  1. I think people overstate the loss of R&D from the hardware to the software division. Unlike the hardware where each tool is developed independently for the most part the One Key software is probably being developed as a unit with plugins for each tool. Software is infinitely more scalable than hardware. Each piece of hardware is developed by itself, along with close analogs, while their software platform can be used on any tool they want with certain mods.
  2. Yeah it sucks in this PC world we may see that kind of marketing disappear though. When it does disappear who would give Miss Makita her skimpy outfits to wear and a nice tool to hold? Don't answer that...
  3. It's funny though how Milwaukee has tools outside the U.S. that they don't sell here being a major American brand. The m18 miter saw for example. I figure they have a bigger better fuel one waiting in the wings for the U.S. but still they could have been selling it here for a while now. Outside of tool guys no one knows Metabo here. Bosch is known because they make all sorts of things. Milwaukee has an advantage entering any market though because they have one of the largest 18v ranges of tools and the largest 12v range. Together they cover so many tool nooks you can't ignore them.
  4. FYI, I think the mobile version of the forum doesn't show sigs. I always force desktop browser view and don't use tapatalk or whatever it's called.-I don't what that app shows or doesn't show.
  5. How DARE you call Miss Makita a marketing ploy!! I take umbrage at that, major umbrage. I'm not even a Makita guy and I feel the need to defend Miss Makita and all those photos they make her take in skimpy outfits holding nice tools. That takes work man. Again how DARE YOU! I need to study this further and look at more photos just to be sure...
  6. You don't have to buy them with One Key built in. It's going to be an option for now at least on most of their fuel line. Good luck in the future though. You think in 10 years from now there isn't going to be extra electronics in every power tool from Ryobi to Hilti?
  7. The AVE dude looks like he set up a torque tester. He did put an older Milwaukee drill on to disprove the marketing specs on torque but it looks like it exceeded the spec sheet. I think in general for cut and dry numbers that can actually be easily benched most companies won't lie because some countries like Germany fine manufacturers if they fall short of their written claims.
  8. I hear you but don't take what I'm saying as bashing Makita in any way. I'm just saying that you can't really say you don't trust Milwaukee marketing on the one hand and then blindly trust random internet videos on the other without knowing more about them. Both are dicey at best for accuracy. Makita makes great tools. I do think they are a little stubborn though, the whole not invented here syndrome kinda thing where they refuse to put battery indicators on their batteries for the longest time as an example when they could have obviously done this year and years ago. The same goes with their lackluster marketing. Like their tools speak for themselves which is fine, they are good tools, but in this age of media you have to toot your own horn wether you like it or not.
  9. They had the same blades on them? Not to argue, you are entitled to your own opinion, but you're arguing with a guy who did side by side tests with identical blades. The only real way to get an idea is to put the same blades on em. I've never seen any horsepower or other stats from Milwaukee, so not sure what numbers they are inflating according to you, but their cuts per charge quotes are usually repeatable and often surpassed in testing. Still it's the marketing dept. which always sugarcoats things for every maker. Makita is an oddball though, they don't seem to have a marketing dept. at all lol. It might be a good thing but if you aren't pushing your product someone else is gonna push theirs.
  10. Yeah competition is great - they try to leapfrog each other and it's a win win for the consumer. I have the current fuel drill and with the side handle it can still fight you with a big hole saw and it's got significantly less torque than the new one and Makita. I'd hate to use a hole saw up on a ladder with these new ones...
  11. Yeah you guys do great reviews, that wasn't aimed at you. I assumed you normalized the test with identical blades. I'm just saying anyone can have an old saw with an old blade sitting in it lying around and put it up against a brand new one and feel the new one is more powerful when you can turn a hero of a saw into a dud with a crappy worn out blade.
  12. The new Fuel Super Hole Hawg has a clutch built in to prevent it kicking on you, I wonder if they have some kind of electronic version of it in the new fuel drill? It could be they just expect a Milwaukee user to be a big manly man and the Makita needs a long handle for the girly men who use them? jk
  13. They are two of the best cordless circ. saws on the market no doubt. They even look a little alike with the rafter hooks but I don't think anyone is gonna complain having to use either.
  14. Funny with that video how some markets get the vac port on the saw. I guess they have stricter dust regs. Testing things is so subjective but any time I get a new saw I throw a Diablo on it to replace the OEM blade. My ancient Ryobi 5-3/8 saw was renewed like a new tool twice, once adding Lithium batteries and the second time throwing a thin kerf Diablo on it.
  15. Milwaukee has had a brushless 6.5" circular saw for a long time now. And they already make one that tops the Makita 6.5" with the 7.25" full sized fuel. Makita makes that dual battery one but the fuel with the 9Ah battery will probably last two days. The 6.5"s are great but the extra money you spend going a little bigger on the 7.25's is worth it because the blades are so much more plentiful and cheaper not to mention the bigger cutting capacity. That being said you can't really go wrong with most of these major tool brands these days. Makita, Milwaukee, Dewalt, Bosch, Metabo, Rigid, Hilti, Metabo, Ryobi and more each make tools I'd use, I have things from most of them as it is, even though I tend to like Milwaukee. I think the lowest models in all those brands are better than top of the line stuff only a few years ago. I think we are living in the golden age of power tools, there is so much variety in decent quality all over the price scale. I guess when the next advance over lithium ion batteries comes out, carbon nanotube batteries I'm looking at you, we will keep seeing a slow evolution in power and runtime. It's kinda crazy we'll be running 9Ah battleries in powertools so soon...
  16. I can't tell from the photos but I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess you're a DeWalt fan?
  17. I think if they were going to get into nailers they'd start with 18g brad & 16g finish nailers first. Pin nailers are more specialty and Milwaukee seems to pick and choose what woodworking tools they bring to market.
  18. Lol, you took that or found the photo? All they need to add is condoms and a bachelor can one stop shop
  19. Ouch 12k. That sucks but what can you do. Maybe if it gets fixed offer that customer to do the job for a discount to build some good will and maybe he'll understand even good equipment goes down. There isn't much you can do when big stuff fails. Good luck.
  20. I wonder how that company is doing. Like I said above the concept is decent, although having the trigger handle integrated with the battery is a flaw which limits the form factor of any tools attached hence the oscillating tool needing to be a separate thing entirely. That was also funny how the Dragons looked at the oscillating tool like it was magic. That one tool did look like higher quality than the Power8 thing but I'm afraid if you're trying to build a tool line in this mature market you need some kind of decent quality to start considering even the bargain brands these days like Ryobi put out stuff that even pros can abuse for really good prices.
  21. Nice, looking good. I'm a charcoal purist and have a Weber Performer too.
  22. Glad to hear your son is better. I hope the sign puts some smiles on your faces!
  23. It's funny but most addictions require a fix whereas a tool addiction let you fix other things
  24. I agree the concept is actually interesting, kinda like that Ryobi box they had years ago with a bunch of tools in it. The conversion of the circular saw and drill into table saw and drill press respectively is actually a great idea, I've always wondered why they didn't make things modular like that. That being said it looks really low on quality and not exactly that cheap either, $600 can get you pretty nice combo kit from Dewalt, Rigid or Milwaukee. I think the video is funny and awkward, like it was put together and performed by people who don't actually use tools regularly. I particularly liked near the end where the guy is using the table saw top while nailing two pieces of wood together and the flimsy table is bouncing around, I don't see too many DIYers or contractors using their table saw tops to pound nails into pieces of wood
  25. Hey already 5 patrons and $32/mo, not bad for the first day. Worst case we can keep Dan in diet cokes and chicken fries a couple times a week
