall and hard 100 year old plaster. I've even used it on some oak thresholds over old wood flooring and perimeter finishing of brand new hardwood and no problem. It's got a nice thwack sound every time. I love the brad and look for things to nail with it lol. The only real downside is that it's a little bulkier and heavier than an equivalent air nailer but no compressor along with no noise and annoying hose makes it totally worth it. That and unlike a compressor tool where you might procrastinate pulling it out you just pick it up for a quick job without even thinking about it. I think every manufacturer has a small number of tools that they hit it out of the park and the airstrike is Ryobi's grand slam..
  21. Lol, in case people don't know I'm just imitating the classic joke from Mr. Mom:http://youtu.be/iX3kxAA2L4Q
  22. I can only speak to my own experience but I've had Ryobi in the past and have moved on to Milwaukee in most areas but I like the Ryobi Brad enough that even if Milwaukee comes out with nailers I still might stick to Ryobi's anyway and save some money. Look at the Rigid nailer, it's basically a brushless version of the Ryobi one for nearly double the money. Even being brushed the Ryobi can put out almost 1k nails through it on one 4.0 battery. That all being said I do wonder if people have trouble because they use cheap nails with cheap glue gumming them up. All I know is mine's been totally reliable and the only time I've opened the front breach, or whatever you call the lever release to clear jams, was when I first got it to play with it. Who knows maybe there was a bad batch or some people just got some lemons but you can also spend a ton more money on a different one and still get a lemon. It probably wouldn't hurt to lube the firing pin occasionally but I've not even done that myself to be honest.
  23. Looks great! It also looks very similar to what I'm doing over my doors and windows to imitate the originals in my old Victorian. The only difference is I'm using an abacus on the top.
  24. I use single, double or triple bevel for crown.. Whatever it takes I've never had trouble with angles, maybe reproducing the dozens of Victorian door casings in my old house with crown and neck moldings has made me punchy lol
